I dont know what I'm doing wrong

I eat a bowl of dry oatmeal with a banana, blueberries, almonds, and unsweetened almond milk for breakfast, grapes and baby carrots for lunch and I snack on that throughout the day with maybe an apple too, and about 3 cups of steamed broccoli and a baked chicken breast for dinner. I eat this exact same menu everyday and have been for months now. I also walk very briskly 30 minutes to 45 minutes every day. It has been 4 months since I started this routine and I've gained 8 pounds. I've done so many different things and changed how I work out so many times and changed what I ate so many times for a total of 1 year now and I havent lost any weight. It's so frustrating and now I just want to quit. My career depends on me being able to run for miles on end and I'm afraid I'm going to lose everything simply because I cant lose any weight. No matter what I do I just cant lose weight and I dont know why.

Weigh your food. That bowl of oatmeal with a banana, blueberries, almonds, and almond milk could be over 800 calories. Your lunch could be 500+ calories. And your dinner is probably around 400. Find your BMR and TDEE. Eat 10%- 15% less than your TDEE if you have less than 20 lbs to lose.

Log your food. You are eating more thank you think. Eating healthy does mean you won't gain weight.

I'm definitely not eating more than I think. That's what everybody tells me but it's just not the case at all. I measure everything and only eat whatever the serving sizes are. I clear around 1200 to 1400 calories a day.

So you're saying science is wrong? You come to this site and ask for help. Yet you continue to defend the way you've been doing it and NOT LOSING WEIGHT. That is the definition of insanity.

You don't weigh. You are overeating.

I didn't say science is wrong. I'm telling you that I know for a fact that I'm not eating more than I say I am. Clearly there is something else wrong. I should be losing anywhere from 1 to 2 pounds a week doing what I'm doing but I'm not. In a year I"ve actually averaged gaining 1 pound a month. Even a few months ago when all I ate was vegetables and fruit and was working out 2 hours a day I still gained weight. I measured all of my food and put it into this website and was told by this site that I'm within my calorie range and in some cases I actually needed to eat more than I was eating. What I need is for people to stop telling me that i'm overeating because I know that i'm not and actually help me figure out what else could be the problem.

If you're doing everything "right" and it isn't working then it's time to change what you're doing. Have you talked to your doctor? Had your thyroid tested? There could be a medical reason why you're having difficulty losing weight.

Weight loss is a simple equation (note: I say simple, not easy). If you're certain of how much you're eating but are gaining weight, then your metabolism is so low that 1400 calories is above your maintenance and you should probably get that looked at.

As someone suggested, have you been to the doctor to be tested?

You have eaten the same thing everyday for that long? You need to change things up and also, it sounds like there are no healthy fats in your diet. Also, if you run around all day, maybe you should be eating a little bit more. You might not be getting enough fuel. What is your sodium intake? That could be it too.

Is your job stressful? Do you sleep well? Those can make a difference as well. I say that because when I am really stressed and go through some bouts of insomnia, my weight stalls or goes up.

There are so many different factors as to why you aren't losing weight. I would play around with eating a little more and eating different things.

I thought about that too. I dont have insurance so I cant afford to see a doctor. Back when I did have insurance I was told I show signs of PCOS, which can make it pretty much impossible to lose weight without some kind of medication. I'm just in a position now where I cant do anything about it and I'm not sure if there are ways to help with that naturally.

We're not doctors. You obviously have some sort of terrible medical problem making you gain weight despite only 1200 calories a day. A forum can't help you.

Nibbling a few bits of veg all day isn't exactly a healthy diet.

What do you drink? I know someone who does everything so healthy it's quite exhausting, but then they drink alcohol 4 times a week and thus they don't lose any weight.

Also, open your diary. The last person I saw on the forum saying they couldn't lose weight was eating - and carefully logging! - takeaway pizza and 4 packs of donuts for breakfast. Sometimes the culprit is easier to see from the outside. I know for me, my morning oatmeal is the biggest amount of carbs and calories of my day, and I have to keep a close eye on the portion size.

Come on guys, lets be realistic here.

She hasn't opened her diary. She claims she measures, not weighs AND SHE SAYS SHE HAS BEEN EATING THE SAME EXACT THING EVERY DAY FOR OVER 120 DAYS.

and you guys think its a health problem?

She can't admit that she is overeating and she just isn't ready to lose weight yet, which is perfectly fine. Come back when you're serious.

I have serious insomnia. I work a 10 hour shift where I'm walking around all day and I dont get home until around 1am and I'm so wound up from work that I cant just go to sleep. My sodium is fine, I dont add salt to anything. I do add a little olive oil to my chicken when I cook it or sometimes I'll add some flax seed oil to my vegetables so I do get in some healthy fats.

You have a tumor. Congrats! Or maybe growing a baby. One of those. I'm not doctor so I can't say for sure.
  • I recommend eating 6-7 small meals (every 3 hours) , all of which should include a protein. You should eat within one hour of waking and every 3 hours after that. You should never let yourself be hungry and never allow yourself to be thirsty. Your metabolism needs to be retrained and if you can train it to know it will receive a healthy food every 3 hours, you'll find it will start to smarten up and kick in. No carbs after 4 p.m.! Have lost 8 lbs in one month and followed this same advice from a personal trainer. Although new to fitness pal, I've been following my own regime for the past several weeks. This is an awesome tool to track calories, etc.

I don't think it's a health problem. But if she's going to insist that she's eating what she thinks she's eating then we're not going to convince her otherwise. Maybe she needs to jump through some hoops to determine that she's perfectly healthy before she'll listen to the rest of us.

Dont claim to know me like that. I haven't opened my diary because 1, I dont actually know how. I thought it was open for everyone automatically. 2. I havent used it in months now because I eat the same thing every freakin day. You dont have to believe me, that's fine. I'm not here to convince you of anything. If you cant help me then that's just the way it is. i'm here looking for some sort of tip to help me out. The food scale someone suggested seems like a good idea because maybe the package is wrong or this site is wrong and my chicken isnt 4oz like it says it is. Maybe it's 6 oz. I have no idea. But we are all in the same boat here. There is no reason to be rude to me just because I'm having trouble with something that maybe you found easy.

How many miles do you run per week?

What replies were you looking for? You say you eat little and burn more than you eat, without any evidence. Are you hoping someone will come up with Something Somethingus Disorder and suggest you might have it?

If you are eating chicken and raw carrot for months and gaining weight, you are a medical marvel. Or, there's that other thing you do that causes the gain. Drink. Ice cream. You eat 40 bananas a day. I don't know, but you do.

  • Are you gaining weight but losing inches? How do your clothes fit? My sister is a personal trainer but she was a dance major in college. Although she actually weighs more now than when she was a dancer, she is a smaller size. Weight is not the only measure of good health. Are you sure you need to loose weight?

At the moment I cant run any but when they start testing me I will have to be able to run 4.5 minimum per week and it will gradually raise up to 14 miles per week with a half mile added every week. Right now I walk to get myself at least somewhat prepared for it and I'm doing just under 10 miles per week.

This is probably the first place you should start. You said earlier that you get 1400 cal per day but if you have no idea how many oz chicken you are eating, then you could be off by quite a lot. This would be a good read for you and may give you some ideas.

If you're not losing weight you need to suck it up and go to the doctor. Sure, you can SAY you can't afford it, but think of it this way: Can you afford to have your money-making machine break down because you "could not afford" maintenance? You've already said that you could lose your source of income due to your weight. If that is the case, then going to the doctor is your ONLY option, not your last option. Otherwise you'll lose your job and then you really WILL be unable to afford a doctor.

I have a friend with PCOS, and her dr told her to watch carbs/sugar intake & increase protein, very similar to a diabetic type diet
