I don't see the point of doing this diary if we are just going to cheat ourselves. Not logging in your daily intake whether good or bad is fooling yourself and others. I cant speak for anyone else but I often go to my friends diaries to see what they are eating in the hopes of finding something new. I can not say that I have changed what I eat as much as I have changed the portions. I still have pizza, pasta, potato, and sweets on occasion. I don't believe that you have to eat just salad and yogurt to be successful at losing weight. I have lost 44 lbs. so far so I must be doing something right. If I want something more than my normal, I make myself work for it by working around the house, walking, or exercising.

Solid noob post. For realz. You get it, nice job!

Log it all - always - it is a rule. Read the fine print.

What is "bad" food? Something that tastes bad? If it tastes bad then I'm more likely to never eat it again rather than make it easier.

I log everything. If I'm not keeping an accurate food diary then what's the point of doing it at all?
  • haha. I'm not suggesting not logging something. All I'm suggesting is that logging it puts it into your food database. Which means when you tap that same meal tomorrow, that same food pops up in the options. Therefore it would be easier to eat the same thing (as far as logging everything goes) then it would be to find a different food that you have not logged before because something new would not be in your database.
  • oh and by the way, I really don't believe in bad food either. But I do believe that eating a lot of high calorie, high carbohydrate foods is a bad idea, especially if you're trying to lose weight.

I know of several people here who have lost a lot of weight eating a lot of carbs. As long as it fits your daily calorie/macro goal, and you don't have a medical issue that requires you to limit certain foods, then you should eat what you want. Right?

.... it just seems like it makes it easier to eat that same bad food again.

Sure does! Lets me see just how "bad" it is, and work the rest of my day around it. 200g of mint chip ice cream? Totally worth it, and now that I'm tracking all my foods, I'm always sure to have room for my treats.

Wait, was that not what you were getting at?
  • Okay well, my personal macro goal does not call for an excessive amount of carbs. and like Forrest Gump would say, "And that's all I have to say about that."

    your goal is 1200?
  • you aren't doing yourself any favors by lying to yourself. Log everything.

hold on... I just looked at your diary, OP.

1240 calories for a MAN? Why are you eating so little? Did you have gastric bypass or are you only 4' tall?

It's like a foundation to me... Like a do not go below kinda number. I know my BMR calls for a few hundred more, but it helps my brain to set it lower. It helps me avoid shattering it completely on a regular basis.

Plus, in pretty new at this macro style nutrient plan, so I'm still working to get used to the best kind of things to eat when historically my diet was dominated by carb intake.
  • If you are craving unhealthy food I find it amazing to make a super healthy smoothie out of vegetables and water. You will probably hate it. Force yourself to drink two gulps. You'll get nutrients and bam hunger pangs gone!

There are very few categorically 'bad' foods.

Choosing not to log a food is a choice to ignore the caloric impact that food has on your daily total, as well as the impact it has on your macronutrients and micronutrients.

Seeing whiskey in the frequently eaten category is weird but I do log the bad food just to get an idea of how the calories add up.

Haha. Do you use the bar code scanner on the app for that? Lol

Are you sure it actually helps you to do that?

    I'm not yet convinced.

It's more likely to make you realize just how bad it was, or maybe that it wasn't as bad as you thought.

^^this. But lol on your idea...

Own every bite. The good, the bad, and the Reeses Cups :)
  • Might as well log them all. You're only cheating yourself.

I personally like logging my bad foods... motivates my fat *kitten* to go workout!

(Side note- I log everything. I need the accountability. Unless its just a bite or a sip it gets logged. That's why I allot myself 100 wiggle calories for the sips and bites I don't record. ie... a sip of soda from my hubbys glass or a bite of my friends dinner... stuff like that. But If I eat it, I log it. Plain and simple)

^^^This. If I don't log in every bite I eat, I end up bingeing because I have no accountability. I usually don't eat my workout calories, or, if I do, I use them for my "treats" or little extras. Today I had some real, full fat cheddar cheese on my salad ( ) with 110 of my workout calories. Love those workout calories ( ). Those workout calories are the only reason I hit the gym after work today.

Honestly don't get the idea of bad food. Unless you mean, like, pickles or cauliflower.

I've found that logging my cheat days caused them to gradually become tamer.

There totally are bad foods. Examples:
    - E&J Brandy, 1 container
    - Robitussin Cough Medicine, 1 container
    - Semen, 20 servings
    etc...
