Hi everyone. This is a continuation from the April Running Challange.
http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1238473-april-running-challange

Anyone can join in. New & Old. Here the details from last month that applies here again.

Anybody want to join me for a running challenge? Set a goal here and mark it every day here. You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com

You can run, walk, or do treadmill. Just be consistent. I am setting a goal for 130 miles. Don't let that worry you. Some can do 25, 50; whatever you like. We can help motivate each other. What do you say? if you are new to running, set a low goal.

You can set your goal now but wait until May 1 to log your runs.

Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker.
Then you need to update it after you do a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.

If you go into your ticker page, I think the link is:

http://www.tickerfactory.com/ezticker/ticker_designer.php?type=8 << may be slightly different

Then you go to your settings page. Make sure you type your pin in that you set when you created your ticker account.
Then where it says "Your current cumlative value, there is an add button. Just add what you just did and the cumlative value automatically changes. Then hit next.

Now after you added your new miles (or km's) to your ticker you need to post it here.

After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting on how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:

It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png

To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the img tags around that link. So it will look, (removing the spaces in the img tags):

[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]

^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets. ^^^^^^^^^^

So it will look like this after you post:

exercise.png

Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker.

1: Use the link that ends in .png
2. Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
3. remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
4. YES, there is a / in the second /img tag

Good luck! And happy running (or walking or treadmilling, ect). If you have any trouble or have questions, please feel free to PM me.

I'm in - and going to go for a modest 40 miles since I have been trying to mix up my workouts more and don't have any long distance runs coming up the pike!

Oh, I'll join. I'll set a goal of 50 miles. Am just getting back to being able to do some running (then got sick since last Wed .... arrrgggh!). I'll probably start off walking more than running but am hoping to reverse that by the end of the challenge. Thanks for the heads up on the May challenge, Stoshew!

I started a group page for this challange. Please feel free to join it if you plan to follow this challange. The location of the group can be found here:

This new group will allow us to provide additional support for each other or to ask questions. This thread will be used just for the logging.

I really want to get into running so maybe this could be a way to motivate myself to stick with it!
What distance do you think would be good to start with?
I am 53 and about 60lbs overweight and want to try and do it at least 3 times a week.
  • I am going to try this, will go with it as 50km though as am very new to running and even that seems a bit daunting... gives me something to keep going though!

This really depends on you and your running level. What kind of mileage are you currently doing? Are you just starting out? Can you average say 6-9 miles a week? More than that? Less than that?

It's hard for anyone to say without knowing what your current mileage is at.

I walk/jog in intervals. I walked a 1/2 marathon last year, and am doing 2 later this year. I want to get to where I can walk/jog (or jog/walk  ) the entire way. I'm in for 50 miles for May.

I'll aim for 100 miles for the month, again. I have to divide my time up between running, biking and swimming, so time will be my issue for hitting the goal. I'm also a wife, mom, and employee too. Not enough hours in a day!
