    Morning ALL!!!

    Love it...
DeeDee in NC you said it so perfectly: On the issue of aging....I think all women are beautiful, regardless of age or weight. Someone said (Kim, I think???) confidence and a smile, I agree!!! I taught a class on self confidence once, it was amazing, these young women thought unless they had the perfect body, the perfect makeup on, the perfect outfit, they were not good enough...the saying that Barbie uses..."Act the way you want to feel" is right on. If you believe you`re beautiful, that beauty will shine through! I don`t worry about what other people think of me, I only worry about what I think of myself. I can`t control other people thoughts, but I can control mine.

I would also like to add something about the aging thing.... I think a sense of humor is VERY important... Don't you all agree?? A good laugh will make us feel younger for sure.

Another great day in New England.. allergies are acting up, green pollen EVERYWHERE... crazy times.. The weekend was excellent exercise and diet wise... Ended up mowing by hand for a good 2/5 hours... Nothing like it! Ha.

    Take care all.

Heather: I love your comments to Heidihurl. I’m still working on the confidence issues, but I’m so much happier than ever before. My confidence is quirky. I’m socially shy at times and not at other times. On another topic, I’ve used ant bait successfully indoors but haven’t tried it outside. Let us know how it works. The kind I buy is in little plastic igloos so our dog isn’t exposed to the poison. Your garden sounds like such a joy.:flowerforyou:

Robin: Good news for Bodi, and I hope he continues to improve enough to have joy in life again. I’m happy that you went to see him. No more jumping!:flowerforyou:

Gloria: I understand your worries for Aaron, but all you can do is try to live a healthy life. My mom was in her late 30’s when she had me due to separation from my dad caused by WWII followed by repeated miscarriages. She felt old compared to the other moms, but I always thought she was the prettiest one. Most of my aunts who had children close in age to me were also in her age group. My DD is in her mid-thirties and pregnant with #2. Life sometimes makes us flexible regardless of our plans and intentions, like it or not.:flowerforyou:

Meg: What a wonderful thing for your daughter to say in church. Congratulations on a fabulous compliment!

Michele: I’d make up the bed and close the door to keep the pets out, too. If your guests don’t use it, fine. You’ll be ready for them and they’ll feel welcome. Re: Barbie Slide, I look for the easy way to do something if I lack the confidence or skill to do it by hand.:flowerforyou:

DeeDee: I share your thoughts on beauty, and will add that good health creates a special beauty all its own regardless of facial features and wrinkles. Plastic surgery is a personal decision. I think a person needs to start by being healthy and go from there.:flowerforyou:

JB: Good news on Mariah’s surgery! I’m keeping her and your whole family in my prayers.:flowerforyou:

Yesterday we had a rainy day here at home and went off to do some shopping. We didn’t get rained on while going from store to store, so that was lucky. I have some new tops that fit and we found a terrific new place to eat. Unfortunately, I’m up a couple of pounds today. I did go a bit high on calories, and suspect the food had quite a bit of sodium. We had Scotch Eggs for the first time, and sliders. The eggs were YUMMY! Today I’ll drink my water, stay within my calories and move more. I’ll be back where I belong in no time.

    May Goals:
    1. Log every bite and swallow.
    2. Cardio exercise at least 3 days a week.
    3. Have fun every day.
    4. Drink at least two glasses of water daily.

Hubby helped me plant my tomatoes this morning after we got back from the Y. Nice of him considering that he doesn't even like tomatoes! But there is more space in the garden, so I think I will go to the garden center and see what else I can find.

Glad to hear that Bodi is feeling a little better. I'm hoping he makes a full recovery. Dogs are so sweet and dear to us at our house.

How is Mariah doing this morning? Of course she is even more important than any of the dogs. Give her a hug for me!

My son and grandkids came over yesterday. They played for a while, we made pumpkin cookies, then had dinner. It was the first time I had seen Jillian since she broke her arm. Poor baby had it in a sling. The cast goes from her wrist to the middle of her upper arm. But she's getting around pretty well. She's a tough little cookie.

Here is today's joke of the day:

Fun Things To Do In An Elevator:

    1. Crack open your briefcase or purse, and while peering inside ask: "Got enough air in there?"

    2. Grimace painfully while smacking your forehead and muttering: "Shut up, all of you just shut UP!"

    3. Whistle the first seven notes of "It's a Small World" incessantly.

    4. Sell Girl Scout cookies.

    5. On a long ride, sway side to side at the natural frequency of the elevator.

    6. Greet everyone getting on the elevator with a warm handshake and ask them to call you Admiral

    7. When at least 8 people have boarded, moan from the back: "Oh, not now, motion sickness!"

    8. Meow occasionally.

    9. Wear a puppet on your hand and talk to other passengers "through" it.

    10. Draw a little square on the floor with chalk and announce to the other passengers that this is your "personal space."

    Have a great Monday!

Good Morning......late checking in today.:ohwell: Another night of issues with sleep. It just doesn't come.......anyone wearing the Fitbit that reports on sleep patterns. I have been thinking about getting one to help me track my exercise and sleep....or the lack of?

Cindy I am som sorry to hear about the Aunt in your family. Hospice caregivers are hands down angels on earth. I do not know how I would have survived the journey to the end with my sweetheart. without their helping hands and they also support the family. God give you all the courage and grace to walk this path. I will be praying for all of you.

Heidi I just love what you said about humor. It does the soul good to laugh. One of my favorite shows is Steve Harvey. There is always something that makes me laugh on his show. I also believe that we have to learn to laugh at ourselves. So much research has proven laughter does slow the aging clock. :flowerforyou:

Short time visit...made a costume for my granddaughter and I need to get ready to drive to her house to do a try-on. She is in a 50"s Rock Concert and the girls are all dressing in poodle skirts. Should be fun!

    Have a wonderful Monday everyone:drinker:

I'm back from the garden center with TWELVE pepper plants. Four each of three kinds, one of which is habanero. I may be in trouble. I've never grown peppers before, and never cooked with them either. Unless you count opening a can of green chilies. I'd love to make dome homemade, low-salt salsa. And I read that hot peppers help with weight loss. Hmmm. Guess it can't hurt to try.

First, I should try to get them to grow, then worry about what to do with them.

Hi all - thoughts on aging... I'm 67 now and sometimes see my mother peeking out of the mirror! That's all to the good because I do love my Mom and miss her every day. Inside, I'm still in my twenties or early 30's (depends on the day), so I don't feel old - never really have. Do have all the aches and pains thanks to arthritis and such (both knees replaced). Losing weight has helped my body feel more like my inner age. I also agree with whoever said her gray hair and wrinkles are battle scars (or medals!!)

My mantra is I can grow older but I don't have to be a grown-up  Life is to be experienced and enjoyed as much as possible. I also think we should do no harm along the way and try to leave the world a little better than we found it.

On a different note, I finally got a fitbit but am having a devil of a time trying to close the wrist band whenever I take it off and then put it back on. It is a real pain in the but!! Any suggestions??

Heading out on vacation in a day or two, so may be out of touch for the next couple of weeks. Hugs to you all!!!

I'm new to this list and to my fitnesspal. After four days of watching my calories and exercising, staying below my calorie limits even without the exercise, my weight hadn't budged even 1/10 of a pound! I was pretty frustrated and almost ready to give up on this, but my husband told me to hang in there (bless him!). This morning, I got on the scale after 2 days of avoiding it - and I was down 2 pounds! That may not sound like much to you, but it is a triumph for me. It may be water weight or something else and could be gone again tomorrow...but at least for today, I feel thinner. ;-)

I am not much into blogging and so forth, but thought I would give this a try to see if maybe it will help me stay motivated this time. Maybe having some accountability will be good for me. I have 49 pounds to lose now.

Happy Monday!! Well I was up acouple pounds this morning and working on not letting it get me down. We ate out alot this last weekend at graduations. I am down an inch on waist and hips: so that is good. Busy weekend and now back to work. Going to be a beautiful week weather wise and hoping to get my rock garden worked on.
Had a great Sunday. Went to Hebron and had breakfast with DD and family, then joined several other CMA groups at a bikers Sunday. The church served us lunch and had good fellowship. Then on to Kansas and graduation. Beautiful weather, but we drove the car as my backside is still sore and riding the motorcycle is not comfortable yet. DH is ordering a new seat so hope that makes a difference. Saturday we went over to the Vets home and helped welcome the riders coming from California going to DC. I do enjoy visiting with the vets.

Robin--Hugs and prayers for Bodi boy and you. When our babies are not well it is just as hard on us. Take care.

Joyce--don't think twice about telling about your vacation plans. That is what we are here for. I do hope you find something that works for all of you. I know when I try and plan things I also get myself all worked up and worry about the littlest things. Then in the end it usually works out and everyone has fun.

Heather--beautiful cake, you are so talented. thanks, sorry to hear DS is not feeling well.

jb--prayers to all and glad to hear they got all the tumor.

Michele--I would rather use too much then not enough.

Cindy--Thanks for sharing and I agree, pretty comes from the inside. I also agree lately when I look in the mirror I think I look old. Seems also lately pictures look like I have had a stroke, I am still not used to what I see in the mirror.

Syvia--I agree that I do think I like myself better as I feel better and can do things I have not been able to do for years or ever done. I sure do not feel 57and DGKs tell me I do not act old. Then there are the times I feel twice that age.

nena--I really like that saying about the worst past and most beautiful future. Something to think about.

I do find it interesting that people I know and or see have no second thoughts about asking me how much weight I have lost. Sometimes I feel strange about it, I do say I am working at it.

    meg--beautiful what DD said.

deedee--thanks for your words of wisdom. Smiles make the difference and I am working on that. Interesting how hard I find it to smile at people. Working on acting like I want to feel. We are so Blessed to have such wise women in this group and everyone so willling to share and not judge. Each of us brings our own speical touch to this group and I love each and everyone of you. Thanks for being part of my life.

I got an email telling me my fitbit has been shipped and should arrive tomorrow. I am excited and hope that I can figure it out. Well ladies enjoy the day and remember we are not in this alone.
    Blessings! Vicki GI NE

Nena, believe me we all know the exhilaration of seeing that first 2 pound loss. It's not easy at all for us at this age.

Can't remember who was asking about the Fitbit tracking sleep. I have one and I do enjoy looking at it every morning. From what I have read, there are other devices that are more accurate in tracking sleep. I think the heart rate monitor is. I think the Fitbit measures how still you are and assumes you are asleep. I know many times I am very still but my mind is just racing and I don't think I am asleep but I do wake up feeling rested so maybe I am. There are a few nights that there are two spikes only, one when I went to bed and the next when I wake up. Those nights I know I got a good nights sleep.

Lynn, try not to consider what we do here as blogging but just having conversations, telling about what we are doing.

Charlies Wii isn't letting him watch Netflix on it and I have been on the phone quite a lot with Nintendo support trying to get it to work. Apparently he put in the wrong password to our router and it got all messed up. He made me believe that he had the right password. Our oldest daughter and SIL bought the router and set it up one year for Christmas and I always have to call him for the password. The last time I made sure I wrote it down and placed it somewhere I would remember and see it, taped to the router. Charlie was so convincing, I took the piece of paper off and changed the word. So now we know what the right one is and will try again to get into Netflix. He channel surfs so much and he does the same with his Netflix. Update, he is trying to put the & sign in instead of the word 'and'! What am I going to do with that man. Update on update. He got in!!!!

On the subject of aging. I always say that if you're to old to have fun, you are to old. Now what we do for fun will change due to what limitations our body and budget throws at us. But we can always find something to do for fun. I love to walk along the curb when I go somewhere. You know how you have to put out your arms to balance yourself? Plus it is such a challenge for some one with MS to stay up on that curb, I just love it.

Good afternoon! Due to illness, lack of time, and computer consuming posts, it's been awhile since I've said much. I'm finally feeling like I might survive this infection! I don't think I've ever had a sinus infection make me feel this bad. The congestion has not been as bad as it could have been, but the feeling bad part has been terrible.

First of all, thoughts on aging...When I was younger (much younger), I always said that I would grow old gracefully and never color my hair or anything like that. Well, having a child at the age of 36 finished changing that self-promise! My sister-in-law (whom I sat behind in first grade) has a grandson the same age as my son! :noway: :noway: I never wanted to be mistaken for his grandmother so my hair color is still a nice auburn. Also, as I've gotten older, I know that if I ever want to get a "real" job, looking my age is not going to help me any! My daughter remarks occasionally that I don't dress my age (whatever that really means) and that her friends and co-workers think it's great--that I don't look silly, just somewhat stylish. I'll take it! On the other hand, my mother was just flat old at 54! I see pictures of my former classmates on Facebook from time to time and they look (to me) much older than I am. As I've gotten older, I am much bolder. I have made a conscious effort to avoid letting fear direct my life. I purchased a magnet for myself a year or two ago that states, "Destined to be an old woman with no regrets." Most of the regrets in my life have to do with what I didn't do rather than what I did--I don't want to live that way any more. I also made a wonderful friend about 18 months ago who has encouraged, and sometimes pushed, me into having confidence in my abilities and self worth. I still fight with that, but I'm making progress. I've been told by some that I have grown younger over the past year and they don't attribute all of it to the weight loss. They say that my outlook has changed and they see more confidence. I, too, still feel like I am much younger in my mind than my body indicates. Well, most days. Sometimes I feel like Methuselah in both body and mind. I want to be an old woman to be reckoned with!!

I had an incredibly busy weekend with church activities. I was at church at 7 a.m. to go to Pinehurst (those of you who are huge golfers may recognize that as a golfing mecca) for a Spiritual Enrichment Retreat. If it tells you anything, I was the baby of the group. :ohwell: The main reason I signed up, though, is because our bishop was the guest speaker. She came to our church last October and I was incredibly impressed with her and wanted to hear her again. She did not disappoint! It was a wonderful day. When I got back to the church, I spent another 1 1/2 hours doing prep work for a training session that I conducted yesterday. I was one tired puppy! Yesterday, I had to stop on my way to church to buy drinks for the youth lunch after church and then go to a local restaurant to pick up the breakfast that someone else had ordered and paid for for the youth. I had been "volunteered" to feed the youth lunch, so immediately after worship, I commenced to cooking hot dogs and pulling everything together for that. Luckily, another parent offered to help because I was a little overwhelmed. It does take some extra time and effort to be sure my son's food is not cross-contaminated with gluten so I have to wash my hands a LOT! Of course, between the time I put four soft drinks and a gallon of Hawaiian Punch in the fridge at 8:30 a.m. and the time I got ready to serve the lunch at noon, someone(s) had drunk almost all of the soft drinks!! It worked out because there was leftover tea from a dinner the night before, or I guess a lot of them would have been drinking water! By the time I cleaned up afterwards and the meeting was over it was 2 p.m. I went home for 30-45 minutes then back to set up and prep for my training session at 4 p.m. I got away from that at 6:10 p.m., dropped my son off at home and was at work for a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Left there and picked up my son so that we could go to the grocery store. Let me add that I have not slept more than 4-5 hours a night all week because of being sick. I am still exhausted (even less sleep last night)!

Now for the good part!! Since my son is a senior, he and the other senior were in charge of the "sermon". My baby boy gave his responses to the "conversational" part of the sermon with barely a glance at some notes and spoke intelligently and articulately about what the youth program needed from the congregation. He had two main points: 1) We are in dire need of an associate pastor who can work with the youth, and 2) we need more intergenerational activities that allow the youth to interact with the adults in the church and for the adults to talk to them in a mentoring type capacity. After that, he and the girl senior each gave a short talk on what the church means to them and how it has shaped them. My Sweet Pea had the entire congregation in tears!! It was a time that I will never forget. I am so proud of him! After the service, he was standing at the back to greet everyone as they left and he was sobbing as folks came through and affirmed him and told him how proud they were to have seen him grow up. Even the latecomers to the congregation who have seen him only as he is now, were trying to figure out who he belonged to and so many of them made an effort to congratulate me on a job well done. Yesterday was a true gift!

I promise that I have read all of your posts and am keeping up, but I didn't make notes. Please know that your troubles are being prayed over and your successes are being celebrated!

Jill: closing the clasp is a knack you'll get. You have to pinch it quite hard at first; it'll get easier. I put my index finger between the band and my wrist, and my thumb on the outside of the band, and pinch.

    Goodnight everybody,
    Cynthia :flowerforyou:
  • Hi all. I'm 57 and over the past 3 1/2 years I've lost 76 lbs. I still need to lose 25 more to get to my goal weight. I've been "stuck" for the last 9 months.... and to be honest.... haven't been really focused. I'm BACK!!! Back to the gym during my lunch breaks and back to logging all my food. I have to finish his mission!!! I'm sure you all will have lots of inspiration! :-)

Hello gang! I am On vacation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got everything done at work and finished my last chapter of the test bank, so now all I’m doing with it is coordinating. And tomorrow I am sleeping in as late as I want!

Oh Robin….there is your Bodi boy! What a happy looking pooch with his mama! I’m glad he is getting better and hope he gets to come home soon. No more jumping around for him! Ritter will have to promise not to tease him.

Michele: I have to thank you for telling me about the Rodney Yee DVDs. I do like them a lot.

Anamika: I bet you lose that weight when you catch up on the water!

Heather: your gooseberries reminds me of when I had a raspberry patch. The birds pooped purple all over my white patio furniture! I had no idea about bird nets!

DeeDee: I am confessing to no water at all today, so even tho it’s nearly 8 pm and I’ll be up all night, I’m drinking now!

Patty: sounds like a great party! I saw on the news a bouncy house that was not tied down blew away….WAY up in the air with 2 kids hanging on for dear life! No one hurt but it blew quite a ways

Cindy: your hair is lovely! So sorry to hear about your former boss. Hospice will take good care of her though

    Katla; what are scotch eggs?

Sylvia: I love your elevator ideas. Now mind you this was a long time ago, but once (remember a LONG time ago)….I shrieked at the top of my lungs and pried the door open and jumped out. It was a dare. I think the people inside the elevator didn’t know what to be more afraid of….coming with me or staying in there

Nena: I have the fitbit that can track your sleep. I use it once in a while, but I have used it enough for days in a row to know that I am right about my lack of sleep and what time it usually occurs.

Jill: you are 67????????? I would have never know that from our visit. I’d say you are growing older very well indeed. My fitbit clips on. I do know you can get these alligator clip things to help put your bracelets on, so you might look for one of those. I think you can get them at walmart, Kmart, etc.

Lynn: welcome aboard. I find that when I miss posting for a day or two I gain weight! I agree that it’s the accountability. Congrats on the loss. Come back often

Vicki: I bet you just love your fitbit

Carol: sounds like your church and ours have several needs in common. I know when we called our newest pastor, he had many other offers and he wanted to work most with the youth. We are trying to be an intergenerational church, but we have had a lot of turmoil in the last four or five years. One of our senior pastors left about 2 years ago and now his wife (the other senior pastor) is leaving this summer. So not much stability to work on that type of thing.

    Carolann: welcome aboard!

Jane: I have been totally gray since mid-30s so hair dying is a constant. To look good I need to do it every 2 weeks because it grows so fast, but I’m lucky if I get to it monthly. So I go from haggy to nice and back all the time LOL.

Well the baby doves have hatched…apparently some time ago because they are huge. Mama has been nowhere to be seen all day. I wonder if they just take off and leave the babies to fly away on their own when they get hungry ? I have never seen her feed them. When we have Robins, they feed them constantly. Their names are Shelton III and Boston Strong.

Well take care from Omaha, Meg who is excitedly NOT going to work tomorrow!

Carol, you brought me to tears. You should be congratulated for raising such a kind hearted, grounded, emotionally strong intelligent young man. I'm sure God has great plans for him and from the sound of it his heart is wuite attuned to listening to God.

Question for those of you that post using your phone or tablet. How do you do it? Where is it on the app that allows you to post. I have an android phone and an Ipad so I have an apple product and a non apple product and I can't find on either one a place where there is an option to read or post from the message board. Reason I ask is that I am thinking about not taking my lap top on vacation. I have tried to do that when I go on our family vacations so that I leave my games alone that I do on face book. But I have tried to keep in the habit of making sure I post from my phone my meals here. So I will take my Ipad. This forum is so quick moving I know that I will be forever behind if I miss a full week not reading so I do want to be here, just not my face book games.

Did 10 minutes of the "10 Minute Solution Pilates" DVD, held my plank for 2 min 25 sec (up from 2 min 20 sec), I'll be going to the extremepump class in a bit. Tomorrow I'm planning to do a Kathy Smith Step DVD.

Anamika - while I understand your not wanting to use public restrooms, you might have felt tired from being dehydrated. What is it that you don't like about public restrooms? Whenever I have to use one, I NEVER sit on the toilet, I ALWAYS squat down.

Cindy - so sorry about your hubby's aunt. Have fun at the salon

Sylvia - those things to do in an elevator are just hysterical, especially the one about you hitting yourself on the head. Thanks for the smile. You're helping to keep us young!

Lynn - welcome! Your husband is one smart cookie, that's for sure. Congrats on the loss.

After coming home from the extremepump class, went to WalMart since Vince needed milk and they'd price match the sale price from Walgreen. Then Vinc e and I worked outside. We put in the last of the landscape lights! Personally, I would have thought the first thing to go in would be the edging, then the wire for the lights and then the lights. But I'll just leave it to Vince. We got 2 pallets of lights and now we have 6 left over!

    Tonight mahjongg.

oh, Joyce - how right you are, those first 2 pounds off is such a great thrill to see. And then the next 2, and the next 2 and so on. Good for Charlie getting in!

Carol in NC - how wonderful of your son!

carolann - you sound so determined, I know you'll get there. Come here often

Meg - do you know how to handle yourself on vacation? You are such a busy lady. Glad to have turned you on to Rodney Yee.

Everyone who has to dye their hair -- how often do you have to dye it. And if I can be nosey, how much does it cost? I'm wondering if the gal who does my hair is now overcharging.

Joyce - I've never been able to view the topics on my phone nor post from there. When we go to FL I take my laptop with me and use that to post from.

    Good evening,

    Welcome Newcomers:flowerforyou: :flowerforyou: :flowerforyou:

Meg hope you are enjoying your vacation.Well deserved.

Carol thank you for sharing such a special story about your son.

    Heather love the cake!

Sylvia my fun elevator story is a friend and I got so involved in talking to one another neither of us noticed we didn’t push the button to go up. We must have talked for ten minutes when suddenly we realized the elevator had not moved. We joke about it to this day. #11.

    Cindy prayers for your aunt.:flowerforyou:

Deedee agree the dust is not helpful. Hope you feel better soon.:flowerforyou:

Enjoyed watching Dancing With the Stars Tonight!

My take on aging. I like to say when a student asks me my age. I am old enough to know better. Better yet I love it when they say I am 47. My attitude towards my hair is I have earned every gray hair on my head. I have never dyed it and won’t start now at 58. I feel fortunate to be as healthy as I am at my age. My sister was diagnosed with breast cancer at this at this age and not doing well. Working with elementary age children does help to keep me young.

Today I planted my salvia and begonia before our 2 inch record rain, so tomorrow I will enjoy the flowers.

I was going through my e-mails and a friend sent me this, so I thought I would share:heart:

This is important information for you to read (and don't think you're too young).

A nurse has heart attack and describes what women feel when having one:

    NURSE'S HEART ATTACK EXPERIENCE

I am an ER nurse and this is the best description of this
    event that I have
ever heard. Please read, pay attention, and send it on!

    FEMALE HEART ATTACKS.......

I was aware that female heart attacks are different, but this is the best
    description I've ever read.

Women rarely have the same dramatic symptoms that men have ... you know, the
sudden stabbing pain in the chest, the cold sweat, grabbing the chest &
dropping to the floor that we see in movies. Here is the story of one
woman's experience with a heart attack.

I had a heart attack at about 10:30 PM with NO prior exertion, NO prior
emotional trauma that one would suspect might have brought it on. I was
sitting all snugly & warm on a cold evening, with my purring cat in my lap,
reading an interesting story my friend had sent me, and actually thinking,
'A-A-h, this is the life, all cozy and warm in my soft, cushy Lazy Boy with
    my feet propped up.

A moment later, I felt that awful sensation of indigestion, when you've been
in a hurry and grabbed a bite of sandwich and washed it down with a dash of
water, and that hurried bite seems to feel like you've swallowed a golf ball
going down the esophagus in slow motion and it is most uncomfortable. You
realize you shouldn't have gulped it down so fast and needed to chew it more
thoroughly and this time drink a glass of water to hasten its progress down
to the stomach. This was my initial sensation--the only trouble was that I
hadn't taken a bite of anything since about 5:00 p.m.

After it seemed to subside, the next sensation was like little squeezing
motions that seemed to be racing up my SPINE (hind-sight, it was probably my
aorta spasms), gaining speed as they continued racing up and under my
sternum (breast bone, where one presses rhythmically when administering
    CPR).

This fascinating process continued on into my throat and branched out into
both jaws. 'AHA!! NOW I stopped puzzling about what was happening -- we all
have read and/or heard about pain in the jaws being one of the signals of an
MI happening, haven't we? I said aloud to myself and the cat, Dear God, I
think I'm having a heart attack!

I lowered the foot rest dumping the cat from my lap, started to take a step
and fell on the floor instead. I thought to myself, If this is a heart
attack, I shouldn't be walking into the next room where the phone is or
anywhere else... but, on the other hand, if I don't, nobody will know that I
need help, and if I wait any longer I may not be able to get up in a moment.

I pulled myself up with the arms of the chair, walked slowly into the next
room and dialed the Paramedics... I told her I thought I was having a heart
attack due to the pressure building under the sternum and radiating into my
jaws. I didn't feel hysterical or afraid, just stating the facts. She said
she was sending the Paramedics over immediately, asked if the front door was
near to me, and if so, to un-bolt the door and then lie down on the floor
where they could see me when they came in.

I unlocked the door and then laid down on the floor as instructed and lost
consciousness, as I don't remember the medics coming in, their examination,
lifting me onto a gurney or getting me into their ambulance, or hearing the
call they made to St. Jude ER on the way, but I did briefly awaken when we
arrived and saw that the radiologist was already there in his surgical blues
and cap, helping the medics pull my stretcher out of the ambulance. He was
bending over me asking questions (probably something like 'Have you taken
any medications?') but I couldn't make my mind interpret what he was saying,
or form an answer, and nodded off again, not waking up until the
Cardiologist and partner had already threaded the teeny angiogram balloon up
my femoral artery into the aorta and into my heart where they installed 2
side by side stints to hold open my right coronary artery.

I know it sounds like all my thinking and actions at home must have taken at
least 20-30 minutes before calling the paramedics, but actually it took
perhaps 4-5 minutes before the call, and both the fire station and St Jude
are only minutes away from my home, and my Cardiologist was already to go to
the OR in his scrubs and get going on restarting my heart (which had stopped
somewhere between my arrival and the procedure) and installing the stents.
Why have I written all of this to you with so much detail? Because I want
all of you who are so important in my life to know what I learned first
    hand.

    1. Be aware that something very different is happening in your body, not the
usual men's symptoms but inexplicable things happening (until my sternum and
jaws got into the act). It is said that many more women than men die of
their first (and last) MI because they didn't know they were having one and
commonly mistake it as indigestion, take some Maalox or other anti-heartburn
preparation and go to bed, hoping they'll feel better in the morning when
they wake up... which doesn't happen. My female friends, your symptoms might
not be exactly like mine, so I advise you to call the Paramedics if ANYTHING
is unpleasantly happening that you've not felt before. It is better to have
a 'false alarm' visitation than to risk your life guessing what it might be!

    2. Note that I said 'Call the Paramedics.' And if you can take an aspirin.
Ladies, TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!

Do NOT try to drive yourself to the ER - you are a hazard to others on the
    road.

Do NOT have your panicked husband who will be speeding and looking anxiously
at what's happening with you instead of the road.

Do NOT call your doctor -- he doesn't know where you live and if it's at
night you won't reach him anyway, and if it's daytime, his assistants (or
answering service) will tell you to call the Paramedics. He doesn't carry
the equipment in his car that you need to be saved! The Paramedics do,
principally OXYGEN that you need ASAP. Your Dr. will be notified later.

    3. Don't assume it couldn't be a heart attack because you have a normal
cholesterol count. Research has discovered that a cholesterol elevated
reading is rarely the cause of an MI (unless it's unbelievably high and/or
accompanied by high blood pressure). MIs are usually caused by long-term
stress and inflammation in the body, which dumps all sorts of deadly
hormones into your system to sludge things up in there. Pain in the jaw can
wake you from a sound sleep. Let's be careful and be aware. The more we know
the better chance we could survive.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this mail sends it to 10 people,
you can be sure that we'll save at least one life.

*Please be a true friend and send this article to all your friends (male &
    female) who you care about!!!

Heather, glad the cake was a success!

Nena – Congrats on releasing 3.1 more lbs.

Beth, I think a lot is a fine answer. You might feel like the amount is appropriate when you are at goal…only share what makes you comfortable.

Robin – glad for some Bodi improvement; and for the explanation – very scary, sending good thoughts. Great picture of you and him!

YannieJannie – Bummer about the goal outfit; maybe it will warm up and you can wear it somewhere…

DeeDee – hope your cold is better

Sylvia – just trying to imagine doing those things on an elevator had me laughing. Habaneros are really HOT!:blushing: You are brave.

Lynn in MI – welcome, how often do you get on the scale - I only do it once a week…

Carol – what a beautiful tribute to your mothering that your son was able to present all of that.

    Carolann – welcome

Today was crazy! I have had a leaky sprinkler for a couple of weeks; but with my back acting up I was not digging it out and figuring out what was up - well the back is better and so today was the day! This sprinkler is in the roots of a 40 foot maple tree., so out came the shovel, the hatchet, a pick axe, buckets, and I started working - a neighbor came over --he's retired and a bit different, but a nice man, and we talk about the situation and he says "women should not be using those tools, I'll dig that out for you" Well I wanted to react to "should not be using those tools" but the I'll do it... was too powerful! I am so thankful! He pick axed for 3 hours while I moved dirt and we got it dug out - then I repaired it and that did not fully fix the problem  :grumble: :grumble: So I ended up replacing the valve assembly and finally got it working! 6 hours of gardening labor - what a great calorie burn - I am tired!!!

I got very little done on the sewing machines, but was glad to get the leak fixed!

Tomorrow is my gardening job in the am; then sewing in the pm - Plenty to keep me busy!

Thanks Margaret for that email about women and heart attacks. You can also add diabetics, whether male or female, will not experience the same kind of pain. I know I could kick myself in the butt so many times for doubting my husbands heart attack and trying to evaluate the problem myself. He came upstairs form his 'man cave' and said that he was having a bad heart burn. Well that reallly ins't to different from what he has a lot. He has and esophogeal narrowing and has had dilitations before. But his heart rate was 40 and he was clammy and those were the symptoms I took seriously. He kept on saying that he was having a heart attack. So I gave him a baby aspirin and silly me, the cardiac nurse, I drove him. It's less than a mile and the ambulance is more than that.He had me park out in the parking lot instead of the ER parking lot and even in a handicap space that I could have because he wanted to bring his heart rate up!!! I am just glad that they rushed him right back and i'm sure it was just a matter of minutes before they were running him to the cath lab. I felt so guilty when I looked at his EKG in the ER and saw those spikes and knew I was wrong and he really was in the middle of a heart attack.

Dancing with the stars was wonderful. I was very surprised that Candace wasn't the one sent home tonight. She must have a huge fan vote.

    Morning,

NSV today: tightened my belt another notch! But for some reason I still don't want to step on the scale.

Out to water the garden. Will try to check back later and make some comments. Thanks for the prayers and kind words.

Good Morning, I'm at work and in my new cube, looks just like the last one. Today will be a noon exercise today, the instructor can't be here Thursday so she bumped t up. I also have to leave early today because I am training at the Y. I thought I'd have to take a half day vacation today and Thursday to train (my Y boss is on vacation) but my daytime boss is letting me just make up the hours.
After I train tonight I will be taking a cycling and rope class. I did them last week and really liked them both.
Dinner last night was nice. My DGS was all wound up and not the best behaved but having the older cousins around encouraged him as they kept laughing. He will be 4 in July, the dinner was for Bailey (the just turned 15 yr old)

I really don't have much to say, better get to work.

Meg. I heard about that bouncy house as well, so did my DD after she rented hers. She had a moment of fear and then she was OK about it. All went well.

Margaret, Thanks for the heart attack info. I am going to print it and hand it out here at the office.

Joyce IN, I agree about Dancing with the Stars. I also agree about Candice. I like her OK but she doesn’t compare dance wise to the others.

Take care all and have a great day.

    morning all,
going out for a race walk in a few minutes,
we ordered the airline tickets for our grandaughter's ,they are excited, stepmom and dad, are sorta freakin out :frown:
the girls are 12 and 14 and this will be there first flight..
we couldnt see spending almost 1300.00 for 2 round trip non stop tickets , when we got both for 764.00 round trip we have them leaving minnesota at 7:30 at night wont get here until almost 1 in the morning:noway:
it is the shortest flight, they do have to change planes ,but the gates are right near each other and at a smaller airport..
we are planning to take them to New Hampshire.. up to Lake Winnepesauckie(sp) for 4 days to my SIL parents place, we can take the dogs with us.. and then down to Hampton Beach.. they live in Wisconsin and the last time they were at the cottage, Ainsley was really little and Shannen was a baby..so I am sure they will have a ball...

Joyce, on my ipad I just use the internet web site to post, not the app. Not sure you can do it with the app.

Margaret, thanks for posting about the heart attack. When I started having my heart trouble I had the jaw pain, but also pain in my left arm and neck and extreme pressure and tightness in my chest. And it was hard to breathe. Of course, mine wasn't quite a heart attack, but still very scary.

It's supposed to be nice here today, but warmer than normal. We are supposed to hit 87 today. I'm working in the garden a little this morning. I have to try to stay out of the sun because mo my BP meds, so it has to be early morning or late evening.

At 1:00 I am going to my grandson's graduation from preschool. I can't believe they are having an actual graduation from preschool, for Pete's sake! Complete with caps and gowns! Next they'll be having prom in preschool. They already have prom in middle school here. When I was a kid we had one graduation, and that was high school. This is getting ridiculous. But he's excited about it, so I'm going.

    Have a great day!

Hi. I've just seen this message board. Although I've been with mfp for about 18 months, I've only been making a concerted effort for 24 days. ;-) How do I join the group?
