Hello Bikers, I started biking again the first week of June this year and come too really like it a lot. I usually drive to the trails around Omaha NE but sometimes on weekends the traffic is not bad and I just ride to a trails. I’m playing around with the idea of getting good riding cloths so I can ride during the winter. I have a friend who is a bicycle cop and he has ridden his bike to work for two years straight and that’s saying a lot with the snow we get in Omaha. Kev

    I use Runkeeper App…..

10 Activities (I rode a lot more in July and August)

    Distance:
    170.17 MI.

    Time: H:M:S
    13:40:32

    Avg Speed:
11:24 mph (Need to work on this =)

    Calories:
8,360 (I try and keep my HR in the 130’s and 140’s)

My goal is to ride as much as possible because I hate the elliptical =).

So. What DO real cycling enthusiasts wear during the winter months to ride? I bought a neon yellow hoodie. :) Oh, and as suggested, I got a fleece earband.

I ride a pretty awesome red Cannondale road bike, and managed to get about 940 miles in for 2013. A bike wreck and broken clavicus bone has ended my outdoor bike riding for this year!!! Please always wear a good helmet....from someone who knows...Anyways, will be using a stationary bike, elliptical, stairstepper and such at the gym and let my body heal up til spring 2014. :)

As the season ending, I bought a Cannondale road bike which was a LBS's rental bike. He wanted to unload, so I got a good deal. So far, I only put 160miles on it, but I'd have to wait for the next year to put it through.

    Take care.

Pretty sure my biggest issue with the cold weather will be my ears. Any suggestions? Can't wear much under my helmet because it barely fits already (it's adjustable and I can't adjust it any bigger).
I wore a Nike band for my ears last year, havent had to use it yet this year but it definitely made a difference, nothing worse than cold ears, fingers and/or feet. All three is just plain miserable. Thinking about getting some of those shoe covers, look a bit weird but well worth I think...

I have a columbia omni-heat balaclava that covers my face and ears when I ride in cold weather. It is really helpful. Very thin and it keeps me dry and warm.

I got an earband, but I'm looking at buying something like this thing you're talking about too. I hate being cold. But I'd really rather keep riding outside than use my stationary bike. I'm too bored using it. I tried watching television while riding and I've tried listening to audio books while riding, but I just never feel like I'm going anywhere. Fortunately, I live in the south so even a cold day isn't freezing.
