Creatine is like steroids.

Today I watched a video produced by the Hodge Twins on YouTube.
What they are claiming is, that if you stop taking Creatine, you will lose that extra "push" like you would taking steroids.
I am currently using Creatine and I have seen some serious strength gains over a short 1-2 week period, literally in "Beast Mode" if you will.
My concern is, if I stop taking it, I lose that added strength. I don't mind using it for life to give me that weight training "edge", but what are your thoughts on this?
Have you used it?
Did it work for you too?
Any side effects?
Thanks in advance!

If you like it, keep using it. Not a big deal and sure as **** not a steroid.0

It's not a steroid
Just google it0 -

hodge twins are dumb.
Creatine will enhance anaerobic performance in the majority of people (unless their stores are already full) if the muscles are saturated. 5g per day is plenty for majority of people.
No side affects for me. I always drink plenty of water.0 -
Creatine is already in meat and fish so you'll never be off of it unless you stop eating them.

Creatine is a short (SHORT) burst of energy at the beginning of your workout. Taking it out will do nothing besides stop you from holding as much water as you have been. The water retention is the biggest change I noticed.0

Your mistake was taking advice from the hodgetwins. They are funny as hell but their advice is garbage.0 -

We call that placebo effect, how did you saturate your muscles? 20g/day for a week or 5g/day for a month?0 -

If I can buy it at Walmart in a 3 pound jug for 15 bucks....it neither is, nor is even like a steroid.0 -

I saw a YouTube video of a Doctor comparing pre-workout supplements to crack. Does that mean I can put it in baggies and sell it to junkies? I mean, if it's that cheap wouldn't that get me a huge profit?0 -

I was just thinking this last night as I struggled through a workout that I would usually do quite easily.
I was taking creatine in coffee twice a day (only a little bit maybe about 1/2 teaspoon) and man, I felt like I could go for hours, raised my weights in leaps and bounds etc etc and felt really good. For the last two days I have been busy and forgotten to take any and last night, well, I really struggled and felt tired and to be honest almost went home for an early night.
So for me, yes it definately helps with lifting heavier and for longer and also in stamina/endurance when running. I don't know what steroids feel like, but from what I have read it is an amino acid that occurrs naturally in your body not a steroid.0 -
youre taking creatine? thats good mane, thats real good.0

Once u stop taking it u will lose a couple of reps and maybe a couple pounds of water weight.0

Creatine is not like steroids at all. It's naturally present in meat and fish.
Ugh, hodge twins.0 -
Creatine is far from a steroid. The only thing with supplements is that most people don't cycle off and give their kidneys a break. But obviously the choice is yours. I have taken creatine in the past. When I stopped taking it, I did see a slight decline in strength but it wasn't like I lost my total strength gains.0

Hodgetwins are funny as hell but generally not that accurate. But in this case they are right. I haven't seen the video but if they did say "Creatine is like steroids" then it's true. It's also true that weight training is like steroids and running is like steroids.
If you stop taking steroids, you might lose muscle and strength.
If you stop taking creatine, you might lose strength.
If you stop weight training, you might lose muscle and strength.
If you stop running, you might lose endurance.
If you stop cycling, you might lose endurance.
If you stop breathing, you die.

x is true if and only if y is true
y is true
therefore x is true

In for creatine rage . . .0

Definitely not a steroid. The only side effect I can think of is an increased risk of dehydration. Easy enough to fix...drink more water0
-
The research I've seen suggests that if you keep the dosing low then nothing bad will happen but if you really overdo it it can affect your mood and loads the kidneys. 5-10 grm per day though is low on the scale of damage but can really help get the most out of your muscle0

I think they may have been incorrect in how the worded their video but their analogy is correct for those who respond well to creatine but on a much smaller level. Steroids or more precisely testosterone will give strength as would creatine but of course the strength gains from creatine would be much less. When you go off test, you will loose some of your strength gains as you would when you stop taking creatine.
So in a nutshell on test and creatine you gain strength off both you loose strength. When I say loose strength I don't mean below before you began using creatine or test.0 -
HAHAHAHAHA , true dat.
@OP , don't listen to the doofus brothers , 90% of what comes out of their mouths is bull****0 -
I've never taken it but my sone did and it is not a steroid but he did have problems with rapid heart rate and palpitations and the doctor told him to stop and the heart rate went back to normal. Please be careful when adding more of a so called good thing.0

You got the if, but not the only if. The if is stopping taking steroids you lose muscle. The only if would be if you lose muscle, you stopped taking steroids (which implies you were taking steroids in order to stop). But not everyone who loses muscle stopped taking steroid. You have p->q but NOT q->p. You don't have a tautology. The transitive property doesn't apply.
Claiming that anything is "like" steroids, in such a general way, doesn't make sense, at least based off the argument I've read. Chemically not similar, mechanism of effect not similar, side effects most certainly not similar. They have one thing in common (perhaps two, if you count building larger muscles and then losing said muscles as 2 separate points). I'm a mammal and walk on my hind limbs. That doesn't especially make me "like" a kangaroo, does it?0 -
I took creatine for 4 months and my bench press went from 265 to 315.0
-
If you need that extra push without steroids or anything try an ECA stack. It worked really well for me, but be careful I stopped doing it after a while because I got insane anxiety from it and it caused my heart to beat oddly. lol drugs0
