Yes, it does matter. If you ate 10 chocolate bars, your blood sugars would spike, causing insulin and fat to be stored.
You could eat a piece of salad for the same calories and you wont cause sugar spikes.
1. Why would you eat 10 chocolate bars? One would probably be sufficient.
2. That's a pretty massive piece of lettuce if it offers the same calories as 10 chocolate bars.

Some people feel that it does and others (like myself) feel that you can eat whatever you want in moderation(providing you have no health complications).
I can see where moderation can be hard for some people. Some people have trigger foods that lead them to binge. For people like this, it might be easier just to cut out certain foods.
Some people have medical issues that require them to cut out or limit certain types of food.
I personally don't rule out any food. I stick to my calorie guidelines (when I'm not pregnant at least) and I am slowly trying to figure out how to balance macro's. Balancing my macro's though, is more to do with overall health and not really important to actual weight loss for me. I mean there was a guy who lost weight on a "Twinkie Diet." It wasn't healthy, but he did lose weight.0 -

10 chocolate bars?!! Personally that would make me sick to my stomach. Although since switching to dark chocolate, a small square is usually all I need to satisfy a chocolate craving.
How about I eat a chicken salad and have a square of chocolate as desert? Although I still don't think that is going to come close to the calories in 10 chocolate bars.0 -
I relapsed today. I had a darn cinnamon raisin bagel. :sad:
I went for three days without one. I'm pissed.
If I stopped eating bread cold turkey...would I stop craving it after a while? Is it possible that I crave bread or is it in my head? I'm not talking Wonder Bread but bagels and crusty ciabbata and semolina and all that good shiz?
I know bread is merely simple starch which is sugar, so what can I do? I know I'm in control but sometimes I wonder......
There is nothing inherently wrong with bread or your bagel...I have bread all of the time...it's fine.0 -
Depends on who you ask....
But I believe it does not matter, you will lose weight.
Now do you want to just eat junk food your whole life? No .. that's probably not healthy. But as long as you have a balanced diet of fruits, veggies, protein, fiber, etc ... there is no reason to not eat ice cream, fast food, soda, etc.
It's all about moderation. You will still lose weight if you eat a bag of chips every day as long as you don't go over your calorie goal.

I just ate a dill pickle rolled in kettle chip crumbs. It's effing delicious, and I highly recommend it to all of you.
Was it fried too? Sounds like it'd be excellent after a dip in the deep fryer.

It absolutely matters what you eat! If you eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables, you will have more energy, and feel better overall.

Was it fried too? Sounds like it'd be excellent after a dip in the deep fryer.

This defies logic. Are you allergic to the candy or "junky stuff" you are eating? Are you sure it isn't a measurement error?
Perhaps it's one of those scenarios where you're eating "healthy/right" for a week or two, seeing some pounds drop off (for various reasons, one of them being a calorie deficit), but you can't take the deprivation after a week or two so you binge and eat "candy or junky stuff", decide your diet is "broken", so you EAT ALL TEH FOODZ!1!!eleven!!1 and then get on the scale after a few days and see that your weight loss has stalled so you conclude that you "can't lose as well" because "candy or junky stuff"? I'm just guessing here, but I can see this scenario playing out for a lot of people.0 -

I don't know if it's part of the aging process, or if it's due to a couple of medical issues I have, but it is true for me that I need to eat as well as possible to continue losing.0 -

Yes, it does matter.
If all you care about is the number on the scale, then it's fine, make sure you stay close to your calorie goal and you will eventually see the numbers dropping off. However, if you want to lose weight in order to look and feel better, it is rather important to keep your macros slightly in check as well. This and training sessions adapted to your goals will help you lose what you actually want to lose: that stubborn fat, and not lean muscle mass. Long story short, you might fit your calorie goal with 800 kcals worth of Snickers every day, but your body's response will be a big "no no". This is why many people who stick to very restrictive diets, calorically speaking, and seem to be losing weight as the scale says, do not see any improvement in their body image, acquiring that "skinny-fat" look.
Calorie counting is the key, but there is so much more to pay attention to if you strive for an outstanding progress.0 -

No I am not missing the point..what you think weight loss should be about is irrelevant...
There are a lot of people who don't give a rats *kitten* about anything but the scale and that is their choice...
So for weight loss as it is typed "weight loss" is about CICO...
For health, nutrious foods and exercise...but that being said you don't ever see anyone in these types of threads saying yes the types of foods you eat matter but you have to exercise too...just to be healthy.0 -
In short, no. You can eat twinkies all day and still lose weight.
BUT, if health is a bigger priority then just losing weight, then yes, it matters.

My mother lost 120lbs in a year eating breakfast and lunch primarily at McDonalds, dinner was ate at home and cooked at home. She cut back her intake of food and moved around more when she could (really bad knee's needing replaced). So long story short, you can lose weight eating whatever you want to eat so long as you do it in moderation.0

For weight loss no as long as you are at a deficit.
For health most probably but the clean vs dirty diet debate is just blah, blah, blah.
I think what is important is what you can adhere to that will have a positive impact on your health and well being.
IIFYM seems to be a great balance as it lets you indulge (within reason) whilst getting the essential macros.
ETA:micro nutrients are of great importance as well.0 -
