Body Fat percentage higher than I thought!? :-(

Hi, I started losing weight from the 1st Jan this year and was 249lbs and 38% bf, as of this morning I was 210lbs and 26%bf which is great.

From that I have worked out if I keep the same lean mass (which I seems to have done throughout) and drop another 2 stone, I'll be 184lbs and around 16%bf. I've trained for a 10K and done Stronglifts throughout the year so I'm 70/30 cardio to weight training split.

I'm using a tanita body fat monitor which is around 10 years old and although it may not be entirely accurate, it does show progression.

My mum bought a new fat monitor a few of weeks ago and I tried it today, to my horror, I was 32%bf! This reading was taken within a few minutes of my own monitor reading and I had not had and breakfast or water between readings.

This has just knocked me back a bit as I thought I was further along than maybe I am. I just wonder which one is the accurate one?

My stats are:

height: 5'11.5"
weight: 210lbs
neck: 16"
waist: 43"
hips: 41"

If the newer fat monitor is more accurate, so be it, but I just like to know where I am. Any help appreciated :-)

The electrical inducance meters are notoriously innacurate. You're going to get better results with a tape measure or, better yet, a skin fold caliper.

Do yourself a favor and through the body fat % device away.

Congrats on your fatloss. Keep up the good work. If you want to get an accurate base line go get yourself tested at a BodPod place. Google it. This will give you an accurate baseline.

Most people vastly underestimate what their body fat % is.

Thanks for the advice guys, think I'll just keep on trucking and try to hit my goal weight and let bf% take care of itself.
