They do say being in a relationship makes you fat, you eat more. If it wasn't for the relationship, you wouldn't eat more. You should both do MFP and fit your treats in the calories- or be healthy with your cals and have something naughty now and again.0
-
Sorry. Eating too much makes you fat. Not relationships.
Also certain diseases contribute.0 -
sames happened me . if ye both cam eat at the same time . it will make a difference . I found been in a relationship . if I felt hungry and parner ate an hour before . he eat with me again . and same with me I could eat and an hour later my partner would cook something or buy a snack and im eating again . so both partners really have to stick together cook same time ect .0

I was just talking about this last night when I was looking at photos from before the relationship, the beginning of it, and recently. But now he's on MFP too (mostly supportively), so we're both on our way back. It's that stupid happiness binging. 3 years of it apparently.0

Really? you will die if you do Paleo? So far from the truth is is unreal.0

We even incorporate fitness into our sex life (my husband likes when I lift weights nude and dance).
Yes, and with most husbands, you could pretty much substitute 'lift weight's' for any verb you can think of0 -
Not for me. I have been in relationship with my husband for 16 years. I am fit.
I stay fit because it keeps things sexually exciting for both of us.
Our recreation is sex. And we enjoy active recreation such as hiking. We dance.
My husband is a non drinker. I drink very little and was also a non drinker for a decade.
We even incorporate fitness into our sex life (my husband likes when I lift weights nude and dance).
Quoted because...sex O.O
Double quoted because I really love this post.
Ummmm thanks for over sharing

Some of the comments are overgeneralized. I wasn't blaming anyone for my weight gain except me, but lets just be honest.....if I wasn't in a relationship I wouldn't have gained all of this weight.
or, be honest with yourself.... You found him, he found you. You guys fell in love and you didn't have to try anymore, because he loves you for you.

Let me simplify my theory for some of you who just don't get it: Yes, I should have been able to push the plate away...but before my relationship the plate wasn't so frequent and fatty...or even in my space for that matter.0

You are not a victim, choose self responsibility. I hated it when I found this site a year and a half ago and was told I needed self control. I thought if I had any I would not be on here. But now I know they were right the meanies, I now choose to do the hard work and learn some self control. But I feel for you, it is easy to stop taking care of yourself. I did the same thing when I first met my husband. Now junk food is not in my house, no late night eating for me. I like being 45 lbs thinner. I have to thank the meanies here on MFP.0

My relationship is actually one of my biggest motivators. My boyfriend is very fit and has an amazing body, and I'm determined to match...and also, his blatant admiration of all the small changes in my body is extremely encouraging. My own calorie counting has made him more conscious of what he's eating, and my love of veggies has inspired him to broaden his own palette. We've been very good for each other's fitness levels, and I hope that continues well into our dotage.0

I'm smaller now than I was when we first met. Eating too much and not exercising got me fat. My relationship helps me with the confidence that I am worthy to be fit and healthy and that I'm capable of being fit and healthy.0

Yes this is completely true
My wife and I gain weight and lose it again in almost perfect symmetry.
Of course you are responsible for what you eat and how much you exercise, the OP is just saying that environment will be a factor.0 -
You are brilliant! Bravo!0

I got fat in my relationship too.0

Break up. Just kidding. I know what you're saying, I gained 50 after I met my husband. I guess you get comfortable and dating consits of eating out etc. BUT It's the overeating that made us fat. Time to take control. What we do is our choice no matter what.0

I was in the same boat. When I started College - I lost 20lbs in the first few months because of living on my own, cooking for one and low budget. Then, like you, I met my boyfriend. We ate out, romanced, and without knowing it - I was eating IDENTICAL proportions to him. So of course, I gained 70lbs.
Relationships and Depo-provera. Deadly mix.0 -

I got an IUD inserted half way through out relationship. Birth control has probably altered my weight as well.0 -
I can relate to this. Yes the eating more because it becomes part of a way to entertain and connect with each other is a major factor, but so is stress. Relationships are stressful, even when they're great. When they're not great they can be even more stressful!!0

You need to teach a class for people in relationships as more spouses need to adopt this mentality.
Instead of losing weight to get into a relationship, folks need to see the benefit of keeping the weight off to keep the physical-attraction strong throughtout the relationship.0 -

For me it was back to back babies and just being too dang lazy to loose the weight. Thats right I was lazy I know it and I own it. I find its better to be brutally honest with yourself instead of making excuses. My first 7 years with my husband I was in awesome shape. It honestly was being stuck at home with1 baby, then 2, then 3 that I used as my excuse to not lose my baby weight. Own your excuses then push past them... Thats all it is an excuse we all have had them at one point or another.
Good luck..0 -

Thanks! Yeah, that was my point. I do have a strong interest in a healthy excitement in life, and sex is a huge part of that. There are so many factors in how fitness can improve that aspect of life and keep it interesting (for me). Lifting weights or dancing I feel strong, invigorated, flexible. Going through life and enjoying the energy, playfulness, and so many different benefits of fitness keeps me feeling alive and I can bring that into the relationship when we unite at the end of the day. By being fit, our lives together in our long relationship does not get boring. It's like getting a hair cut or wearing a wig or wearing a costume, except it's physical changes that come from continued fitness. We stay feeling young and not old before our time. I know some people see this as over share, but for me I don't see a problem with talking openly about sex and nudity, it's an important aspect of life. I find ways to incorporate fitness into my recreation and enjoyment of life. It's easy to become stagnant. Being active is a mindset that I have actively worked at cultivating.0
