Does anyone else look at calories like currency?
My wife and i had a good giggle about this the other day. We talk about our calories like its money. "No way i am spending 320 calories on a 1/4 cup of nuts thats a rip off" I was just curious if anyone else has adapted this type of mindset with their calories. Its so bad even that sometimes if i measure something i will cut a bit of it off to make it less but still charge the same weight to count the calories, i call it tipping hehe.

yep. I do that. I always try to 'save' some for wine at the weekends0
-
No, since I usually have too much in the calorie account and not enough in the currency account. But I see what you mean,0
-
Yes. And I even talk about budgeting calories for something I want to eat later. :laugh:0

lol ya, i am always saying. "thats way too expensive!"0
-
Daily... Quite sad actually0

I do a lot, but I'm trying to get away from that and have my choices be more natural based on my life style, rather than trying to balancing a calorie book.0

Definitely!!0

hahaha, I do! But I also often will mix up the price of something with the calories in it - I know this is really strange - but I eat pretty much the same foods every week, so i will grab a protein bar that I remember costs 1.88 and think it has 188 calories in it.....it's weird, I know.0
-
Hadn't realized I was doing this but I really do........... 'it's too expensive' , ' that's cheap for a such a big meal', 'I can't afford that' and even 'I haven't spent enough' are all thoughts that run through my head. :bigsmile:0

Now that you've made me think about it!
Yes!!! Stick the budget!!:laugh:0 -
Me too, I'd rather not eat something if it's going to cost me too much0

I do that, too.0 -
Yes! My husband thinks its funny b/c every now and then I slip up and say whether or not I can afford to eat a food.0
-
Yep. I 'spend' my calories either on nutrition or enjoyment (preferably both at once). If it's not contributing to my nutrition goals and/or enjoyable, it's wasted calories. That's why I don't drink soda any more - not because I think it's 'bad for me', just because I don't enjoy it enough to use calories for it that could otherwise go to ice cream.0

all the time. always looking for the best bang for my buck.0

Ain't that a bitsh, being broke in two different currencies! :laugh:0 -
Whats really funny is when my wife and I are in the store talking about eating and notice how strange people look at us the way we are referring to the so called "cost" in calories of the food we are picking out.0

I never realized that I actually do this until you posted this... but I always word it like it is money in my head, budgeting it.
I do this more when I am shopping for food.
Haha, that's amusing :bigsmile:0 -
Yep. You can even earn more by working (out)!0
-
Never realized it, but yes, I do that. I don't 'tip' though, I only count what I eat!! :-)0
-
Yes my 2000 cals are my daily pocket money from MFP which I have to spend wisely. Only Credit card is to burn more calories at the gym to earn more calories to eat more. Although these days I am in debt every other day:bigsmile:0

I compare labels for calories, ingredients and serving size. I consider how it fits my calorie budget for the day, then decide what to buy.
I probably look strange spending that much time comparing, but it's important to me.0 -
if i did, i'd owe so many damn calories plus interest and late fees i'd be a skeleton by the time i paid them all back...
but for real, i do... many times phrases like, "nah, that cake isn't worth 300cal, i'd rather spend it on rum" run through my head...0 -
"i can't really afford that (extra slice of pizza)"
"but it's only a dollar..."
"oh, yeah, i meant, never mind"
absolutely!0
