I don't understand, support or agree with the woman's actions. However, I find it ironic that people are bashing her view on what society should be with thier very own views of what should be acceptable.

also, I love this b/c the mother doesn't realize that the store is now going to get in MORE of these shirts, since clearly this is a good market for them.

Not sure who specifically you are referring to, but I personally was speaking to her trying to make decisions for everyone else. There is a certain conservative portion of the country who would like to control what the entire country is allowed to view or do based on their own personal beliefs. Kind of goes against the personal freedoms our country was founded on. I like to think we all have the freedom to make our own choices, and if this woman doesn't like that particular T-shirt, she can choose to not buy it and not wear it.

Coming from a conservative background, I understand her intent. I am not saying whether what she believes is right or wrong. She has a right to believe whatever she wants. However, as some have stated, her efforts would have been better spent in teaching her son the convictions of their family. Teaching her son to respect women, respect himself, and have self control will help him much more then taking away one thing, which is literally just a drop in an ocean. What's she going to do with Victoria's Secret? What's going to happen when he goes to college? Teach him integrity. Teach him to take responsibility for his own thoughts and actions instead of teaching him that it's the store's fault for showing it.

No, it's not ironic at all, actually. Or hypocritical, which might be what you were actually going for.

This woman obviously knows how retail works. That $500+ return will be a big hit on the store and it could possibly break their sales goals for the month and/or period--costing the company money and the management their bonuses. She knows what she's doing.

That's just weird. If people weren't so uptight about nudity then I doubt it would be such a big deal.
Then again, I live in Florida so I see bikini clad bodies every day. Maybe I am just use to this horrible horrible sin.

    Right?! lol
A bikini top and a sarong works well in Florida. :D

Seems like the older and the more out of shape a person is the more they complain about other people showing their bodies off.

Uggggggggh. I live here (in UT) and this is pretty much how it goes. There are a lot of people that are accepting of 'outsiders' and yet there's still this feeling of a Puritan community when stuff like this happens.

Since I don't have kids, feel free to breeze past this, but for real...parents, -you- are in charge of your children, and your children alone. If you don't like something, either ignore it, or explain to them why you don't like it and let them make their own conclusions about it.

I hope someone else goes into that store and buys all of the shirts she returns.

Not bashing her view. Just bashing her action to enforce her view. I disagree with how the KKK views things, but I fully would support that they have a right to whatever their views are.

It wasn't specifically aimed. However your problem with letter writing does slightly fit. You are upset that people are writing in letters of disapproval. Your opinion is that they should just shut up and change the channel. They are just making their opinion heard as a viewer. They aren't burning down the station or coming into your home and smashing your TV. I know for a fact if a TV channel showed a violent and graphic scene showing the rape and murder of a child, I would be inclined to write a letter, not just sheepishly change the channel. The question is what we each as individuals find personally acceptable. We as a collective are expected to make our opinions heard to form what is acceptable in society.

Your's doesn't fit into what I was saying. I agree with you that her intentions to protect her "little boy" are a complete failure.

Every station I watch has a ginormous TV-14 symbol with tons of letters and words telling you exactly what kind of content to expect from the show you are watching. And if the show is graphic beyond the norm, there is often a written and verbal warning after that so you know it's more than what you might want to watch. There are more warnings and labels and protections in this country than we could possibly ask for. The sad thing is that more of that protection is aimed at sexuality than it is at violence. For instance: the PG-13 rating does not allow any tongue contact with open-mouth kissing, or any nudity that shows breast or anything more than that. The F-word is not allowed or any graphic verbal descriptions of a sexual act. HOWEVER: the PG-13 does allow for the showing of graphic violence and death. Anyone who's seen the Hunger Games knows that . A great movie called "Bully" which would have been a wonderful teaching tool for children was recenctly forced to carry an R rating because it contained the F word 9 times. That's it. Nothing else, just the F word. It's a huge injustice that in this country the inability to tolerate a few swear words or the visual of the female nipple has caused us to change an entire ratings system, but it's perfectly okay to show one child stab another or grab another by the head and violently break his neck.
