I gotta say my least favorite is Cats. What utter nonsense! I walked out of the theatre and said, "What the hell was THAT?!" I'd have to say my favorite is The Wizard of Oz? That counts as a musical, doesn't it? Just because it's a movie and not a play --- If not, Phantom of the Opera. Saw it live on stage twice.

West Side Story - hands down.

I can still recite lyrics from many of its songs........

:blushing: :blushing: (My mom was a musical junkie - she played piano at home and would sing all of these "show tunes" when we were growing up........learned them by heart as a kid!)

My best friend in high school and I used to sing the songs walking to and from school, and in the school bathrooms "Maria" sounds really cool. Even though I know the ending, I still cry every time! Maybe that's why it's my favorite, because it has high school memories attached to it. Funny Girl and Grease are two more of my faves, but I haven't had a lot of exposure.

    This!
It's just a jump to the left.
And then a step to the right.
With your hands on your hips.

You bring you knees in tight.
    But it's the pelvic thrust...
    That really drives you insane

Les Mis is amazing, Chicago is great too. A lot of musicals I'm not that keen on as audience, but I'm fond of because I've enjoyed being in them so much: for instance: Oklahoma, Anything Goes and Guys and Dolls. Calamity Jane was fun too. Looking forward to Footloose next year!

West Side Story, followed closely by The Music Man. I used to teach a unit on musical theater each spring in my general music classes, and these were big hits with the students, too.
