It's a protein source, just not an ideal one because of all the fat and sugar it has. Let's look at a more extreme side of the spectrum, I checked out the baconator I used to eat all the time. It has a generous 57g of protein, but at the same time, it also has a heart-stopping 57 grams of fat. Yes, It has a generous amount of protein, but it also has just as much fat, which by my standards deems it n unideal source of protein.

We need fat. Fat is not bad, it is essential and has lots of benefits.
Not all peanut butter has sugar in it, but in moderation there is nothing wrong with a little added sugar either.

PEANUT BUTTER IS NOT A COMPLETE PROTEIN SOURCE

Yes, you have to balance your proteins. Oh noes.

Also, 7 grams of protein is hardly nothing.

Also, why is it a bad thing to eat fat?

Try PB2 if you do not want fat, but honestly I love all types of peanut butter.

PikaKnight, your PB2 brand has 30% less protein than the OPs regualr peanut butter.
ie, yours is 5grams, Ops is 7 grams.

Because PB2 has removed some peanut fat & peanuts, and replaced it with SUGAR.
again cheaper, less nutritional filler ingredients.
    ouch.

Huh? I don't have a brand because I've never had PB2. So....????

OP, did you read the INGREDIENTS on the Skippy's label & website ?

SKIPPY "ALL NATURAL" PEANUT BUTTER has
ADDED SUGAR ie not a healthy choice
ADDED PALM OIL. ie not a nealthy choice

before the manufacturer can add crappy sugar or oil, they need to REMOVE some healthy peanuts to make room for them.
there's only so much room in a jar ! lol.
that's why Skippy's is less expensive than good quality PB. Skyppy's uses cheap fillers !!

would a healthier choice be a brand that is simply peanuts. (and perhaps salt)

Care to explain how the sugar or palm oil destroys health?

...and when you add it to bread to make a sandwich, it just about doubles the amount of protein.

not sure what point OP really intended to make, but she failed miserably in making it.

Ok it's a bit ridiculous. The OP didn't say that PB is horrible, just that it's not a good recommendation for people who are looking for high protein sources. I don't know why nuts are always mentioned, frankly. Heck the bread I buy has 3g of protein for 60 calories per slice, it's a better ratio of protein for calories than peanut butter...

She didn't say that it's not a good recommendation for high protein sources. She said, as per the title, that it "is not a protein source" and nothing in her original post stated anything that you are trying to say the OP "said".

I mean. I wouldn't eat it as a protein source (7g for 200 calories? Might as well not have any at all) but I suppose it is technically still a protein source. You know. LIke Spinach. Sure, you'd have to eat so much you might puke to get what I consider a decent amount of protein, but it is there.

    For all that it's worth.

    Which is very little

i eat PB for the fats. the extra contribution of protein is a bonus.

Because it's added and it's made of chemicals.

That's okay, I don't like peanut butter. Tried it a couple days ago, did not want.
