What vitamins do you take?

I'm doing my diet. I'm doing my exercising. I'm eating often to keep my metabolism up. And I'm being a good girl and taking my vitamins. And so far it's working. I'm losing weight.

I take echinacea, nature made brand multi for her, biotin, and a vitamin C pill.

I've seen so many different comments about different vitamins people take and wonder what vitamins work for you? Or maybe you can recommend a better one for me? I've already heard all the arguments that echinacea isn't going to do anything for me, blah, blah, blah. But I already own the darn pills so it won't hurt for me to take them until the bottle is empty.

Your vitamins and supplements aren't really going to help you lose weight or anything...they are there simply to supplement what you don't get through your diet and/or supplement for deficiencies and/or provide extra nutrients.

I take a Men's One A Day...I get the vast majority of those nutrients with food, but there are some that I don't get or don't hit 100% of so I take my One A Day. It doesn't hurt anything.

    Other Vitamins:
    - 5,000 IU Vitamin D because I'm deficient without it.
    - B-12 as I have absorption issues so I need extra

    Supplements:
    - Fish oil
    - Plant Sterols & Stanols (cholesterol issues that have largely been addressed through diet and exercise but doesn't hurt)
    - Antioxidant (Reservatrol)
    - Milk Thistle
    - Glucosamine Chondroitin

My diary is open. I take a LOT of vitamins/supplements:

    Fish oil (many reasons)
Magnesium (Was craving chocolate and someone said I need Magnesium)
    Womens One-a-day
    Calcium + Vit D (haven't drank milk since I was 4)
    Biotin (for my hair)
Glucosamine Chondroitin (Broke both bones in my left leg and need it from the athritis---Man I sound old! lol)
    Super B complex

While some people argue that all they are good for is expensive urine--I figure "why not take them?" I would rather take them daily and be safe, then not take them and be sorry. Besides--sometimes all we need is the placebo effect to make us feel better.

I take quite a few supplements. I make sure to take about 4,000 IU's of vitamin D3 per day.

Some other ones that I take are:

    calcium
    multi-vitamin
    Omega-3's
    CoQ10
    low dose aspirin
    DHEA

And a bunch of other vitamins that support various vital functions like the heart, liver, eyes, blood, etc.

I honestly do not believe that you can gather all the nutrients that your body needs simply through food alone. The RDA is so pathetically low to begin with but you'd still have to eat a ton of vegetables to even hit their low standards. Never mind the fact that there are a lot of vitamins that the body needs that aren't supported through food.

I just take a B12. I used to take a women's multivitamin but it made me nauseated and I felt like I was literally pissing it away.

Vitamin D (because I don't get much sun, but I skip it on days I'll be out in the sun)
Vitamin B complex w/ folate (B because my Doc says old ladies sometimes have trouble absorbing B vitamins and the folate because I drink too much)

    I also take a probiotic

Vitamin D in the winter months because I'm prone to seasonal depression.
Folate, really, just experimenting with this one, I was told it'd help my hair grow quicker. It looks like it is but that could just be my imagination
Probiotic because I have a crap stomach.
    BCAA's as a preworkout supplement
    L-Glutamine for recovery.

These things are all helping me in various ways but I wouldn't contribute any of the to aiding in weight loss.

Take one of your vitamins and put it in a glass of water....does it dissolve? Most don't unless their capsules so I wonder if they really dissolve in your stomach, how long it takes and if your body really reaps the benefits? I am of the mind set that vitamins should come from our food.

    Just sayin.... :indifferent:

If it dissolves in water it means it is a water soluble vitamin meaning that it immediately dissolves and is absorbed by the body. If it doesn't than it means that it is a fat soluble vitamin which means that the body stores the nutrients. These dissolve in fat.

The glass of water thing is a myth.

Doctors are increasingly recommending against multivitamins as a waste of money and possibly harmful. I do take chromium because I find it helps with my reactive hypoglycemia.

It's vinegar that you're supposed to dissolve a vitamin in. Water is not acidic and does not mimic stomach acid.

According to the USP, at least 75 percent of the vitamin should dissolve within one hour in order for it to be considered an effective product.

    (Target Brand) Multi-vitamin (gummy)
Nature Made Adult gummies - Vitamin C
    (Target Brand) Fiber Gummy Supplement
Schiff Digestive Advantage - Probiotic gummies
    Nature Made Calcium 600mg + Vitamin D 400 IU (twice a day)

I take the gummies 1x daily and the Calcium 2x...I know the gummies are a lot of "extra calories", about 100 to be exact. But it is my "treat" for the day and I count them in my calories. I tried a bottle of the gummy calcium, but didn't like the taste so switched to soft capsules.

I don't take C in the summer, but I swear by it in the winter...I've spent months with everone sneezing at me, coughing, and getting the flu...I've been healthy (knock on wood)

I only take 5,000 iu of Vitamin D, but it's what my doctor told me to take.

Once in a while when I'm having insomnia problems I will take Magnesium for a few days and for whatever reason it does help.
