Slim Fast

I am not an all out slim fast hater...But, here's my experience with it:
My husband is a Pastor and we are both at church crazy early on Sunday mornings until early afternoon. Neither of us wanted to get up any earlier than we already do to cook breakfast and since you can drink slimfast on the go, we bought them for Sunday mornings only. We've used them for 4+ months until recently. I decided I was sick of spending the money on something that left us starving before our 2nd service even started. So I went and bought a blender, fruit and spinach. I now make him a delicious smoothie for breakfast with the same amount of calories as slim fast had. We both stay fuller longer, it is healthier and quick to make. The fruit is an expense but it isn't much more than the slimfast was...and since I started making the smoothies, he has one for breakfast everyday.0 -
I'd rather eat real food. I dont see any advantages to relying on a processed overly sweet sludge.
second that :flowerforyou:0 -

The shakes taste like flavored chalk. The bars were okay, but still had that chalky after-taste. It's okay for a snack, but not as a meal replacement. You'll gain the weight back the moment you start eating real food again.0
-
I tried it a few times in the past and it NEVER worked because I was starving all the time.
As others said, eat real food, eat at a calorie deficit and you'll lose weight. No need to buy overpriced shakes.0 -
overt attempt at spamming...
so let me get this straight; the slim fast replacement shake is garbage, but the shakeology replacement shake is heavenly, bordering on magical unicorn dust....hmmmmmm the irony here is amazing ...
how much is this magical drink you are selling?
This made me LMAO at my desk. The person next to me thinks I'm nuts. Logging off. hahahaha0 -

Decoding the Fine Print
After a quick-scan of the ingredients list, we can assure you that this stuff ain’t magic! It’s just fancy experiments performed in a laboratory. Here’s what we found:
This Slim-Fast shake contains only four real ingredients (nonfat milk, sugar, cocoa and canola oil); coupled with a whopping 19 chemical additives. Plus, an additional 19 added vitamins and minerals (i.e., their nutrition blend). So, that’s a staggering total of 42 items padding out the ingredients list. Where’s the healthy part?
Here’s the breakdown of the goods:
Sugar is listed as the second and fourth ingredient – and that’s never a good sign.
Trans fats in the form of hydrogenated soybean oil. Eek!
There’s one refined sweetener (maltodextrin) and two artificial sweeteners (sucralose and acesulfame). Yikes!
And there are a slew of random additives that are hard to pronounce: calcium caseinate, cellulose gel, mono and diglycerides, potassium phosphate, soybean lecithin, cellulose gum, carrageenan, isolated soy protein, artificial flavor, potassium carrageenan, and sodium citrate.0 -

I never claimed that slim fast is garbage and shakeology is heavenly unicorn dust. A healthy clean diet and exercise are the heavenly unicorn dust. I wish you wouldn't be so quick to judge my intentions. You can assume all you want...but couldn't be farther from the truth.0 -

Please explain to me how your post was not a blatant attempt to sell your product?
Also, please explain to me how a replacement shake is better than real food..??
The implication of your post was that Shakeology was superior to slim fast; but they are both meal replacement shakes that do the same thing; hence, the irony in your statement..
oh, and while we are at it please define 'clean' eating, as there are about a million variations of this...
1. I'm not selling anything. I did my own research on meal replacements and chose Shakeolgy for myself. No one "sold" it to me, and I'm not selling it to anyone. Just offering up my experience based on comparison of what's in Shakeolgy vs. other meal replacements.
2. I DID NOT say that a meal replacement is better than real food. Clearly, you did not read my post. I specifically said that a clean diet and exercise are the keys. The fact of life is that there are people who choose to use meal replacements. I offered to answer questions because I use the product. That's it.
3. Compare the ingredients! A Snickers bar could be called a "meal replacement", too. It is MY OPINION that Shakeolgy provides my body heathier ingredients than other options.
4. Yes, I understand the million variations of "clean" eating. To keep it simple, My point is that eating a diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, veggies, fruit (the outside aisles of the grocery store, if you will....) and exercise are vital to health and fitness.
I'm truly sorry I struck a nerve with you. You might try to be a little more open minded and allow others to share their ideas and suggestions without attacking them. It's people like you who give public message boards a bad name. Thanks for creating a hostile environment.0 -

really...
....reallllly sick of seeing people offering to give their thoughts on a product that they're selling.
On top of all that, it tastes terrible and is horrifically overpriced.0 -
It made my poop stink. And I did not get slim fast.0

I'd rather eat food.0

READ THE INGREDIENT LIST!!!! What (if anything)on that bottle says healthy or nutritious to you.0
-
As another poster did, I used it in high school before a prom. I only did it for a week, but lost five pounds, so my slightly-too-tight-dress would fit. I gained it back, of course.0

Slim fast has been around forever. I have yet to meet one person who has gotten "slim fast" off slim fast. What a crock of *kitten*.0
-
I think you would be much happier and satisfied eating real food in their portion sizes.0

I WILL drink a Slim Fast-like shake at breakfast most days. Mainly because, between running around after my toddler and tween, I don't get much time for myself in the a.m. I've also never been a big eater in the morning. In fact, I've always skipped breakfast (which I realize is a 'no no') in the past due to the fact that I'm just not hungry. It's easier for me to "drink" my breakfast than try to force down solid food that early. I will have cereal every once in a while though which, interestingly enough, actually has fewer calories than the Slim Fast itself. I do appreciate the extra protein since I'm not a big meat eater and the calcium because I'm also not much of a dairy drinker. The canned shake is also gluten free which is a BFD for me due to my Celiac.
That being said, I do NOT like the sugar content and would love to have an alternative. I just haven't found one that fits yet.0 -
I've tried it in the past, not as a meal replacement but as a way to get in more vitamins. I was having bad reactions to regular multi vitamins and was exploring other options. The chocolate one wasn't bad at the time, but now I find them to be too sweet for me. I guess my tastes have changed. Overall, I wouldn't recommend them as a meal replacement, but they'd be ok as a mid morning snack once in awhile.0

I am currently on SlimFast, day 5 of my diet. I really do love it, though I know it is not the healthiest of dieting techniques. It allows my mind to not think about food all day. I already know what I'll be having for breakfast and lunch, so I don't have to stress about it. I also love the shakes and the Cookie Dough meal bars.
If you'd like to see what I'm doing on SlimFast exactly and how it's working for me, check out my blog (slimfastmommy.wordpress.com). There I log everything I eat and I have posted motivation and current stats and pictures of myself.
A lot of people are against SlimFast, but I think it's just what I need to get started. Sure, it's not the healthiest thing, but being overweight isn't healthy either. I say, do what works!0 -
I brought a 2 weeks pack from costco that included everything i need minus the dinners. Me and my partner started the slimfast diet and within the two weeks we had both lost a huge amount of weight of what you would normally expect, we even felt full!
However, we both gained the weight back and very quickly after we stopped slimfast, its just impossible to keep having shakes here and there and not real food!
I wouldnt recommend it unless you are looking for a quick fix that will last a few weeks, otherwise stay way clear. If you want to keep the weight off i would be looking at something you could stick to long term as it would be a lifestyle change0 -

What are you planning on doing once you lose the weight from the slimfast diet? Keep drinking slimfast all your life? I'm really not trying to sound snarky, but I really wonder if (and why) you think it's sustainable.0 -
I've done Slim fast.
I've done Susanne Summers
I've done Herbal Magic
I've done Atkins
I've gained all my weight back after Slim fast
I've gained all my weight back after Susanne Summers
I've gained all my weight back after Herbal Magic
I've gained all my weight back after Atkins
All these diets worked, but ultimately it wasn't how I intended to live my life, I only planned for the immediate loss and not for the long term. You need to think about your end game, beyond reaching your weight loss goal. That's always been my problem, don't let it be yours.0 -
Slim Fast is not a solution, just a quick fix. Eat correctly and exercise daily and you will get the results you need.0
-
i lost 45lbs on slim-fast many moons ago. However, Slim-fast didn't teach me how to eat right, therefore, i gained the weight back plus some. My own fault.0
-
It made my poop stink. And I did not get slim fast.
water just spewed out of my nose - thanks for the laugh! :laugh:0 -
I love the stuff, but I cheat too much on it.0
-
I tried once a million years ago. It made me hungry.0
-
It just makes me want to throw up. I suppose that's still technically losing weight though. The diet is not worth the psychological pain, it's like every fad diet, it makes your relationship with food very distorted.0
-
Just bought some. There are times I just want to hurry and get the calories out of the way and the bars and drinks take care of that. I get the highest protein content I can find.0
-
It's not bad with some Hagen Daaz and Hershey's syrup.0
