MFP has the best online nutrition library I've found, which makes counting calories exact and easy. The barcode scanner is especially awesome.
It's got a great community too.

I use the app on my phone for motivation, support and to count calories, I'm on the message boards to keep myself entertained.0

I find I'm much more likely to eat and exercise well if I can see how I've done quantitatively at the end of the day.
Either that, or I just end up feeling guilty all the time after I've done badly... :sad:0 -

Because the weight is keeping me from the life I want and deserve. I want to be healthy and happy, truly happy. I want to do all the fun things in life, like climbing, running, etc and never have to be held back because of my weight. I'm motivated and committed. I'm so ready to live happy and healthy!!0

I'm here so I can get a handle on what I'm actually eating and how much I have. Portion control isn't one of my strongest points, but MFP helps me keep things reasonable. Lots of times I try plugging in different things for dinner to see what would work best for keeping my calorie intake below my daily limits. In the past few years I've started cycling everywhere possible (to work, to visit friends, to the store, etc) so it's helpful to see how much food I should be refuelling with.0

I found I could never stick to exercising if I wasn't a part of a community like this. Since I've joined, I've been motivated by all the support and success stories. For the first time in a while, I feel like I can reach my goal.0
