Tbrain1989 I do hope you are being sarcastic.
A 1lb of fat weighs exactly the same as a 1lb of muscle.
You are right in saying muscle is denser, so a 1lb of muscle has a smaller volume than a 1lb of fat in the same way that a 1lb of chicken has a smaller volume than a 1lb of lettuce. But a 1lb is still a 1lb no matter what you are weighing.0 -

"You're fat because you like salmon and avocados."
I hear this one from family all the time. C'mon now, 1 serving of salmon 3x a week and some avocado on my salads won't kill me. Sheesh. Gotta have my omega 3s!0 -

Humm, PB on bacon, never heard this before.. gonna have to try that one. LOL0 -
I was under the impression that when people say muscle weighs more than fat, it means for example, a square-inch of muscle is heavier than a square-inch of fat.
Of course 1lb of fat weighs the same as 1lb of muscle, but are they of the same size?
I notice people make this mistake when it comes to muscle weighing more than fat...0 -

Ermm, 1 pound of muscle weighs ONE pound, 1 pound of fat weighs ONE pound.. One pound of feathers, bricks, cake, pie or buttons weighs ONE POUND. So no.. Muscle does not weigh more than fat.
Now if you are discussing VOLUME that is different. An equal volume of muscle takes up less space than an equal amount of fat thus giving the appearance of being smaller at a higher weight.0 -
Generalizations about nationalities and physique -- i.e. people that say they have:
"Russian metabolism"
"Greek hips"
"German butt"
etc.
Not to say that people don't have some regional characteristics or diet that can be a contribution (some nations have heavier weight average than others) but particularly Americans that will attribute their 1/8th Greek heritage to the fact that they have big hips or like to eat.0 -

Note that nowhere was it stated that "1lb of muscle weighs more than 1lb of fat," so I'm not really sure what you're trying to refute here. Most reasonable people understand that the statement "muscle weighs more than fat" is referring to its density.
I don't know why this "debate" still surprises me, however, given the fact that there are many here that constantly refer to "loosing" weight.0 -

'Muscle weighs more than fat' in the same way that the same volume will have differing weights i.e. the muscle will weigh more. I don't think this is a myth, just a bit of a misunderstanding? Or maybe I'm being an idiot.0 -

Muscle weighs more than fat.
Your food instantly turns to fat if you eat too late at night.
Weight lifting will make you pack on POUNDS and POUNDS of near instant muscle and you'll end up looking like a body builder ... despite being at a calorie deficit.0 -
If a woman picks up something heavy and puts it down, she will undoubtedly turn into she-hulk.0
