Is curvy the same thing as fat?

My measurements are 34-25-38 and people call me curvy. And since curvy is just a nicer synonym for fat, did they really mean I was fat? I'm so confused with the difference between curvy vs. fat. What do you classify as "curvy"?

    Different people define it differently.

    1.
    having many curves.
    "a curvy stretch of road"
    informal
(esp. of a woman's figure) shapely and voluptuous.

When men use the word, its meant positively (correctly, bcuz they wouldnt call a fat woman just curvy), when women use it they just mean fat (they are trying to be nice). My experience :)

I don't think curvy and fat are the same thing...

    Fat is fat.

ETA - Slim women can be curvy too!
I hate the "real women have curves" excuse for being fat. However, if someone needs this to make themselves feel better...so be it.

I think when people are calling somebody else curvy then no it does not mean overweight at all, usually more in line with sexy, when I see somebody call themselves curvy then a lot of times it is the same thing.

I think curvy means a very defined waist. Curvy girls can be thin or chubby or anywhere in between, but being round does not make one curvy.

    I am fat.

    I have curves.

I have more curves than what I want and what I personally find attractive.

I want to be considered curvy. This is what I am striving for. Less pudge, less curves in the "wrong" places.

I have seen women who were slim that I'd consider curvy, I've seen women who were considered not slim that are curvy.

Healthy is what is attractive, and that covers a lot of "shapes"

To me, curvy is far from fat, and most def a positive.

No, curvy is bone structure and where body fat is predominantly stored. I have seen fat girls who had no curves.

No, curvy is not fat. Curvy usually means having more of an hourglass and/or pear type shape. Thin and no so thin women can be curvy.

An hourglass figure has waist measurement of about 9-12ish inches smaller (or 75%) then the bust & hip measurements and the bust & hip measurements are in balance. Pear is similar, but the hip measurement is larger.

    This^^^

But personally, I don't think curvy is the same thing as fat. However, I've been called thick and that one SUCKS. I wanted to punch that guy. He made me cry! I was smaller then than I am now, come to think of it...

It's been my experience anything a man labels a woman it is the wrong label so I just go with whatever she says she is. Even then I try to avoid using the label since usually when I've repeated the exact label she gave herself it's somehow wrong.
  • Sophia Vergara is curvy.

Curvy is a shape. Many "thin" woman are considered curvy. And if someone calls you curvy, you must know that it is a compliment. Women are supposed to have curves.

Nigella is curvy, Gillian McKeith isn't.
  • Truth of the matter is, women of all sizes can have curves.

It's a term that's been coopted by heavier women. I consider myself to have a curvy body shape (hourglass). I am curvy whether I'm fat or super skinny because of my bone structure.
  • <<<<I am curvy, but not that fat...depends on the day you ask me...haha. You can be curvy at any body weight honestly.

    No. Not the same.

The supposed "ideal" waist to hip ratio is 0.7, and that's exactly where yours is. So take your curviness as a compliment. :-)

Problem is, a lot of fat women say they are "curvy". Sorry, rolls aren't curves.
