    Dubbed vs Subbed

    Okay anime / foreign flick fans -- queue the arguments for dubbed or subbed

    I'm personally on the subbed only side of things. I can't stand watching a poorly done dub, but will tolerate them if I HAVE to. That's not to say that I haven't seen a good dub.

      Ive never watched a poorly done dubbed one but if I did I'd probably to be on the subbed side of things too. But right now, I'm gonna have to go with dubbed.

      I generally watch both equally. I watch Crunchyroll at night and at lunch. On the commute I watch dubbed that I downloaded from dubbed anime. Also, If i watch a really good series subbed, then I will rewatch it dubbed to pay more attention to the animation and not reading.

      Subbed...but I have seen some poor subtitles. I once remember watching an entire scene with white subtitles against a snowy background. Could barely make out a word.

      Subbed 99% of the time. Though sometimes (Princess Mononoke as an example) the US dubbed dialog has a lot more depth than the original (in this case Japanese) dialogue.

      Mononoke Hime was a brilliant dub. Miyazaki doesn't mess around with his voice actors!

      Subbed all the way, but there are a few dubbed that I strongly prefer-Rurouni Kenshin, FMA, Cowboy Bebop, Big O, basically anything with Steve Blum, Dorothy Ann Elias-Fahn, Crispin Freeman and or Johhny Bosch.

      I haven't watched anything on Toonami recently because of bad dubbing.

      I see this excuse a LOT and I really just don't understand it. I'm sure I'm not the only one that can read the subtitles AND fully enjoy every frame of the show. You only need to glance down for such a short amount of time and just glance back up.

      After watching anime forever half the time I don't even need the subs lol I'm not fluent in Japanese shikashi, watashi wa sukoshi rikai shiite imasu (I realize shiite is misspelled but the word filter keeps blocking SHI - TE)

      I cannot take dubbed seriously. I dont know why. Everything sounds better in japanese + subs. I won't watch dubbed unless it's all that's out there and even then I might go watch something else

      It depends some of them like Ghost in the shell are really well dubbed but for older stuff from the 90s (especially by Manga Entertainment) it's subbed only as it was the worst acting and for normal movies it has to be subbed. Well unless it's a godzilla movie, those are an exception.

      Depends, I usually prefer subbed but if casting is done right then I don't mind dubbed, like for Miyazaki films; they usually do a good job with dub casting.

      Old school shows I watched as a kid are an exception.... I know the dubbings are horrible but for nostalgia's sake I'd watch them dubbed again XD. I'd like to see Sailor Moon subbed all the way through though *pines for a Hulu Plus subscription*

      I definitely prefer subbed, since I haven't experienced good dubbing in anime or dramas. I find dubbing really distracting, but it can be really funny too.

      Subbed. I usually can keep up with the subtitles and what is actually going on at this point. I can't stop laughing at dubs. It sounds really out of place, and I rather hear the intended language. I can also learn some new words in another language also :P so that's a plus.

      When i was younger and studying japanese i definitely preferred subbed. Now that's i'm older and don't really have as much time for that, i like both equally. Sometimes i cringe during certain voice-overs. For example i loved scott mcneil as the original piccolo dub in dbz but after that meeeh :/

      In my opinion, I have never encountered a good quality dub that did not sound weird, so I always go with subs.

      anime = generally dubbed (agreed, some dubs are terrible)
      foreign flicks = subbed

      anime moves too fast for me to read quick enough, and i have a hard time catching who said what. foreign flicks tend to move more slowly, and are easier to do subbed.

      Subbed. I have several CDs of the Japanese opening and closing theme songs for Bleach in my car. On repeat. :bigsmile:
