    Sailor Moon was my introduction. My favorites are-

    Ok, so I've never "gotten" the appeal of anime. I'm not really a fan of cartoons in general, so maybe that's part of it. But this seems like a good place to ask- what is it about anime that you like so much? What appeals to you? What am I missing?
    I think the appeal is there's something for everyone. Like romances? Marmalade Boy is a good start. Action? Dragon Ball Z or Naruto are very popular in that genre. Psychological thrillers? Death Note and Monster. Swords and sorcery? Magic Knight Rayearth and Record of Lodoss War. Comedy? Azumanga Daioh is one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

    The appeal is that the fact that it's animated allows for a lot of things that are difficult to do with live action shows, but they aren't relegated to children's shows or fart jokes for adults like most animation is here in America.

    Ghost in the Shell was my introduction to anime. Then, I came across Shakugan no Shana a couple of years ago in the process of Google-searching my daughter's name (Shana). And then, my kids got me hooked on Bleach and Full Metal Alchemist. They have tried me on other animes, but I can't say that I have liked any others as much as the previoulsy mentioned. Soul Eater has grown on me, but still not as crazy about it as the others.

    God bless Toonami's early days for introducing me to Sailor Moon. That's really where it all started.

    Then Dragon Ball Z. Inu Yasha, Tenchi, Gundam Wing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Outlaw Star, Blue Submarine #6, Vampire Hunter D, Hellsing, Azu Manga Daioh. I've seen a few I didn't care for (Full Metal Alchemist, most notably... sorry guys), and there's probably a few I'm neglecting to mention.

    Cowboy Bebop is probably my favorite. I say probably... but it's more like "obviously."

    my first serious anime was (and im sure i'll spell this wrong) Urotsukidoji: legend of the overfiend.

    i was in awe. the violence, the sex! using 2 VCRs i recorded the whole series for myself, and even made a box for it lol.

    i dont really watch anything now, but i'll never forget that damn overfiend....

    Now all of my faves are the anime porn. :blushing: OMG some of that stuff is just hilarious!

    Hahahaha. I will never forget watching the first episode of Queen's Blade with my wife. I got this recommendation from a friend (who we both now consider to be a perverted, sick sick human being). Just wow.

    That was awesome stuff!!! Then again, I like some pretty disturbing things....

    Ranma 1/2 was the first anime I "loved" and completed.. Now I've seen pretty much every popular series up until 6-12 months ago, haven't really watched anything since. ;[

    My introduction to Anime was Neo Tokyo, a series of 3 anime shorts that I would highly recommend to everyone. :smile:

    The one I love that just got destroyed by the live-action version:

    First ever intro to anime: Doraemon, the 1979 series. My mom introduced me to that paired with the several volumes of Chinese-translated manga she had of it.

    As for what got me into it, I guess most of the usual mahou shoujo stuff like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura. I still watch anime often, but more for the sakuga nowadays.

    edit: Forgot about my faves. Mushishi, Dennou Coil, Honey & Clover, Mononoke (not the Ghibli movie), Tokyo Godfathers.

    Death Note was my first anime series.. i was introduced to it by a boyfriend i was dating at the time. After that relationship ended i started talking with another guy who got me into more series (that guy is now my husband).

    My first exposure to anime as a kid were the shows Robotech (a bastardized US redub of Macross with footage from other shows spliced in to make the story progressively darker), and Saber Rider & the Star Sheriffs. My favorites are Macross, Arcadia of My Youth, Windaria, Record of Lodoss War, and Cowboy Bebop.
