Small women: where do you shop?!?

This has been an interesting thread. I'm just out of plus sizes, and I have a heck of a time finding things that fit. i always assumed that clothes were made for the "smaller" woman and those women would have a much easier time shopping than their bigger sisters.

I guess I was wrong.

I have a hard time finding jeans that fit - at 5'2" and around 113 lbs (and I have NO butt so to speak of) - AND I don't want to pay $100 for a pair of jeans.

I recently found jeans at Target - YES, Target - Denizen brand jeans - they are actually made by Levi's exclusively for Target - they HAVE PETITE SIZES!

I got two pairs of the 'Stretch Skinny' Jeans - they were around $25 a pair........

I'm about your size and I buy my jeans for $7-10 at Forever 21. They're awesome and so comfy.

I get a lot of small stuff from Anthropologie on sale.

Reading this makes me MORE frustrated, I think...at least the short women here seem to be able to buy petites! I'm 5'4" so petite stuff is always just a bit too short everywhere too.

Someone needs to start a business for small (but not necessarily short) adult women, selling work-appropriate clothes in small sizes at reasonable prices. I can't afford to buy $500 skirts unless it is a seriously special occasion!

Honestly finding a good tailor is the best option. You'll be amazed by what a small hem or a tuck here or there can do. How do you think celebs look so amazing? Great tailoring.

Also, shop in cities if possible. People in cities tend to be slimmer so stores will have smaller sizes in stock. A couple years ago I tried shopping in my suburban hometown and everything was too big!

Alot of sport apparel companies, like Patagonia, make dresses in small sizes for athletic women.

Target, Charlotte Russe, H&M, Marshalls. Wherever is cheap.

Another great source for small sizes: Sierra Trading Post! They carry seconds and last year's versions of clothes, as well as remnants. They have a huge variety of super nice clothing, outdoorsy, office-appropriate, casual, and even some fairly fancy things. Because really small women's sizes don't sell as fast as medium/bigger sizes, they usually have a giant selection of stuff in the really small sizes (like XS, 0, 2).

Other online retailers that carry remnants, like Campmor or Backcountry.com, do this too.

I call Forever 21 "Forever 31" and continue to shop there ;P

I like anthropologie. they have stores, catalog and online shopping. i find them true to size for the most part. their website allows the posting of reviews so you can get a sense of what other women think regarding size and fit. i find the pricing to be a little on the high side. i try to watch for sales online. they carry many items in petite.

forever 21. they have more regular.sizing. im 5ft, 103 lbs and I wear a.medium in their brand! also, very affordable. ive had nice.dresses from there at $20

I m a shade under 5'3" and weigh between 105-110. I wear between a 00-2, depending on brand and cut. I typically shop at Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Limited, and Loft for dressier and more business-like attire, and Gap and Old Navy for casual items. I am in my mid-40s, but occasionally pick up items in "Junior" stores like Forever 21 or Delia's, and I find European brands like H&M and Zara run smaller. Uniqlo (sort of a Japanese Gap) also runs on the smaller side. If your budget allows, Theory is another line that runs small. I do find that most brands' petite sizes run smaller, so a Loft 0P fits slimmer than a regular 0 at the same store.

While I am small, I am certainly not super-tiny, and I always wonder where the really skinny women shop, if I often wear the smallest sizes carried in a particular store.

I'm 5'1" and 104. I've had good luck with Banana Republic, J Crew, Anne Taylor Loft, and Nordstrom. Yes, I spend a little more, but I don't buy a lot of clothes. The ones I have fit well and they will last. All the more incentive to stay this size.

In a related topic, Forever 21 has been accused of purchasing cotton from Uzbekistan that was harvested by child labor. Other clothing manufacturers have vocalized their opposition of such practices and changed suppliers, but Forever 21 has been silent on the matter.

I generally would prefer to spend a little more for textile workers to earn a decent wage and not employ children.

If you are an adventurous dresser, try vintage clothing shops. The shapes were cut differently then and if you have a very tiny waist compared to bust or hips - you may be able to go 40's/50's glamour. 20's-30's & 60's were straighter silhouettes if you are more boyish shaped. Totally ignore the size number if there is one - no such thing as vanity sizing then - the smallest vintage blouse pattern size (from 50's) I have is a US 10 which was a 31 inch bust and 24 inch waist. You can get some bargains if you shop carefully and have the chutzpah to pull off 'the look.'
