Since late July:
All soft drinks, including soda, tea, and slushies (yummm on the slushies. I drank soda and tea everyday since I was a teenager. SMH. And, I'm from the South, so I put tonnnns of sugar in my tea. My poor body)
Fast food (except maybe two times, but it's still been over a month since the last time). I used to eat fast food for breakfast/lunch/dinner everyday for at least the past seven years.
Since mid-August:
Just drinking plain water

Absolutely nothing.
Edit to add, there are things I don't eat because I don't see the point of them, but I didn't eat them when I was fat(ter) either. Soft drinks, fake sugar, fake-low-fat anything, anything fried in poly unsaturated oil.
Anything else, I eat, just in moderation.0 -
Good job on stopping on the soda, tea and slushies. I had to give up pepsi, I love it but you cant be drinking it if ya wanna lose weight. Also I have started drinking tons of water, well its tons for me considering I never used to drink water. I drink at least 3 20oz bottles of water a day.0

Same here0 -
I was never a soda drinker, but to be honest I haven't given up anything...just the amounts I was eating of all those things. I still have everything I love but in moderation.????0

Alcohol~0

I haven't really given much of anything up 100% , just make a LOT of substitutions mostly. What I have given up close to 100% is doughnuts and other fried pastries and fast food. I don't think I've set foot in a fast food place for nearly a year now, but I have had the occasional chicken salad from charley's, but I don't really consider that fast food. Oh....and mocha frappes. I used to drink those all of the time!0

Nothing! I just have less of stuff. I'm trying not to consider it a diet, as I hope to stick with it for life, so cutting something out completely just wasn't the way to go for me. I still eat fast food, ice cream, just less often and less at a time.
I was never a big pop drinker, usually only have 2-3 a week, so didn't feel the need to change that. I don't keep pop in my house usually just have it when I"m out.
I will say I don't buy big containers of ice cream anymore. When I do get in the mood, I only buy a small container, or go out to buy a cone, so I'm not tempted to eat a half gallon by myself (and yes I had done that in the past)
eta: I was never a big drinker, that is one thing I can see giving up if it were a calorie problem. I think in the last year I've had maybe 10 glasses of wine.0 -
i havent given up any food or drink... i have just given up the habit of being so lazy!0
-
I've given up overeating and being lazy. I eat healthier but I still eat things I use to, just in moderation. :drinker:0

Nothing really, what has changed is portion sizes and how often I eat certain things.0
-
Alcohol
Cakes and other desserts... I have fruits if I want something sweet... Sometimes chocolate.
Bread.
Pasta.
Rice.0 -
I gave up SUGAR & BUTTER & bread & potatoes. I also don't drink much fruit juice now either. I eat lots of raw fruit. I try to eat protein at every meal & snacks.0

Why tea? Tea is super healthy...
I can't even think of giving up on tea... It's my addiction.0 -
Oh yeah.... I also gave up second helpings, large portions & alcohol consumption.0
-
I gave up the habit of sitting on the couch so much but that's about it. I never had to cut anything out I just ate less of some stuff.0

Because if I had a 16-oz cup, I would guess that I poured at least a quarter of a cup of sugar in it. Ohh, man. That sounds so good right now. Didn't eat much sugar, except in drinks. Didn't use butter. Bread and potatoes. Wow. Couldn't do that. LOL0 -

Oh I see... Have you tried developing that habit of drinking it plain? Or having honey instead?
I add sugar to my tea only when it's with lemon. I usually make a teapot of hot tea and add a whole sliced lemon to it, then I can add 2 teaspoons of sugar. Or 1 teaspoon of honey.
Or I do Moroccan tea - a teapot of dark tea with lots of fresh mint, and some sugar.0 -
I don't completely cut out anything - for me its just a case of controlling my binges, as it is those that are detrimental to my progress not any one particular type of food0
-
I haven't given it up, but I've cut down a lot on cheese - just because you can eat so much more filling stuff for the same calories. Just small amounts of the most delicious stuff instead of a mountain of it!0
-
For my life change I gave up meat, sugar and laziness0
-
I don't drink alcohol nearly as much as I used to. And when I do I usually have like a rum & diet coke or shots of liquor...or light beer. No more LI iced tea or margaritas for me
I also don't eat wings and nachos as much (only in moderation)0 -
I've given up giving up on anything.
I have totally relaxed into being me.
If I want it, I have it.
I trust myself not to have too much of it if I wish to continue to make fat loss progress.
And if I waver, that's OK too, I'm good.0 -
I haven't really given up things entirely, but I've made a lot of trades and some adjustments:
- water for nearly any other caloric beverage
- natural sugars versus sugary desserts (i.e. more fruit, less sugary pastries, etc)
- cut way back on red meat (personal preference)
- way more plant-based diet
- whole wheat, quinoa, bulgur for processed grains
I still eat foods that are less nutritionally good for you occasionally, but after my body adjusted to eating better foods, the junk foods just made me feel sick, so I naturally stayed away from them.0 -
I cut out processed, sugary foods & drinks almost completely. And I'd say that I've given up fast food, but I never really ate a lot of that, anyway.0
-
Shop-bought cakes and pastries. They never tasted as good as they looked, and I look at in terms of my calorie budget. (I'm an accountant, so that probably explains it...) Why eat something that's high in calories and doesn't taste so good when there's plenty of alternatives?
Homemade cakes, on the other hand? Bring them on!
Oh, and I've also tried to give up the habit of low-fat diet alternatives. Again, they don't taste as good as the real thing, as still packed with calories from the sugar and consequently don't fill me up as much as something with a little more fat. It's hard though - I dieted through the late eighties and nineties, when low-fat and fat-free was the only way to diet.0 -
As a lot of people have said, I don't believe in totally giving things up. But I have cut way, way back on alcohol, chocolate, baked goods, and fried foods. Oh, and I quit putting mayonnaise on my sandwiches -- much as I love it, it's not 100 calories yummier than mustard.
I'm also eating out less often, both to save money and to avoid temptation.
I had a pretty decent base diet before I started trying to lose weight -- I'd been more or less maintaining for years. So mostly I'm just giving up the "extra" stuff I already knew wasn't good for me, like that afternoon trip to the vending machine for a bag of Doritos. Turns out I don't really miss any of it as much as I thought I would.0 -
I haven't necessarily given up anything, but I've scaled back and learned portion sizes, especially for things like pasta and rice that I LOVE. I stick very rigidly to those portion sizes and I still manage to be satisfied.
I was lucky in the regard that my parents didn't let us drink soda, so the only things I drink anyway are water and coffee. Probably too much coffee recently, but it's not a major concern. Overall, I use healthier/lower fat items instead of full fat/calorie - fat free half and half in my coffee, egg whites instead of whole eggs for the most part, and I've made my own turkey burgers a few times. And Skinny Cow ice cream!
The biggest thing I've given up is the convenience - I have almost nothing in my house that I can just pop into the microwave and go for a quick meal. Nothing in my freezer besides chicken and frozen vegetables. I have a couple of cans of soup, but I'm pretty sure that's it. But I love cooking, so it generally doesn't bother me. Every so often I'm exhausted and don't want to spend time cooking, so I will make a piece of cheese toast (100 cal total) and see if I have more energy in 20 minutes after eating.0 -
I give things up for 30 days or so- but then I add them back in as I see fit. I have found while I can ABSOLUTELY live on minimal pasta/bread and other things that while I CAN go without- I am not happy without them. (I just don't eat it unless we are out to dinner and the bread is amazaballs) and I never eat pasta any more (only because I dont' want to - not because it's "my diet")... so I do it for the challenge- then add things back in as a see fit.
So I'm fairly low on actual processed breads- but I drink beer- and indulge for dinner on bread- I do not go without my ice cream. HELL NO.
So I rarely truly give up something- I give it up for self discipline purposes- or to see if it's affecting my system- but I never give it up for forever.0 -
nothing!0
