January Walking Challenge-2014

This is continued from previous Walking Challenges, but it’s nice when each month has its own thread.

*** Anyone can join in at any time. The more the merrier, let’s keep each other motivated****

Walking seems like the easiest way to start getting exercise, and even if you can't track distance (or don't want to), tracking time is good too...go for a 10 min walk after dinner, or up it to 30 minutes, you'll be amazed at the end of the month how much more exercise your getting in. :)

Check in everyday with how far you walked or how long, this is just to motivate us to get in at least some exercise every day, and keep an eye on each other.


I want to try to keep this mostly to walking or walking type exercising. Treadmills and elliptical are A-OK.

Hope to see some more faces in this challenge; we'll start tracking January 1st.

    I started walking today and hope to walk at least 5 days a week. Did 4 miles today at about 3.5 mph. Took me a little over an hour. :)

  • Jan 5 -- 30 min
    Jan 6 -- 30 min -- treadmill at 3.5mph

    My goal is to get my heart rate up every possible day this week.

    6 jan- 1.5 miles on treadmill not bad for 1st day x
  • 6th Jan - Walked the school run. It's about 1.7 miles round trip and doing it again this afternoon. No more lazy Jakki :D

    It may seem a little change but to me it's massive. I'm just about coming out of my PND and i'm not sleeping too good. Getting up in time has always been a problem but I'm kicking myself up the bum so feel free to send kicks through cyber space!

    Well done to all of you too, getting going is the hardest part isn't it?! xxx

  • Thankyou! I intend to walk around 5/6 miles tomorrow as I need to pop into town. I have other mums that walk too so it's great to have that support as well as you fab guys on here :) xxx

    Just start posting. This thread is not so much a challenge as it is a place to stay motivated. You may post distance or time or anything else that will keep you motivated to move.

    Thanks - partly because I'm a teacher and so was able to get some miles in before I went back to school. But I have walked before school every day since we got back (my pupils think I'm crazy, doing my walk whilst they're still asleep), and I'm currently at 38.6 miles for January.

    Last year, with a couple of injuries that took me out of action, I scraped 500 miles of what I would call 'fitness walking'. I'm on a mission to blow that target into the water in 2014 ... :D x

    Jakidoodles - I pretty much started with a mile or two per day last year. 500 miles is actually less than 1.5 miles daily - how about that?! x
