Death and the rituals we do for the dead are all for the living.... so I will leave it to my children to decide what is fitting; what moves them, comforts them.

Hehehe, lots of fun songs here and certainly making me think. I am hoping there will not be a sad funeral in my absence, but a celebration of my life with lots of musicians bringing their instruments and making music together. If I were to choose a pre-recorded song I would probably want something like Bruno Mars's "Lazy Song".

I know some may think its crazy and creepy to think about, but I already have mine picked out..
"Something to remind you" by Staind.. a BEAUTIFUL song about passing on....

What song do you want to be played at your funeral?
    Enter Sandman.

That's actually on one of my playlists while biking  Makes for a great killer-head-wind agony song to get me thru!

    Finally Home by Mercy Me
I'm gonna wrap my arms around my daddy's neck and tell him that I've missed him
And tell him all about the man that i became and hope that it pleased him
there's so much i want to say
there's so much i want you to know.

When i finally make it home
when i finally make it home.

Then I'll gaze upon the throne of the King, frozen in my steps
and all the questions that i swore i would ask
    words just won't come yet
so amazed at what I've seen so much more than this
    old mind can hold.

    [back to chorus]

And the sweetest sound my ears have yet to hear voices on the angels.

I am a female... and i still have my daddy.... but i sooo much want to give my Memier a giant hug!!!!
  • Today I'm thinking that classic rock, "I'm going straight to h..., just like my momma said..."

Really, y'all just come over for a big party pot luck and blare the music so loud it knocks the pictures off the walls...of the neighbors.

I haven't picked one yet, but my ex-husband died last year and he picked all this own tunes for his memorial. Some were very beautiful and some were funny and definitely reflected his sense of humour. The one that I danced to around my living room in his honour (because I was sent the playlist) was Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road. I loved it because I remember he actually did think this was a very cool song when it first came out.

I try not to think about myself dying. It's a little too depressing.

My husband and I spoke of this not too long ago. Funerals are not for the one who has departed - they are truly a vehicle to help the grieving deal with their loss. To that end, I have given him my blessing to choose whatever songs will comfort his heart should that occasion arise. He said that there is one song that will definitely make the play list because it characterizes me in his eyes. That song is 'Hello, My Name Is' by Matthew West. • The River by Garth Brooks. Makes me cry every time I hear it. We also played "What a Wonderful World" the old version at my brother in law's funeral.

If I was planning on being buried, I think "Going underground" by The Jam would be suitably bad taste. However, as I plan to be cremated and lean towards Buddhism, I think Carly Simon's "Coming around again" is better.

My Mother has always said she wants Roy Clark's Version of "Thank God And Greyhound She's Gone" played at her Funeral.
