IIFYM? what's the catch? ...there has to be a catch!

IIFYM (if it fits your macros) is so logical and so full of common sense and practical science, that there has to be a downside, right?

nothing that works this well comes without some catch, does it?

so, i'm guessing there is a catch. i think that catch is... happiness.

people shouldn't be happy while getting in shape and losing weight. it's just not natural to be happy and eat foods you love while losing weight.

The catch is that it has to fit your macros and people don't understand that part.

IN for if it fits your mouth!

If someone has a ticker that promotes IIFYM, and then talks about only eating "healthy" foods, don't they cancel each other out???

Eat the foods you love and still lose weight? I get to choose what I eat? There's really no such thing as bad foods? I don't have to be miserable and deprived? Surely you jest!

so, i'm guessing there is a catch.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
  • The catch is other people will be furious with you for losing weight without starving yourself, cutting out food, or resorting to fad diets and tricks.

Because they are special snowflakes and the laws of thermodynamics do not apply to them. You're just lucky. B*tch.

In all seriousness, I grinned so wide when I read the title to this thread. There is no catch! And that it pretty freaking amazing all by itself!!:)

Oh you can still be miserable and deprived and follow IIFYM. You just don't have to be miserable and deprived.

The catch is that you have to think about what you're eating and decide for yourself whether or not it fits in your macros.

I was told there would be no math.

I think it would catch on more quickly if we gave it a diet-y sounding name. "IIFYM" just ain't making it.

Maybe putting a doctor's name in the title? Like "The Dr. Spock" diet, 'cause it's so logical?

Or name it after some time period in Earth's history?

We need a gimmick here, folks! We gotta SELL SELL SELL!

  • Ahh, but who's macros? I don't follow anyone's macros and still lose weight.. WOOT!

I just dont' eat meals of butter or white flour (or toward any extreme high carb or high fat diets).

But then I'd have to come up with a different reason I was in a bad mood. And that just sounds like too much introspection.

The catch is that calories are still a macro, and you still have to stay under your goal.

I love getting asked this by people.

'But you're eating chips/drinking wine/eating chocolate! How are you losing weight?'

BECAUSE I"M NOT DIETING, I'M JUST EATING :D

It really is that simple, IMO. Eat to the numbers and your weight will behave (for the most part) (goddamn fluctuations)

the catch is....you have to be a grown up about it. You have to be scrupulously honest with your logging. And you have to be reasonably careful to get good nutrition, most of the time. Other than that....wander free and enjoy!

The catch is that calories are still a macro, and you still have to stay under your goal.

If it fits your macros it will fit your calorie goal. There is no possible way to go over your calories and stay under your macro goals. It is impossible.
