I hate Weekends!!!

We tend to eat or order out and have a lot of social activities. Friday it was golf with about 6 lite beers. Saturday - I did workout in the AM - but then it was poolside with about 6 lite beers, jalapeno cheddar brats (2) for lunch and then meat pizza for dinner. Sunday - no workout - left over pizza and then about 6 beers sitting poolside. A couple sweet treats too.

I feel like I am 10 lbs heavier today. It is difficult to get away from social activities because it is what we do ever weekend. We have about 10 close families in our neighborhood and we are always hanging out together.

Do I need to just go into hiding until I reach my goal and not be social?

Yeah typical. I, too, hate weekends. This past weekend (with Father's Day) ruined my awesome losses over the past week. Oh well. It's a new week. Keep at it!

If you can't socialise without alcohol, it's not the socialising that's the problem. Just saying...
  • Just show some of that self restraint, you could have made a more health consciousness lunch and got a salad instead of pizza. Then got up early Sunday to fit that work out in, its all about dedication and self restraint. Weekends yes should be a time to let loose a little, but it doesn't have to be with food and copious amounts of alcohol.

You don't need to have 6 beers at a time? I find that I can manage 2-3 per day and still hit my goals if I work out.

Try alternating beer and water. Even if you could get down to 2 or three beers every time you just said 6 beers it would make a difference.

weekends are the biggest reason why I did not maintain in the past and I'm back up in weight again. I'm more active on the weekends so I would load up on food, drinks and appetizers. I was on a losing streak since December but weekends are my biggest downfall. This past weekend it was good to be back on track. I'm away most weekends so it's very challenging.

18 beers in one weekend. Assuming those are cans of, let's say Bud Light, that's about 2000 calories in the form of alcohol. This is why I'm glad I don't have much interest in drinking. It's just pointless calories. 6 beers probably isn't enough to get you drunk or even buzzed, so I just don't see the point. But hey, you like beer, so there's no need to completely cut it out. However, I don't think it would be that hard to only have a couple of beers instead of 6 in a sitting. Your food intake doesn't seem all that bad - my intake on weekends in higher, too, but it all evens out when I stay under my weekly goal (which I do 3 out of 4 weekends per month).

Bottom line: You don't have to guzzle down 18 beers in a weekend in order to be "social."

Guinness has less calories than lite beer anyway. :)

I blow up my calories every weekend. I just eat much smaller during the week. I do a weekly calorie goal and then divide it up according to my weekend needs of beer, hamburgers, and whatnot. That said, I did have a fail this weekend......went over maintenance for the week, but that rarely happens.

Yes, 18 beers of craft beer (high alcohol content) and you would still be passed out in an alley. Beer is an important part of my life (we make our own at home and I volunteer at local beer fests that raise money for charity. It all depends on type of beer and how much on a weekend. 18 is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than normal. A better more quality beer = you drink less.

Yeah, I was doing this for a while too but it has to stop (for me personally) I was going nuts on weekends (often we were away). I need to stay level through the weekends to continue to see improvement.

I am right where you are. I seem to do this most weekends. I figure, I can work each weekend on staying a little more on track than the previous. It's baby steps. It's a process. You just get up and fix yourself on Monday and start over.

Thanks - another issue is my Y is only open on Sundays from 12-5 and I usually workout in the morning. I kinda use Sunday as my rest day. Good advice on the beer. I am trying to drink more water at social events. Six lite beers is a big improvement from what I use to drink. I would drink 8-12 beers (not always lite beer) during our weekend social events and eat until I became uncomfortable.

I have the same issue on weekends. My gym closes early and all of my homework is due on weekends. I prefer to get everything done first and then hit the gym but the hours are off.

Hiding until you lose the weight won't be doing yourself any favors. What will you do when you reach your goal? Start up with the same habits when you were overweight? You'll just gain it back. You need to learn how to hang out with your friends and family and eat in drink in moderation. I live in a similar neighborhood, you just have to pick and choose which nights you can indulge, and which you need to cut it back some. Friday night I hung out and drank, went to a corner bar and got some food, Saturday night I hung out with everyone and didn't drink and ate something at home.

I hate beer, so I'm no expert, but I was specifically referring to a light beer like Bud Light or Miller Light. All I know is my husband has to drink about 10 Bud Lights before he's tipsy and he's only 5'9" 156 lbs and drinks very seldomly. For a bigger guy like the OP that clearly drinks often, I doubt he was passed out in any alley.

I know how you feel.. weekends are also my danger zone. This past weekend I fell off the food wagon again... had Jimmy Johns and Donatos and junk food. I don't know why I can't control myself on weekends.

But I am not going to cry over spilled milk. I'm moving on, I'm right back on the plan and lesson learned.. next weekend I will try to do whatever it takes to keep on the plan. I figure I'll never succeed if I don't keep trying.

Aaah yes, the weekends! They suck! Especially ones like this past one where there was not one, but four desserts at our Father's Day/my son's 10th birthday party! Fortunately, I told myself I would only pick my favorite but I do have pieces of the other two in the fridge for this week if it fits into my day!

If you are already starting to cut back, then keep that up! It really is all about baby steps! Maybe next week, shoot for 5 beers each day. Or shoot for five on one of the 3 days... and work your way down. Like others have said, too, if you know you are going all out during the weekend, work on eating better throughout the week so you have a little more give on the weekends.

But my thought and experience is, you will feel MUCH better come Monday morning if you drink less! You can do this... slow and steady!

Great job on your loss so far

Don't hate the weekends, they do after all come once a week!

I'd look at it this way, we're all grown adults and there will always be temptation to eat high calorie foods and drink on the weekend. As grown adults we have a choice of what goes into our mouths and how we conduct ourselves. Just because you order a pizza for the kids doesn't mean you need to have 4 slices of it, and it also just because there's beer at a social gathering doesn't mean you need to drink it.

    I'd do this,

    1. Weekends aren't going anywhere, they are here to stay. Try practicing a weekly calorie goal and save up calories for the weekend. If you tend to have better eating habits during the week and keep doing that. That will give you more flexibility to eat pizza and drink beer once in a while on the weekends.

    2. Realize your human and allow yourself to have a little fun once in a while. Yes, that means have beer and pizza, have a margarita too once in a while! This diet you are allowed to be human, give yourself a break once in a while.

Once you reach your goal you'll have to maintain while being social. Imo it's best to lose weight in the manner in which you hope to live after you reach goal. I've been in maintenance for over 18 months now. This past weekend we went camping and I'm certain I was over my TDEE both days (it was my first logging break in a year so I'm not exactly sure how much). Today I'm just going back to business as usual.

What I have done before that might help you is to maintain a deficit that's 100 calories more than I need during the week. So for me, I maintain on 2100 calories. So I'd eat 2000 Monday through Friday. Then on Saturday or Sunday I've got an extra 500 calories to "spend" on social gatherings.

I was actually thinking of seeing if anyone on here would want to be a 'text buddy" for the weekends. Meaning that when I feel my resolve weakening on weekends I can text my buddy for support and they can do the same to me. No phone calls, just texting.

What time does the road in front of your home open? And once you reach goal do you go back to drinking beer or will you recognize socially you can start with water, have a beer, have water, well you get the point. Make small changes and recognizing your habits are the best way to change for the life ahead, so you can leave the life you had behind you.

I agree with the calorie "Zig- Zag" theory. Try alternating your daily calorie intake to allow some indulgence on the weekends 8), One thing I know is that beer use to make me feel bloated whether it was 1 or 10 LOL

First I was making a joke about the alley. Quality over quantity when it comes to beer. The local brew is going to cost more but you get more bang for your buck and less calories. You don't see people chugging really powerful beer. :)

    I have the same issue.

    The struggle is real.

I'm away 2-3 weekends per month and we do things we would not normally do during the week. Happy hour is a BIG problem. I want to eat everything that's not nailed down while out on a beautiful deck or on someone's boat. Or after a day spent hiking. I'm super active on weekends and I don't even bother to log. It's a slippery slope and I'm trying to scramble back up.

Weekends can make or break the MFP plan and I will say I lost weight when I actually bothered to log on weekends. :)
