Yes this is making me hungry too

That pizza place sounds great, just not sure I want to bother with the subway that time, and the kids will be starving. I'll keep that in mind for next time though.

you can always jump in a deli to get them a quick snack to tide them over.

but now that i think about it, how old are the kids? are they picky eaters? i mean, you'll probably be better off going to a deli or a pizza place, or a sandwhich place.

and the what is "that time" for the subway? the subway is only super crowded in the morning, and later in the afternoon, for rush hour. middle of the day it's pretty easy to get on and off.

and unwritten rule is that if the kid can duck under the turnstile, they don't have to pay.... just don't be too obvious.

They're 6 and picky eaters, yeah, lol. I like the idea of that cafe that sells pizza and sandwiches. That would work. I'll just have to resist the cheesecake.

  • There are Deli's everywhere you can get salads, sandwhiches made the way you like them. Bricco in hells kitchen by time square has everything gluten free which is a bit healthier. If you can you go to places that have 3+ spots in the city. Out here with chains even if they are small, they are required to put calorie counts on everything which I wish the west coast would do. Splerge a little, because you will walk off and gain lots of calories you can eat. put it in the cardio section and track your time walking a slow pace. As a nurse, I get about an extra 1000 calories a day just from walking. Pick one meal a day to do guilt free, and pick up veggies off street vendors and visit our many delis and you should find you're not going over, and if you do, not by much!!

They have to have a certain amount of locations for that law to apply. I found that out when I went to Bare Burger and asked about calories and the waitress said since they only have like 6 locations it doesn't apply to them.

I believe I remember being told it's 15 locations and over.

    oooooh, okay. makes sense.

and dude, bare burger is delicious.

I know they are chains and tourist trappy but I am a tourist! I go to New York for shows at least twice a year and understand not wanting to leave the area... There is a TgiFridays, ruby tuesdays and Bubba gump shrimp that should have healthy and kid friendly options

nope - don't eat at McDonald's... remember I am Canadian so your chains are not available here... I often am eating alone - so I like the fact that the waiters at Bubba Gump's will stop and ask you pop quiz questions about the movie... there is a decent salad bar at Ruby Tuesdays and I find I can get lost easily in the crowd at TGI Friday's...

Planet Hollywood is where me and my family ate on our first trip to NYC. Well first non-mission trip. When dad was first dating stepmom and we travelled to meet the family. Was AWESOME and really cool experience.

Other "tourist" restaurants family friendly -

    Ruby Foos
Ellens Stardust Diner - over priced, but fun for the kids.

Someone recommended BlueFin which is good, but pricey.

We ended up going to Un deux trois café. It was good and I got to have some cheesecake... Although it wasn't made with cream cheese. What is NY cheesecake usually made of?

It sorta had the consistency of ricotta or cottage cheese. It was different from what I'm used to, but quite good.
  • Saw this late but, if you can, get out of Times Square-- it's the worst and least authentic area in the city. Just terrible.

As a native, I would say don't eat anywhere around Times Square! If you head west to Hell's Kitchen, I love Pio Pio at 44th and 10th, Briciola at 51st and 9th

For good cheesecake, I say go to the Upper East Side to 2 Little Red Hens

    Exactly.

For cheesecake, there is Junior's close by Times Square and they're pretty good.
