To the London (and surrounding) ladies, I just ran across a lovely Etsy shop in your neck of the woods while working. Lots of affordable little "just because" type gifts.

    https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheMotivatedType?page=3

Looks like he ships to the states too!

Sorry that I've been MIA. Life gets in the way sometimes. April & May are hard months for me to get through. I am stronger this year then I've been in the past and am working hard at not letting things get in my way. I am sabotaging my progress, I do really well during the week and then weekends come and everything falls apart.

I haven't had a chance to read any of May posts yet but I plan on catching up with everyone this weekend.

Tonight is my cardiofit box class and I'm really looking forward to it. I did an orientation to kettlebells last night and found it just wasn't for me. Too hard on my knees so I'll stick to Zumba & boxing.

Please know you all are always in my thoughts & prayers.

Rita from CT: I can’t “power-walk” because I seem to be a stomper. :grumble: I can walk fast if I keep my mind on what I’m doing so that I don’t pound my knees. My left knee is quite a lot better, but it still lets me know if I overstep its comfort zone. I hope you are able to get gym time at a reasonable price. :flowerforyou: Update: Sorry you’re experiencing pain again. You might consider seeing your doctor for some pharmaceutical help fighting the depression. Sometimes we can live better through chemistry. I speak from experience. :flowerforyou:

Heather: What is a strop? We use navigation programs to go places that we’ve never been before. They aren’t perfect, but they tend to get us there. I have a couple of different phone apps that do this, and our car has a built in navigation system. I know they have European maps available for these apps and for the dedicated freestanding devices that plug into your car’s cigarette lighter. We also carry paper maps. I’m glad your DH wrote out the navigation directions and you can both be more relaxed and enjoy the journey. Congratulations on your new French map.:flowerforyou:

Joyce: I like your photo both ways. You look great. We didn’t care for Kashi, either.:flowerforyou:

Pat in OH: Thanks for your kind story that lets me know I’m not the only one to ever go through the emotional struggle of accepting that our kids move away. I’m happy that you AND your DD got a happily ever after.:flowerforyou:

Dr Katie: Congratulations on your upcoming retirement. :drinker: :drinker: : I avoided retiring until the time and circumstances were right and worried about it anyway. I find that I"m a worrier. :ohwell: Everything turned out great. We deliberately planned a trip for the beginning of the next school year. I recommend the idea if you can manage it. Oh! I forgot to mention how much less flu I experience now!

Michele: I’m sorry the pollen is getting to your eyes. I use eye-drops to wash it out of my eyes as needed. Systane is really purified water as far as I can tell, but it does the job nicely. There are also other brands on the market. You have probably tried them already, but don't give up on it. It was my eye doctor who told me to get drops.:flowerforyou:

Sylvia: You are a fabulous Grandma! Your DGKs are so lucky you are in their lives. Good to hear Bruno was well behaved.:flowerforyou:

Meg: Happy 55th, you sweet young thing! :drinker: :flowerforyou: :drinker: :flowerforyou:

Gloria: I have no words to express how I feel about the treatment your aunt’s SO is receiving from some family members. I’m glad you have a clearer perspective.:flowerforyou:

Lin: Congratulations on your success at TOPS and with the Wii. :drinker: :flowerforyou:

Kim in N Cal: I’ve come to terms with texting as a form of communication between our kids and us. :ohwell: At least it is private! Posting on facebook is announcing every little detail to the world. Might as well take out an ad in the New York Times. :noway: :grumble: To be fair, facebook does have an option for private messages to be exchanged. I needed it recently to contact a friend who's going through a rough patch.:flowerforyou:

Kalley: It’s good to see you again.:flowerforyou:

Yesterday we went to the beach and I skipped for the first time in decades. :drinker: I didn’t skip very far, but was thrilled that I could still remember how. I wasn’t sure I could still do it. I thought the sand would be a good place to try because it is a bit softer for the troublesome knee joint. I’m doing fine today. We visited the Long Beach peninsula in Washington and drove clear out to the state park at the tip. I was shocked at how many businesses were vacant, and how rundown some of those still open were looking. I generally assume the State of Washington is doing better with its economy than Oregon, but the coastal area we visited seemed like it was much worse than the Oregon coastal towns we passed through just a few miles away on this side of the river.

    May Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least two glasses of water daily.

Hi friends. What a brutal day at work. It was our final exam and it took then entire day to grade it. We started out being assigned a room that didn’t have enough tables and chairs so I was moving furniture for the first few minutes. It was a little crazy. Six students failed and two still have to take it and they are already failing so it looks like we may lose 8. UGH That’s the most ever.

We are really celebrating my birthday on Saturday so not much else is going on here. That’s ok after the day I had!

We had storms last night but today was beautiful.

    Kim: mmmmm wine!

Joyce: you are so right about pets being part of our family

    Heather; enjoy your travels

Cynthia: hugs and good thoughts to you today. Sleep well knowing your baby had a fabulous life.

Alison: the veggie burger sounds good

Patty: this will be an interesting birthday and mother’s day for me with my eldest out of the house. I doubt she remembers even though in Russia birthdays were huge. A birthday was bigger than anything except new years eve. We’ll see

Renny: I promise to try to take better care of myself.

Juanita; nice to see you again

Gloria: there is something about people dying that brings out the worst in a lot of people who seem wonderful but then turn greedy and snipy

    Rita: sending you hugs!

Linda: you rock! Under 200 soon!

Lily: you must be having a heat wave LOL

Sandy: so sorry you are having a hard time right now. But it’s good you are better than before.

Katla: your skipping story made me smile because last Saturday when we were walking around the lake I tried jogging a couple of times. I actually managed a few steps of it each time but it seems so silly that I can’t figure it out!

Tomorrow will not be a great day at work either. We have a graduation brunch at 9 (can’t eat any of it) and graduation that goes from 1-6. It’s actually 2 ceremonies so they feed us between them since we have to be there by noon. UGH it’s such a long day.
    Well take care everyone.

Thank you for all my 39th birthday wishes LOL. Before I handed out the final, a student asked how old I was and I said 39. He said “again?????” It was funny and lightened their mood. Meg from fabulous OMaha

Katla I smile at the thought of you skipping on the beach. Good night Cynthia, sleep with one of your cat's favorite toys

Well we have had coupons for my husbands favorite buffet for a couple of weeks and it was like money burning a hole in his pocket. It's not a name brand at all so i can't find things on the data base to put down what I ate. I hate to appriximate. According to what I chose I am way over on my sodium. Uh Oh!

We have been doing the little bit of yard work that we do. Our sump pump drains out to the back yard and then it is just reabsorbed and goes back in the sump pump. A couple of years ago I told Charlie that he should get some kind of hose to divert it out to the side yard where it is a downward slope. He couldn't see that at all or where we could get any kind of hose to do that. So I escorted him into Home Depot and found tubing and a nice gentleman that would explain how to do it although I had already 'suggested' how to. It worked perfectly and our yard was no longer a marsh around where it comes out and the sump pump wasn't running constantly. And over time the grass grew around it and it was nice and buried. He knew where it was and knew exactly how to mow the grass so he wouldn't damage it. But after his heart attack last year Michelle did the yard for him a couple of times and she ran over it and broke it. So this spring he looked at Lowes for the same tubing and they didn't have it so he was certain no one carried it anymore even though the guy at Lowes suggested Ace and Home Depot. So today he went to Home Depot and there it was again. So we put that together tonight and now he is busy trying to pull up the old one and put the new one in the same trench that it had made. Yeah, no more marsh! That's the extent of our yard work

If we did any more, I guess I should say if I did anything, his lawnmower would run over it, well knowing what he was doing. when we had the house built in 1978 we had shrubs put in front of the house. We live in a bi-level and they are about halfway up the living room windows. He likes them that high:noway: :grumble: :explode:    Can you tell I don't!!!!! And if they were trimmed they would be destroyed because there would be no more bush, just the branches. They are wide enough that he can't get on a ladder anymore and trim the top of the bush. He can do around the sides so they grow this crazy mohawk now. But he says they help with the electric bill and when the girls were here they prevented anyone seeing in their rooms.

Tomorrow our wonderful weather is to end with rain, severe thunderstorms with wind gusts up to 60 MPH, and hail. So I am glad we have our drain fixed now.

I usually don't watch the awards shows at all but tonight is for comedy and they are doing a tribute to Bill Cosby and he will be speaking. I just love that guy!!!!

Hi Ladies! Just a couple notes:

    Cynthia ... so sorry you're sad ...

    Meg ... Happy Birthday!

JB ... adding Mariah to my prayer list

Gloria ... may only good memories and peace surround you this Mother's Day

Sandy ... I am so impressed with the different workouts you try ... my knees wouldn't handle Kettle balls either. Sometimes Zumba is too much!

Rita ... I know what you mean about too many things happening at once ... very overwhelming ... hang in there!

The scale keeps bouncing around and the onset of warmer temperatures is causing me to retain water. Time to really watch the sodium and increase the water!! I see my doctor next Wednesday and really would like to be down a few more.

    Have a good evening!

    Hi,

Just a quick note before going to bed. Took a short trip to a local beach and then today had dental work done so menu contains only soft food.

    Meg - Happy Birthday!

Cynthia - So sorry about Charlie. Have gone through this loss more times than I can remember and each one is so special to us. Never gets easier but try to find some comfort in knowing you provided a loving home.

DH is standing here waiting for me to sign off and go to bed.

    More later tomorrow.

Cynthia: If heaven doesn't include our pets, then I don't want to go. Hugs to you.

Meg: Happy birthday & Mothers Day. Treat yourself to something special.

Big thunderstorms last night were so violent that it set off our smoke alarm and fried our cable box. I'm enjoying listening to the baseball game on radio. Forgot how much I love doing that.

    Stay well my friends.

An INCREDIBLE thing happened to me once we got to Minnesota! I discovered that I had forgotten to pack my jammies. So we went to Walmart to buy another pair, and I got a size 12-14, AND THEY FIT! The next to the last pair I bought were a 20, and they are now way too big. The last pair I bought were a 16-18, and they are a little too big now. So I got brave and got the 12-14's. I'm never taking them off. Never. Of course, they are stretchy knit. I don't think the same size would have fit if they weren't knit.

So, we are snuggled into our room in the hotel. It's actually a small suite. Hubby is in the living room watching tv and I'm in the bedroom watching something completely different. That means I can go to bed earlier. Tomorrow we go on the pottery tour. I'm so excited. But I'll have to put real clothes on over my tiny jammies.

Meg, I want to add my happy birthday wishes! Even if you aren't celebrating it tonight.

Here is the joke of the day:

Boss: You should have been here at 9.30 a.m.

    Employee: Why what happened?

Here is the little pearl of wisdom they add to the bottom. I thought it spoke to our little group.

The journey through life takes you to different places but the most beautiful of them all is friendship. Even though it's only acquaintances, someone you can listen to, someone you can talk to, someone you can be quiet with, someone you love to see again.

    'Night all!

It has turned rainy this evening. I love a good rain!

Sandy, Is your boxing workout something like Bodycombat, I wonder? Today was a real sweat-the-eye workout, and it feels so good after you are done!

Jb, Cynthia Rita, thinking of you and sending up a prayer for better days ahead.

My dad gave me some rhubarb, so I made a gluten-free pie out of it. 10 more minutes, and I will know if it is any good. I cut the sugar in half. Usually recipies are too sweet for me if I don't. Incidentally, my parents are coming up on their 67th anniversary. It may well be their last, so we are having a party. An amazing accomplishment bringing to life the words "for better, or worse."

Did an hour of "Transform you Body by Brooke Burke" DVD. They did some different exercises, so that's good. she really isn't much of an instructor, but she did have her p.t. in the video and he basically led it. I think they used it more for her name. Tomorrow I'm planning to do some HIIT on the elliptical, then stop and get a veggie tray to take to the bowling dinner and then get the "turkey" cupcakes. Then I'll probably come home, vacuum out the spa (I want to see if the pool brush is easier to turn on now that Vince put some lubricant on it), then go in the pool and then take a shower before the party. Depending on the time, I may go to Aldi just for some veggies and bread.

barbie - I usually find that I can get something decent in a Chinese restaurant. Many times they not only have fried foods, but they have steamed too.

Question for anyone and everyone -- I'd like to REALLY clean the tiles in my shower area. Like as if they were just installed. Then I'd like for Vince to install some hooks so I can hang up my wet bathing suit in there. What do people use to get their tiles REALLY REALLY cleaned?

    Meg - happy day tomorrow

Joyce - God is all forgiving.

Alison - you'll do just fine at the restaurant, I just know it. To me, the worst thing about the veggie burgers is that for some reason they are high in sodium. But to me, they taste pretty good

Patty - congrats on being able to teach the ab class. Remember also to do some work on the back as those are the opposing muscles to the abs. So many ab class I've gone to only work the abs and totally neglect the back. We have the a/c on right now, and my allergies aren't affecting me at all.

Renny - how nice of you to do all that for your daughter!

Cindy - Bryan didn't call, he just email. And I'm willing to bet my bottom dollar that he doesn't send me his new address, either. He never sent us his previous address, he gave it to Denise who gave it to us. <breaking heart>

Linda - thanks for reminding me about the necklace that Denise gave me.

Joyce - don't know if this'll work with the Kashi, but I get whole wheat panko and put that in my food processor and process it down to little crumbs and use that as whole wheat breadcrumbs

katla - yea for you skipping! I saw something on facebook about Seattle raising the minimum wage, but I would have thought that would have made the newspapers if they did and I didn't see anything in the papers. Did they?

After exercising today volunteered at the Green Room, then came home and went in the pool.

Meg - so sorry about your day. You give so much to your students, this must really be hurting you. Happy birthday!

Joyce - in one of our homes, which was older and so the shrubs were quite mature (ie big) the neighbor who was an officer told us that it really wasn't a good idea to have them so large as someone can hide behind them and then break into your house. Hope your hubby rethinks his passion for large bushes.

Robin - welcome! which DVD's do you like best?

jacqueling - welcome! Do you work for the Y?

Sylvia - I forgot my jammies once, too. Congrats on the 12-14's fitting!

kayzoola - 67 years! What a great accomplishment! Give them my best

Michelle, I have thought of that quite often as I am trying hard to find the keyhole in the dark because the street light doesn't shine on our porch because of the shrubs. We have a porch light but I hate to turn it on because it attracts bugs. Anyone know any remedy to make an outdoor light not attract bugs?

The Kashi is growing on me. I pound it up with my meat tenderizer, not real fine but still in crunches and it is easy to chew. In fact by the time I am finished some of it is getting soft. But the nutty taste is growing on me. Who knows, I may even stay with it.

Sylvia, congrats on those size 12-14 pjs. That's what I got at Walmart and it is wonderful I don't think I have the same ones as you though.

I don't know the answer to Seattle's minimum wage but I did find this online:

Seattle's new mayor wasted no time in moving the city toward a $15 minimum wage.
Almost immediately after taking office last week, Mayor Ed Murray ordered his administration to develop plans to pay all city workers at least $15 per hour.

He set those gears in motion with an executive order and said he anticipates the wage increase will be implemented in less than four months.
About 600 of the 10,000 employees of the Seattle city government currently earn under $15, spokesman Jeff Reading said. None make less than $10.
Washington has one of the nation's highest state minimum wages. It increases annually with inflation and rose to $9.32 this year.

Good Morning to All, Today is my DGD's second birthday, she is such a sweetie and is so excited. We are going out tonight to one of those play places and then to dinner. Her party is next week-end because of schedule conflicts. I am so so so glad it's Friday. My older DD called and invited me to a cookout Sunday for Mother's Day, we will all be there, the younger DD and family as well. I love grilled foods, it can be steak, chicken, burgers, sea food, doesn't matter.
Not much else to say, I have been working on some auditing requests and this is on top of my normal duties so I am way behind, I am just about finished though and hope to catch up on the many emails I've ignored for the past two days.

Katla Oregon: Wow, skipping! I haven’t tried in years, I will have to give it a try.

    Meg Omaha: Happy Birthday!

Joyce Indiana, I hope you enjoyed the awards show. I saw Bill Cosby in person once, he is good.

Robin OH, Where about do you live in Ohio? I live outside of Cincinnati. Welcome!

Jacqueling, Good for you! I love to watch Zumba but haven’t been brave enough to stick with it. I have two left feet.

Sylvia, Good for you, size 12-14. A dream of mine.

Kayzoola, Wow! 67 years. How amazing, Awesome.

Michele NC, You are right about the back muscles. A lot of people don’t realize that and don’t work them. The class I teach should be called a “core” workout because we do work front and back.

Take care and have a healthy day!
    Patty Cincinnati OH
