The awful truth about stuff that makes you feel full...

Protein and fat help with feeling satiated. Try it out. Like 100g of protein and about 50+ grams of fat. Works wonders.0

I used to be like that when I did 'diets'. I think now I know that I can have some Nutella, for example, but just a smaller portion, I don't think about it so much. No food is banned.
After a while my tastes changed too, and now I really enjoy my chicken and feta cheese salads. And I'll happily snack on carrots.
Ditto this.0 -
I agree with what another poster said: You might want to get more fat in your diet. The good ones.
That will help you feel satiated.
I was doing Paleo for a long time (Loren Cordain's version, which is kind of low on fat). Didn't feel satisfied. Added a bit more fat, feel so much better now. I prefer to use coconut oil. It is made up of medium chain triglycerides (fatty acids), which are supposedly used by your body as energy as opposed to being stored as fat. It's also said to boost metabolism and reduce your appetite. Now- I'm no doctor or researcher and thus haven't delved into reading up on medical studies/journals, etc. And I'm sure there are drawbacks to the oil, as there is with practically everything. But I use it, in moderation, and it works. You might want to look into it and decide for yourself.0 -

I really think Bullinachinashop's right. What works for one person might not work for others. The brainstorming is good though.
Have you ever tried sprouted grain bread?0 -

This, although I would say - lots of protein and even more fat!!!0 -
I also get to where nothing makes me feel full...
I recommend a one or two day fast if it is physically and medically safe for you to do so.
(NOT RECOMMENDING ANOREXIA)
It seems to reset my hormone levels, shrink my stomach, and bring an acute awareness into what I'm eating. (I eat way slower and consciously, thoughtfully, after a fast, listen closer and hear better to my body.)
But the best part is, you get full faster.
Your tummy shrinks so you feel satisfied sooner, so you can eat and literally feel full and sated on much less food!
Easy way to cut caloric intake AND reduce your average calories taken in for the week.0 -
I always feel like I haven't really eaten unless my meal contains some kind of cheese.
Not because I'm still hungry...just because I love cheese.

Maybe try a teaspoon of nutella on top of your chicken and call it mole? :smokin:
roflmao! Greatest idea to date! I don't know which is more significant to modern life, the moon shot or "nutella mole"! :laugh:0 -

I'm kind of with you here.
The Weston A. Price foundation recommends a piece of cheese to be the last thing you eat daily, says it's a secret to avoiding tooth decay.0 -
Next time throw chicken thigh meat, avocado, and bacon on that salad.
You will feel full and happy.0 -

it's because vegetables suck!

Sometimes, especially if I add something to my diet or had a recent pig out day, my stomach hurts and rumbles, not because I'm hungry, but because it's unhappy. Carrots would probably send my belly into fatal shock. Never did like them.
On the other hand, our bodies know perfectly well what foods pack the most calories per bite. The theory is, we were famine creatures, so the body will tell us to eat the calorie dense foods in hopes of surviving when famine comes around again.
Fortunately for civilization, unfortunately for the makers of size zero clothing, that famine hasn't shown up yet.
Also, Nutella is concentrated satan.
And another +1 for Terry Pratchett reference. :drinker:0 -
OP, I know exactlywhat you mean!0

What really helps me is to take at least 30-60 min to eat my meal. Chew slowly (at least 20-30times) and savor each bite.
Fork down after each bite.( I use chopsticks when I can) Really slows me down.0 -
Well, aren't you wonderful!
Thanks for the many advice0 -

Well, I'm Italian, used to a classical Mediterranean "diet", that's traditionally full of carbs. And yes, I would allow myself a bit more carbs than fat, by attitude.
But I think I'll increase the fats a bit, and see how it goes.
Not sure how...0 -
"Carrots. Ha-ha. Funny. Yes, very droll. Everybody likes a good laugh.
Ok. Now, seriously, the real stuff? Where is it?"
   All I can say to that is, have MORE carrots. Until you're full.
Carrots actually make you feel hungrier0 -

Oooo nooooooo! Now I want a mac n cheese burrito. I wonder how it would taste with crunchy bacon? Luckily I don't have the ingredients in the house at the moment, so I'll probably behave myself today.0 -

In all honesty, I would start with protein. But you can easily increase both fats and protein at the same time meat and cheese, cheese being heavier in fat content, meat being heavier in protein content.0 -

Thanks. Yup, I'll try a bit of cheese here and there.0 -
I don't have this problem because I don't eat things I don't like. My brain doesn't say "where's the good stuff?" because I've already had the good stuff.
If you don't want to eat a plate of carrots don't eat a plate of carrots.
I haven't read all the comments, but I agree with those that said increase fat and protein, and for myself I need to add in fiber.
Try decreasing your portion a bit for some bean salad topped with a bit of olive oil and/or feta cheese. I have some dish with beans or lentils every day. Bean/lentil salad, soup, curry, something. Topped with fresh herbs, spices, and cheeses the combinations are endless.0 -
Pork rinds - there I just said what everyone was thinking.
Eat more of these and you will feel fuller longer!0 -

Yes, you are right.
But I, too, don't eat anything that I dislike.
Actually, I think I already had a pretty "healthy" way of eating, it is just that I had way more than I needed. Of everything. Apart from a slightly overabundance of carbs, my daily choice of foods were ok (subjective, I know). The quantities were not (objectively!).
So I tried to cheat my stomach by giving it a lot more vegs than before. It didn't workHe thinks it's having too little to eat, the little fool
Now I'll try to modify my usual diet toward a bit more proteins and fat, as suggested.0 -

Anyway... I really hope you meant to say EXTRA VIRGIN olive oil and not just olive oil...LOL
