Coffee, Good or Bad for weight loss?

So basically: is coffee good or bad for weight loss? I've been exhausted and never drink, but I'm having a cup today. I heard rumors it would help, I've heard it makes you gain. Help!

black coffee....minimal calories, so no impact at all on weight loss.
now, a venti pumpkin spice latte is a whole nother story. (one which I enjoy at least a couple of times when they are in season....)0 -

I try to fit a fancy coffee in once a week (lately, more. That salted caramel mocha is my downfall). But I don't think it helps or hinders weight loss0 -
Coffee *may* help with weight loss (check this article http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeine/HQ00369 and there are tons more like it) but it's not a weight loss tool. I tend to drink a lot of coffee in the morning, partly because it does help prevent me from snacking.
It will not make you gain weight UNLESS, like others posted, you start getting calorie packed lattes or add too much creamer/sugar. If you use creamer, try to use sugar free/fat free to reduce calories and sugar. One of my biggest downfalls is the creamer I use
I do fully intend to get myself one nonfat salted caramel latte this season - it's caloric equivalence is a small meal but it's a great treat!0 -

If you ask them to put in half of each syrup, it cuts about 80 calories (plus, it tastes better imo)0 -

Coffee is not bad at all its all the things we put in it, cream, sugar, ect. I love the pumpkin coffees and was having them every day until I saw that there is like 200 Calories in a Medium and 300 calories in a large. I will have it at least once a week as a treat but count it in my calories for the day. I'd rather use 300 calories on something more filling or just have coffee with cream and no sugar or splenda.0

It could be bad for weightloss if you dump **** loads of cream and sugar into it...that is unless that fits your calorie goal...if so, have at it.
Weight loss is all about calories in/out...coffee makes no difference either way in and of itself.0 -
For me it wasn't the coffee that was the problem it was the milk that went in it. Especially when I was having 4 or 5 a day. Now I might have 1 every now and then and with no milk or sugar. I feel so much better0

Coffee is bad for a weight loss plan when you add sugar and creamer. It is better when you drink it black. You will consume about 2.5 calories, 4.5 milligrams sodium, and 0.5 grams of protein per 8 ounce cup when you drink it black.
In the meantime consider the "caffeine", a stimulant. It will cause your kidneys to be over active and you might lose the vital nutrients you consumed from the day before. They might get flushed out with all the toxins in your body.0 -

It doesn't help you lose or gain. The only way it'll help you lose is by giving you a boost when you go to work out.0

It's a stimulant. So heart rate increaser (= small increase in metabolism), appetite suppressant, and diuretic.
All minimal but good for weight loss.
But like everyone's said, it really is only that great for weight loss if you drink it black or with skim milk and a bit of sugar/sweetener.0 -
Just all depends what you add to it as to if it will cause weight gain.0

lol ^^^this!!! I have just recently had to go on Synthroid to replace my thyroid and it is not supposed to be taken at the same time I drink my coffee. So, I will set my alarm to go off at 4 a.m. to take this pill and then when I wake up at 5, I will be ready for my coffee. I will not go without my coffee, lol.0 -
It can help weightloss...if you drink it without cream or sugar. I prefer to drink green tea with a lemon (no sugar) over coffee right now, only because i love my cream and sugar in my coffee0

It's okay in moderation. I try to drink 20 oz of water before my first cup. I drink 2 cups per day. I take a tbsp of creamo and 2 pkgs. of sweet n low in each cup to help stay within my meal plan and it works good for me.0

Black coffee is just fine -- it's the cream and sugar that ruins it for everybody (like me!) I'm actually not a huge coffee fan - but I do like my "froo froo" coffee as my husband calls it - my favorite is the Kuaii Vanilla Macadamia Nut -- but I can't seem to drink it without adding some Bailey's non-alocoholic fat-free vanilla creamer and about 6 sugars. YIKES! So I gave it up.
Until my husband introduced me to my new favorite dessert that I enjoy a couple times a month -- affogato. YUMMY! It's basically some kind of frozen yogurt (I use the non-fat, no-sugar added Greek frozen kind) with a double-shot of espresso poured over it.0 -
Caffeine is a great workout supplement. Can be even better if you stack it with some other things to help with weight loss. This does not apply to your Starbucks double frap with whip cream though.0

Uninformed handling of coffee can be bad. Quick answer, be sensible and it's not an issue. In my experience, I think pitfalls of coffee to avoid are: 1) ultra high calorie and sugary "coffee" drinks that are really coffee flavored desserts. 2) adding half and half adds calories and fat, and people often kid themselves that the quarter cup of half and half was really a tablespoon, and that the tablespoon of honey was really a teaspoon, in other words, be honest about what you add to your coffee and keep track, and c) lack of sleep is an enemy for weight loss, so just don't drink coffee in a way that makes you suffer from loss of sleep.
Enjoy the java, I do twice a day and I simply use 4 tablespoons of 2% milk and log the calories, no big deal as long as I log it and know I'm consuming the calories.0 -
I believe it works as an appetite suppressant. I tend to be hungrier later in the day, and prefer to use the bulk of my calories for lunch, afternoon snack, dinner, sometimes even an after dinner snack.
So I eat a good breakfast at home, then a black coffee (no sugar) when I get to work, and don't need to eat lunch until around 2pm.
I drink plenty of water as well, but it's nice to have something warm, makes me feel satisfied and full.0 -
