    Hello everyone. I'd love to join your group. I have enjoyed reading all the encouraging posts! I am 56 and 9 years ago I lost 92 lbs and felt fabulous! Swore I'd never put it back on. I did. And recently I've added 20lbs to that first overweight. It feels dreadful! Recently, for the first time, when I try to lose it, it is not budging. Or not much. MFP and this group - and starting to walk again - will be the magic panacea - I hope and pray - to get the tonnage off for once and for all. This is only my second day doing MFP properly (although I joined in November) - and I need a group like this to keep me focused while I get a new way of eating and menu plans lined up. I live by myself - so you think it would be easy to cook right - and it can be once I get into the rhythm and with the right mindset.

    It is lovely to meet everyone - and I wish you all great success in the downward descent!

    Just took a 24 minute walk on the bluff trail at Camano Island State Park. 1.37 miles & I was breathing hard. It's been probably 6 months since I walked here & actually did much exercise at all. Now on to sand the shelves in the entry way & get things painted there. Will post a pic when it's done.

    My husband wants to go to a fish fry fundraiser tonight.I'm not sure I want to because i don't know how to do the calories.i know it will be fish filets,baked potato,possibly coleslaw,drink & dessert.I walked this morning for 35 mins. to allow for extra caloris.i would give my husband the dessert.Any pointers?

    Hi All, Started my day with 20 minutes of hard exercise on my Wii program, mostly boxing, which really makes me sweat and then after breakfast went to Walmart and walked around for about an hour or so. Its been pouring rain outside so figured Walmart was as good a place as any to walk and I needed a few things anyway. Now its mid-afternoon and I'm heading to bed for a bit of a sleep before getting ready for work tonight.
    I got on the scale and I'm down just over a pound since Sunday which is great. I'll take a pound a week over a gain. Just think, I could be down over 50 pounds by next year if I keep this up. Slow and steady is the way to go. Not that I'd be adverse to losing more but I know that usually when you have a big drop, its usually due to water loss and not fat lost. I want to lose the fat!! Anyway, hope everyone has a great w/e and I'll check in tonight to see how everyone is doing. Don't forget to drink your water ladies. Remenmber, 8-10 glasses a day.     Charlotte - a pound is great. I will take that loss any day.

    Had such a good day yesterday. Then my cell phone went off at 4 am - my East Coast buddies always forget the time difference and text in the middle of the night for me. Could not get back to sleep and walked around for a bit. Then I ate 2 cookies...I must be crazy, munching sugar in the middle of the night. Today, I will count my calories closely to make up for my wanderings.

    hello! This sounds like a great group to join. I am 58 and need to drop around 100 lbs. Started gaining after children were born, but drop most for several years. But then it creeped back up. My husband passed away about 4 years ago, then I really packed it on. I bought a nike fuel band last November and was really surprised on how inactive I really was. Then in January I found this site and have dropped about 20 lbs. I am way more active than I was, but still have a long way to got. It is getting easier since I have lost some of the weight. I am hoping it will continue to get easier to get more active. Looking forward to join this group.

    Hi All! I really enjoy all your posts. I want to reply to each one as soon as I read it. By the time I get to the end of them all When I hit reply...I forget who said what ( I have never had a good memory, its even worse now)
    I have had a very busy week. I hit like 5 grocery stores yesterday. I went back to some of them and new ones today. I was hitting all the specials. I have so many vegetables, salad, & fruit in my fridge I can not get another thing in it. I called my daughter to see if she needed anything. She gave me a whole list. I was double shopping.She is coming over tomorrow to get our hair cut. A friend of hers comes over and does it.
    When she takes all of her stuff home I will have a lot more room. That will give me a lot more room in fridge.Sunday I plan on cooking all day. I will portion out each thing and freeze so I always have food in the freezer.. So busy weekend for me!

    Well made it back home around 4pm & had to unload my whole car full of groceries, clothing, suitcase, etc. I was so pooped by the time I brought everything into the house & put it all away. After shopping for 2hrs & then driving for 3 hours. Oh well at least I had a safe journey home again. Brought a rotisserie chicken home for supper so I had a thigh & a piece of naan bread with it. I am sad to say I did not make all good choices while I was away, I did walk a lot but am hoping I did not do too badly when I step on the scale tomorrow. Will have to go put my feet up after I post this. Have a great week end ladies. So great to see so many posts & encouraging words!

    Karolsccc: Welcome to the group. Good on the 13lbs. lost so far! Lifting weights is great; I to do weights on the upper body as it is hard for me to do a lot of walking every day or standing exercises. I have arthritis in my knees & feet , upper & lower back.

    Laurajayne: Welcome, you did so well making great choices while the rest of the family celebrated the birthday with excess calories. I can't say I did the same at my grandaughters birthday, grrrr.

    realtrueblue: Welcome, sounds like you have had quite a journey so far. It is so easy to put weight on, but so vry hard to take it off & maintain it. Wishing you great success this time & of course success to keep it off. Maintenance is just as important as weight loss. maybe you could share with us how you managed to lose the 92 lbs, the first time around.

    merrygrannie: Use the food data to count the calories. Just type in fried fish & it will come up with a long list of selections to choose from. Same with the coleslaw. Just pick the one that seems closest to the same ingredients of what you ate. Or break it down & add up the calories & add it to the quick calorie count.

    Charlotte: I too walked around Walmart today for 2 hours, buying clothes for my hubby for our holidays; a nightie, bra, pants & earrings for me. A whole lot of pharmacy items, cat & dog supplies, & lots of groceries. Great weight loss, good for you for committing to daily exercise & healthy eating!

    Hello all. I haven't joined a group for many years. However, this looks like one I actually need to join. I'm used to kilos, so shall try converting as I type. I started last year at 123 kilos (271 lbs), not with MFP, just me going to the Doctor and deciding I needed to address my weight as I was technically diabetic, he said. Joined up here a few days ago and have been reading some of the posts. Here in Australia you are classified as diabetic if you are over a certain level and I was over, way over, so my Doctor said he would have to classify me as such. That scared the living daylights out of me because of the ramifications of the condition. I was also facing a double knee replacement which did not sit well. Since I started the weight reduction it has been a very interesting journey. I have learned a lot about what my body will do if I eat certain things. I am currently at 83 kilos (183 lbs) but would like to get down another 30 Kilos or 66 lbs, so still a long, long way to go. I am only five foot, one and a half inches with a small frame, so hence the need to drop a lot of weight. However, so far, so good. The Doc is happy. I don't like the "bat wings" which are developing, but have decided that when I reach 75 kilos (165 lbs) I shall introduce weight bearing exercise in the form of swimming. Haven't done any during the weight loss as the bone rubbing on bone in the knees has precluded that. However, have been taking some special tablets and the pain has just about gone - just the muscle pain remaining. So, I'm looking forward to going out an buying a swimsuit for myself. That will be my reward. Don't want to bore you ladies and gents, if any. Will pop in at times with updates.

    I lost it through doing my own version of a high protein, low carb plan. I walked at least two miles a day and went to Curves five days a week. The bulk of it came off in 9 months. And it all stayed off for quite some time until I started a pressurized, difficult job, and had deaths in the family etc. This time though I intend to take it off more slowly perhaps and then keep it off forever. Please Lord!

    Just checking in to say hello. Not doing too well right now my eating is way out of control in fact I call it binge eating at this point. I am back on another antibiotic for sinus infection this time around. So even though I have pushed for bursts of activity I have been sick since March 10th. My allergist is sending a referral to an ENT surgeon due to my test showing some structure problems in my sinus. Apparently when I was born I only had 5 antibodies where most people have 14. So I really have to watch out about getting sick. And of course every year not only do I take a flu shot but I have to take a pneumonia shot as well.
    Monthly challenge- on the positive side I am keeping up with my water :drinker:

    Merry try eating a large lettuce salad before you go, the take some fish and slaw and eat half. To reduce the salad dressing calorie costs I use a tbsp and mix it with water (twice as much water) to thin it. It gives you the taste without all the calories. Tigress

    Morning all. This has been another good week where I've met my calorie goals each day. Yesterday I worked as a substitute in the kitchen at the school where I drive bus. We eat lunch together after the kids have finished.

    The school has a salad bar set up every day so there are always foods I want to eat but something I've noticed since beginning MFP is the tremendous amount of processed the school serves every day and how much sodium is involved. Yesterday they had the choice between "shrimp poppers" and sliced roast beef on buns. Now, these shrimp poppers appeared to be chopped shrimp (or maybe/likely it was that fake crab/shrimp surimi stuff) with a heavy coating. I tasted part of one and it was not very good, to me. The roast beef slices were processed also, kind of like the stuff they use at Subway.

    There is always a tremendous selection of fruit available because the afternoon snack in classrooms each day is fruit. That is a great bonus. Yesterday I had a big juicy plum.

    It would be so simple to eat all day working in that environment, however 2 of the 3 women who work there are not overweight and make an effort to eat right. It is very interesting observing their food and portion choices.

    I love your honesty. I've done the same thing, got up and binged! But you know, we have to live our lives and sometimes we just can't be perfect in our eating. Tomorrow is always a new day to start fresh. I did the same this week, got out of bed and was not satisfied with one piece of bread and peanut butter...no no no...I had to eat two toast and peanut butter then a heaping bowl of ice cream! I got back on my healthy eating the next day and fortunately had two days before my weigh in. I thankfully lost! Plus I threw the ice cream in the sink, it's a danger food and I cannot have in the house.

    Good morning Ladies, It sounds like we (some) of us have had our up and downs this week. I applaud everyone who has posted how they have fallen off the wagon but are ready to start anew the next day and put the bad day behind them.

    Knowing that we all have done the same thing and understand:flowerforyou: that as over eaters we will make bad choices BUT we will start a new day, do our best, support each other, and continue to lose weight, get stronger, feel younger, and be proud of ourselves:happy:

    I just started last week and was looking for a place with ppl close to my age, looks like I found it. I am 67 will be 68 next thrs. Will be married 50 years on June 2 and would like to be on my way with weight loss by than. I have the same issues as a lot of you, bad back, sore knees and neuropathy in my feetand emphsema. All of which I'm sure would improve if I could shake some pounds.My Dr. told me to check out this site. It's either this or surgeryI prefer not to have surgery.
    I just started physical therapy for my back so that should incorperate some strenghting excersies.
    Two things that stand out on the posts that I have read are late night snaking(do to bordum i think) and some of us are from the frozen North I'm in Mn and we are predicted more snow next week. The good thing is we have seen our first robins and the old wives tale says it needs to snow on a robins tail three times before spring! We've got one snow on them, 2 more to go.
    Reaaly need help with trying to decide what to eat.
