I honestly don't understand why Americans call breakfast ham "Canadian bacon" It's really weird to us Canadians...
We really like to label things that our different or foreign to us. It's what we do.
Like Pittsburgh Sandwiches.....:glasses:0 -
Ohhhh Canada I reported all of you for making fun of my country!!!

and French Fries, which are not from France at all.0 -
Who cares? It's pork. Never ate a pork product that I didn't like. Well, except for Pig's ears. Seemed to have outgrown Pickled Pig's feet , as well.0

Saying better than turkey bacon means nothing. *kitten* is *kitten*.
No No.
All *kitten* is not created equal.

right?
And I stand gratefully corrected.
Edited because I can't figure out quote from reply. :sad:0 -
I might be guilty of making a peameal bacon (what Canadians sometimes call this) club sandwich. peameal, regular bacon…really is there anything better?
peameal on a bun….I think I need to go eat something0 -

This^^ We call it HAM because its HAM. I call it HAM STEAK, because I cut it thicker for breakfast than for a sandwich. I call the sandwich a HAM SANDWICH.0 -

"gotten"
out goes any credibility :P
gotten
NORTH AMERICAN
past participle of get.0 -
They call it Taylor Ham in Jersey. Well, Taylor ham looks like Canadian Bacon.
I like Canadian Bacon/Ham. It's really good and a healthier choice.
I still eat regular bacon. I'm not a savage after all.
I like Canadians, too. Je t'aime bien Canada.
Oh my God how dare you besmirch the good name of Taylor's Ham / Pork Roll by calling it the same as Canadian Bacon!
IT IS NOT THE SAME! :explode:
My dad's family is from Philly so whenever we'd visit them in Philly or NJ (where I was born) we'd load up on Taylor's Ham before we went back home to FL.
A little known fact is that Ambrosia really is Taylor's Ham :bigsmile:0 -
In Australia, bacon is what you call "Canadian Bacon" and the bacon you get in America doesn't exist here, except in rare specialty shops!0

This makes me sad for Aussies, regular Bacon is the best!0 -

I love the bacon we have here, but there's so much you can't do with it..0 -
I don't believe it should be called bacon.
Bacon is that delicious, crispy, greasy, albeit unhealthy breakfast meat that makes delicious sandwiches and is even good dipped in chocolate.
Canadian bacon is a breakfast meat that makes eggs Benedict complete. That is all.0 -
Canadian Bacon has been a favorite of mine for over 60 years! Might be a Buffalo NY/Fort Erie Ontario thing. We won't even get into the Canadian idea of a 'salad' until about 30 years ago! Oh - nutrition aside, it is WAY better than Turkey Bacon0

In the UK "Canadian Bacon" is called back bacon and "US bacon" is called streaky bacon.
We normally go for Back in a sandwich or for breakfast and streaky as a accompaniment like on chicken, or sausages at Christmas.0 -

Canadian Bacon is cut only from the loin, which back bacon can be cut from, but not always.0 -
Where does it fit into the bacon discussion? Is it better than turkey bacon?
What is it? Bacon made from Canadians? It probably is a better substitute for pig bacon than turkey bacon would be seeing as humans and pigs are omnivorous, not very hairy mammals of a fairly similar size while turkeys are birds. And most cannibals say that "long pig" tastes like regular pig, hence the name "long pig"0 -

Yeah, we don't have "Canadian bacon" in Canada, it's an American thing....0 -
I'm Canadian, born and bred and I never knew it as "Canadian bacon", it's peameal bacon and I've never been very fond of it. Too salty for my taste. It's definitely not ham, ham is dee-lish! Not sure what you Americans are calling Canadian bacon, but if you think it's ham, then maybe you really have no idea what it is?0
