Alcohol Conundrum

Beer. Margaritas. Vodka and Diet Cherry 7up (personal fave). Really you can drink any of it as long as you fit it into your calorie goals. Also, one night of drinking isn't going to ruin everything even if you go over on your calories. Just enjoy yourself and get back to it the next day.

Vodka/club w/ a twist of lime ... simple, no hangover (club soda keeps you hydrated) ... That, or I do red wine ... but most bars have a crappy wine selection so I stick with the vodka/club ...0

this is pretty much my stand by when going out too. at home it's nearly always wine though0 -

Straight vodka, like a boss. JK, vodka with soda water and a handful of cut up limes, oranges, lemons (some places even have grapefruit). If we're really being really real, sugar free redbull and vodka can make you see colors. Of course, the red bull is flecking awful for you, but we said we were being real.:drinker:0

Indeed, BUT you have to be super careful about which *kind* and how much champagne you drink. Regular serving size of champagne is 4 oz. where a regular serving size of wine is 5.
If you can get it in a proper champagne flute and stick with a Brut or a Brut mix you should be fine, but I find a lot of places may not be properly stocked. They either don't have proper champagne flutes and/or serve you in a wine glass (tacky!), they are a strictly moscato or a higher sugar content sparkling wine (no champagne ), or they serve you the mini bottles which, I mean, who's going to throw that away?!
Unless I know for sure that I will get a brut champagne or a similarly dry champagne (and not wine) in a champagne flute - I just stay away.
regardless of the serving size the over all calories are still the same for champagne vs regular wine. a half a bottle is about 250 calories which is about 12.5 ounces.0 -
Thanks for all the help!
For everyone getting offended about the "we all" statement-
I think it's really rude of you to feel the need to point out that I made this "assumption." This is suppose to be a positive and encouraging website.
Instead of being helpful or not saying anything you decided that it was more important to try and make me feel negative about typing 5 letters on a keyboard.
agree0 -
I usually just hit the gym earlier in the day to create some extra calories to use for delicious beer.
When I used to party, this is what I would do. Hit the gym super hard and then waste all my hard earned work on alcohol.
*Sigh* good times...0 -
You're not being serious, right? Oh wait, me think's he is, being the question asked. My bad
Seriously though, it's not hard to have a non-alcoholic beverage. I'm just anti-drinking, don't associate with those that do.0 -

Don't let her comments bother you. I'm sure that a lot of her 10,000 posts are unsupportive and mean spirited as this one was. There are more than a few people here that don't give any type of positive feedback ever.
Not sure who you're talking about but (a) I don't see anyone with 10,000 posts and (b) everyone on this page is trying to be helpful (and those you single out are often helpful in previous posts, too!). I posted similar threads in the past asking about alcohol consumption, & I totally missed what the majority of people were saying - that it's fine to drink if you fit it into your cals & your goals, that you can choose lower-calorie options, and that a couple drinks a week won't kill your diet.
However, what I found myself thinking after reading the responses to these threads was "oh cool! all these people are skinny and they drink - I must be able to do it and lose weight too!" What I failed to notice was that the majority of people (and the vast majority in this thread) are relegating their alcohol to one or two days a week, and offsetting it with less calories and extra cardio.
So yes, I DO appreciate the perspective that not all of us drink (even though I do). In fact, MOST of the best-looking, in-best-shape people I know have either cut the booze out entirely & have significantly scaled back.
I'm off my soapbox, but I get annoyed (1) when people get easily offended and (2) when people miss the forest for the trees.
People may be trying to help - just because you didn't get the answer you wanted doesn't make their point invalid.
Rml_16 is the person with 10,941 posts that's my help for the day
Probably stick with a spirit & lots of water in between. I had a big (unintentional) night out a few weeks ago & I'm still 400gms heavier a few weeks down the track. Messed me up big time. So for me, I'm trying to steer clear of alcohol. Enjoy your night out :drinker:0 -
To the OP don't listen to the killjoy's if you want a drink have a drink, if you want 5 drinks have 5 drinks, and drink what you want, don't substitute your favourite bevvy for a vodka and slimline tonic, enjoy life otherwise what is the point, I eat well and exercise Monday to friday the weekend i do what i want, people can be very anal on here0

What a silly point of view, your loss though0 -
Lets be real we all like to unwind a bit with an alcoholic beverage now and again. How do I unwind without undoing all the working out and dieting?
When going out with the girls for happy hour what can I drink?
This is a quick read, and alcohol is included in it, and how your body deals with it.

Personally, I like Guinness or Gin and Tonic.0

find other ways to unwind or deal with the effects it has on your body and suppressing your metabolism
Yah no...
I like a mixed drink I found in our liqour store...black fly long island ice tea...100 calories each.
After about 4 of those I am up dancing...oh dare I say exercising...
The only conundrum for "most" of us when it comes to alcohol is should I have one or two...or three or four...
If it fits in I say 4.
ETA: another one I found is flavoried vodka and club soda...if no flavored vodka add liquid crystal light or some other flavor to it.0 -
This seems like a good post to throw out my new common saying, "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???"
:drinker: Enjoy some Crystal Light lemonade and a little blueberry vodka. Happy cocktail hour!:happy:0 -
Empty calories
But oh... so much more fun than a carrot.
OMG choked on my soup at that one.......0 -
My only advice is to avoid tonic water. That stuff has 125 calores per can, even though it doesn't seem much different than plain ol' soda water.0

But then what do I mx with my gin?
Seriously, though, I used to think I didn't drink soft drinks, but recently realized that tonic is one.0 -
I've really enjoyed every body's posts! Even the negative ones that people are commenting back to. I don't feel so alone in the alcohol consumption problem and found some humor!0

Who is "we all", some of us can unwind in other ways
^^ this ^^0 -
For me it wasn't the alcohol, it was what I wanted to eat after the alcohol. And if I overdid it, what I wanted to eat the next day, and so on. I personally have much better results if I lay off. But if you have more self control than I do, then any lower calorie drink is not really "bad", just like many have said on here you must work it in to your day.,0

^^ not those ^^
In my experience getting wankered on booze has no parallel for unwindyability.
Maybe I should try meditation or some such metaphysical shyte.
Or not, dunno, but red wine really hits my buttons.
And I look awesome with it.
Damn I'm good.0 -
Vodka & soda water, with a squeeze of fresh lime
Problem is I love a beer and coming from the West Country (UK) then there is no choice but to love a cider Alcohol is definitely my downfall...
And the assumption of "we all"... if you were looking to the UK, then you'd probably be mostly right, we're a right load of bingers over here (ruffling a few British feathers)0 -
One alcoholic drink is pretty much equal to another in terms of calories. It's the mixers you need to watch out for, and how much you have of the booze.
If you can portion control the way you will with food, just enjoy it.0 -
And I, too, am exceptionally good-looking. Never did me any 'arm etc etc0

For me the problem is also the late night snacks and the delicious delicious food you just cannot help but consume whilst drunk... and then of course the delicious greasy breakfast the next day :P
For me I did cut down on alcohol, and it helped with weight loss, but the reason I cut down wasn't to lose weight. It was because I knew I felt a lot better the next day if I didn't drink. That being said, by "cutting down", what I mean is that I drink on weekends now, rarely during the week - unless I'm home alone like right now! (she says, with a wine glass next to the lap top!)
I'm a wine drinker primarily, but I also love beer. I factor it in to my day usually, but if I don't, well, no harm. I didn't put on weight from one night of drinking too much here and there, and as long as you aren't over doing it, it won't be an issue.
You know what else is awesome? Hopping on the scales the morning after a lot of drinks, and finding you've somehow miraculously lost a kilogram and a half despite the almost 2 bottles of wine you drank last night and the pizza you shared with friends and the cheese sandwich you ate before bed :P Of course, it doesn't last, but that dehydrated moment before you guzzle a litre or two of water and have to stop kidding yourself is a pretty fun feeling! :P0 -
I had a night out Saturday, was a good night but I went crazy and drank water all night.
Vodka, gin I hear are pretty low0 -
Great advice and suggestions from most people in this thread!
When drinking and watching what you're consuming, make sure you steer clear of pre-mixed / RTD drinks that are packed full of sugarr - not sure of US brands, but here in Aus products like Vodka Cruisers, Midori mixers, etc.
Cider can also be tricky - some of the big name brands (Rekorderlig) are loaded with added sugar and flavourings, but there are a growing number of products that are all real fruit.
I've been making room for craft beer in my eating plan, but my first love is absinthe - however as I usually drink it traditionally with sugar, or in sparkling apple juice, I've been giving it a miss since starting on this.0
