That video has been totally debunked. Lustig has no idea what he's talking about.

I got banned from a previous thread about this which is a shame as I was enjoying the debate and I had written quite an intricate answer to it. My apologies to anyone who felt insulted...though the spiritualist in me would argue that the only person capable of upsetting yourself is yourself, and no one other than you holds that power.

This is the kind of video that renews my determination to confine my YouTube views to music, funny animals, and babies.

I am always amazed at how quickly people can be absolutely convinced of some total BS by a Youtube video, but simultaneously absolutely refuse to believe actual science.

Yup I'd put Dr Oz and Lustig on about the same level.

That's because it's easy to blame something or someone else. Most of the actual science puts the blame back on the person.

YouTube should only be used to answer truly important questions, such as "What does the fox say?" and "What's the meaning of Stonehenge?"

Look them up. They're as scientific as the video in the OP.

Confirmation bias. I knew it wasn't my fault!
  • I didn't watch the video but regardless, I personally choose to stay away from HFCS, Aspartame and I try to limit my intake of added sugar.

Despite what everyone here may say or think (and as far as I know no one on here is a scientist. Just sayin') I choose to do what I feel is right for me.

I think there's some of that certainly. I'm not sure 'food demonizing' is the best example, though. If we think about it, people who choose to attribute certain foods with negative properties (without sufficient evidence, or in the face of contrary evidence) are concerned about what's going in their bodies. They're actively making choices about what to eat and what not to eat and following that framework; that's personal accountability, as misguided the result may be from time to time.

I think part of the problem is people suffer from information overload overall. They need some guiding principle to help them make choices, and far too often poorly supported fear-based claims provide that.

Shucks, I didn't get in before the "you are not scientists/doctor" post.

Saying one particular thing is the problem without looking at overall diet, especially calorie consumption overall, is pointless.
