I prefer cats for sure. I like dogs, well, some dogs. Most dogs I don't like very much, really. But both dogs and cats can be filthy. Dogs moreso, but cats aren't as clean as they pretend to be. If an owner is not diligent about caring for their cat, their home can become very disgusting in no time.

I prefer the nature of cats over dogs. Dogs are pretty needy and unlike cats they don't have much dignity about them. The most dignified dogs are probably working dogs, in other words, very highly trained dogs that had to have an outside force manipulate their nature to something dramatically less offensive. Cats don't need such manipulation. But cats also don't work much either, except as maybe mousers.

I think cats being dignified is also why cat videos and gifs and whatnot are so popular on the internet. Cats having less than dignified moments is hilarious for some reason to many people. Dogs have less than dignified moments is typical. Stupid dog is stupid is not that funny.

I've bonded with both dogs and cats, and boding with a cat is far more valuable to me than bonding with a dog. It means more when a cat trusts you than when a dog trusts you.

and when it comes to being a loyal and loving pet, dogs will win every single time. cats, they just "meh" you pretty much.

Not my sweet boys. They are affectionate and very loving. They greet all visitors for pets and hellos (no hiding, they are very social) then come lay near me.

They cuddle with me every night and greet me at the door for pets and face mashes when I come home from work. The 10 year old loves going on walks, the 3 year old will play fetch until your arm falls off.

My dog is a jerk (shiba inu) doesn't mean I don't love him...just he really can push my buttons and he is known as a "cat dog" meaning he has both personalities!!

Did I mention he is a JERK!

He knows my husband is the softy in the house, because when I correct him in front of my husband which is normally a finger point and a " are you really that stupid?" lol He will get the sad puppy eyes and look at my husband and my husband will tell me to stop being mean..its like WTF, he started it ( remind everyone, I love my dog and he gets SUPER treatment....but he is a JERK!)

Also he went to obedience school as a wee pup and he knows his commands...but when put to the test when he gets told to come when he somehow manages to slip out of his collar...all bets are off as he won't even come to a cookie. :) He spazzes out and jumps on people ( about 20lbs) and will howl at the wall if he is put in his kennel when we have people who come and are scared of dogs..

my dog is a jerk..but I love him <3 (P.S. I think I am a cat and horse person, not a dog person x3, I can love them but can't understand why someone would want one...as my experience is dogs can be HUGE jerks) LOL

To be honest with you I love my dog because she let's me smother her with love. When I tried to do that with my dearly departed cat he would scratch/bite me and run away.

LOL! my cat would take maybe about 3 seconds of love and then would bite the heck out of my arm

I admire cats aesthetically, but they don't really fulfill the same place in my heart as a dog. I don't trust them at all, and their lack of trainability makes them seem more remote and alien, whereas dogs can be trained which seems more like communicating.

Cats all seem like psychopaths to me, which cat people seem to find endearing but I would have a low level of anxiety at all times if I had to live with it. It can be funny sometimes, but if a dog did most of the things cats do, they'd probably have to be put down. I have a healthy respect for cat's unpredictability and enjoy watching their antics, though. I especially like when they crawl into boxes and get stuck, lol. They're more independent, which I think often reads as having more personality, but its really just one kind of personality. If I could have an outdoor cat, I think we'd get much along better.

Dogs are, to me, more stable in demeanor and affection. When I pick my friends, I'm never like "oh, maybe I'll try to befriend the one that bites me at random in the middle of hanging out when we seem like we're getting along. Isn't it cute how sometimes that person just goes psycho and makes me bleed?" I'm more likely to think "Wow, I want to be friends with that person who likes long walks and chilling on the couch eating popcorn."

In all fairness, though, my current dog is an elderly near-mute, so she's not exactly the norm but we are practically made for each other.

    Barking (excessively)
Jumping at or on me (this is especially a pet peeve!)
Slobbering or drooling / licking my leg YUCK!
Dogs tend to smell terrible if they aren't taken care of properly

Anyways, that's the end of my list anyways. Queue the hate :-)

I have both cats and dog

One of my cats "talks" (excessively)
The other cat jumps on me and kneads me constantly, even when I'm trying to work and blocks my monitor then resolves to lie on my keyboard until I am unable to move my fingers
One cat is determined to lick my forehead and hair when I sleep. Sometimes I wake up to a wet mess. YUCK!
The other cat smells. I sing "Smelling Cat" from Friends via Pheobe to her all the time.

But I love them all. Dog and cats because they are just damn funny and give me unconditional love..especially when I have bacon..no matter the species.

Don't blame the dog, blame the owner!

Or the previous owner .. we always have rescues and they often don't come pre-trained - but they often come around with time and love.

I know I'm going to get a lot of hate for this... but I wanted to see if there's anyone out there (especially you cat lovers) that also don't particularly enjoy the company of dogs.

I'm a cat lover. I love their independence, the fact that they are for the most part self-cleaning, light-weight etc.

When it comes to dogs though, I just can't stand being around ones that are especially unruly. The only dog I had growing up was a Pekingese which I loathed with a passion. The damn thing barked at EVERYTHING that moved and crapped anywhere it wanted to.

Anyways, that's not to say that I dislike ALL dogs. Some dogs are very well behaved and I appreciate that very much, I just could never own one.

Some things I particularly dislike about many dogs are

    Barking (excessively)
Jumping at or on me (this is especially a pet peeve!)
Slobbering or drooling / licking my leg YUCK!
Dogs tend to smell terrible if they aren't taken care of properly

We have one cat and one dog. Both are unique and special in their own way. The dog is generally well behaved and the cat ... well, independent is definitely the word... In fact, she was a Ferrell cat that insisted that we were going to be her new owner... Would not trade either of them...
