I'm new here and I get the using the boards as a way to get diet and exercise information but what is up with the adding of friends? I will admit I very new and have only been on a few days but the only thing I see by having freinds is having their news feed added into yours
I may be totally wrong so help me understand

    Hi there,
Adding friends builds up a support network, encouraging comments on workouts and calories burned, tips on diet and diaries, as you can share them with each other.

Just basically sharing diets/workouts/tips/stopries, supporting andalso setting challenges each month, for instance, me and few on my network have set a calorie burn challenge for October, my target is 15,000!

May the friends you have aren't commenting a lot and you can't see the point?!

If you're fortunate you'll connect with a few people who really support you when you seem to need it the most. They can be that "kick in the pants" you need or that person who understands and can boost you when you hit a rough patch. I've had a few friends who were having a hard time and "disappeared' for a bit but came back when they received a personal message from another who was concerned...and commented on how it gave them that much needed pep talk. Those "friends" can be golden!

I've logged in for 659 days because I have my friends to say hello too, no excuse to not log if I'm here anyway!

Btw I haven't logged food for the past 2 days....shhh!

I'm here everyday. My friends make me laugh, smile, call me out on my ****, give me a shoulder to cry on, and many give me really good advice about everthing from diet to working out to dealing with people on this website and IRL.

    I love my friends...

Also, posting here so it can appear in my newsfeed because I totally thought this was going to be a creepy troll post. LOL!

I only choose friends that can increase my positive outlook on the school systems. Grammar is key in this world. When used properly there are many "BENEFITS"!

I like the social side of things on MFP. Getting to see some new ideas on friends diaries & other peoples goals. Plus a few moral boosting emails now & then are helpful. I guess it's what you make of it really. Add or don't add. Or add & delete if you feel folks aren't offering what your looking for.

Interesting thread title OP I thought this was going to be coming from a very different angle ;-)

personally, i'm hoping my friends will eventually slip up and tell me their social security numbers or bank account info. once that happens, a quick call to my friend Sergey in Moscow and i'll have more money than a Saudi prince!

    I was misled.

Find like-minded people here, add them, and your newsfeed will be the highlight of your day. :)

I have some friends who don't need friends to keep kicking *kitten* and have lost 100+ lbs without having ANY friends at all. But for most of us mortals, having the support of a friend really helps in the long run. Having a simple "Awesome work man, you're kicking *kitten*" will mean a lot when you're feeling low or a simple "wow!" when you lost a measly lb is very encouraging to keep working out and tracking food.

Quality friends are needed for this though. Get some quality friends who help and support. For this, you will have to become a quality friend too. You will see a difference in your attitude towards weight loss (a positive one)

Pretty much the same benefits as having friends in any situation in life.

My friends make fun of me and kick me while I'm down...

Have you ever tried asking out a girl in front of your friends and gotten rejected? The rejection itself isn't as painful as the mocking that follows for weeks after that lol

    benefits.
  • Having that support group for some helps a lot. On days when I really don't feel like getting in my workout I know I have a ton of support from others that will get me up and out to get moving. I like to give support to others as well.

    Yup, same here FFS.

ETA to the OP: Are you anti-social IRL as well?

I have supportive friends that say well done on the loss, you did well with your walk, you ate really well.
I also have others that will scrutinize my food diary and will give me tips on how to improve my diet, tell me off if I don't eat my veggies.

Find a handful of people, that will give you a little push, and be totally honest where your friends won't

Lol I am only that hard on my male friends, because they can withstand the mocking better. I will say something like, "I know this is a horribly embarrassing moment for you, but look on the bright side. It is a hilarious moment for me!" :)

My friend handed me a $1 bill to me after a girl dumped me saying "take this dollar and get you a nice cheap hooker. It'll be the most sensible relationship you'll ever have".

On the plus side, I earned a dollar!

    In for friends with benefits.

My friends list keeps me going. They lift me up when I'm feeling down, make me laugh, inspire me, motivate me. It's awesome having a group of people around me with similar goals.

no I'm not antisocial I just was wondering why everybody was asking for friends and as far as the woman who posted about my grammar I just don't like it when people point out flaws and they think they're better than you
