What happened to number 4?
I will respectfully disagree on number 3. I had one for 7 years and he did wonders for me.
The one I would like to see go away isn't a myth. Its the OP who keeps creating new profiles every couple of days and posts a dozen or so times in about 10 minutes selling Tarot card reading or other nonsense. Its the same post copy and pasted over and over. The title always includes the international calling number. And he/she always shows up around midnight EST in the US.
I don't think the poster meant you.
You mean I can't lose weight through the dark art of magically transferring fat from my belly to the belly of someone I hate? Which, if they did promise that in their list of 'products' would at least be relevant.0 -

Yes. I can't believe I'm still hearing garcinia cambogia (whatever) commercials referencing him.
Adding "if you can't pronounce it, you shouldn't eat it." I was actually a victim of this one for a while. *hangs head* Damn you Breyers commercials! Someone said it perfectly (in another thread) when they said this just means I didn't take a science class.0 -

Is Fairuza Balk anti-protein? I don't understand. Is this a witch thing? Witches need love too.0 -

What are the top fitness/nutrition myths you would like to straight up murder?
Mine:
1. Spot reduction/toning
2. Carbs are bad and evil like satan
3. Cleanse/detox. My favourite is the coffee enema because we all know shoving a double espresso up your *kitten* will totally clean your liver.
1 &2 are not myths for every one. Pro athletes do 1&2 all the time. Ofcourse 2 is not aplicable to every one but Arnold Schwarzeneggar talks about 1. & 2 a lot. It's the bro science which calls them myth. I lost 11 inches of my waist in 3 months doing 1&2.0 -

Never eat 1200 calories! It's far too little - no, no, who cares that you're a naturally petite person, are under 100 pounds, and under 5'.0

I like this thread.

I'd add some health myths as well, since these are all pseudo medicine and woo.
01. Oil Pulling
02. Homeopathy
03. Chiropractic
05. Feng Shui
06. Naturopathy
07. Pretty much all "Eastern Medicine"
08. Acupuncture
09. Chelation "Therapy"
10. The Pro-Disease, anti-vaccination crowd of celebs like Jenny McCarthy
All of that is crap and in some cases dangerous.
Partially agree, although I think chiropractors can be really bad or really good. Depends on the person you see, since I had a chiropractor who I realized was basically a scam artist, but now I have a chiropractor who actually figured out the reason for my migraines which countless specialists and head scans couldn't figure out. He's taught me ways of keeping my joints aligned myself so my chronic pain is better.
Have you considered the reason why you're given exercises for your back is to treat the underlying cause and not treat the symptom?
And if you think Chiro like M.D. hold "strange ideas" then why bother to see any of them? You clearly think the pool is poisoned.0 -

The standard BMI calculator tells me that as a 6'0" male that I need to look like an Auschwitz prisoner at 135-150 lbs to have a "normal" body. Um, sorry pal, that ain't normal, and that ain't healthy. I looked like a stick in high school and I was 158 lbs.
As a young adult I bicycled 50 miles a day, was in perfect health, and weighed 185 lbs, which is "overweight" according to the BMI calculator. I don't know who came up with that garbage, but it is not based on any reality for a person with normal musculature. I believe the standard BMI calculator is deceiving people into losing both fat and muscle that is in fact healthy for them.0 -
If you eat less your body will hold on to fat.
WAIT!!!! This isn't true?0 -

When people say that muscle weighs more than fat.
NO, IT DOESN'T!!!! 1kg of muscle weighs EXACTLY THE SAME as 1kg of fat, it's the surface area that is the difference!!!! BAH!
When people say that I feel like it's more an error in phrasing than an actual myth. The thought behind it is right, it's just worded in a nonsensical manner.
Agreed. I think that everyone understands this but just likes to argue about it.0 -

To cut fat you go low carb, simple. That's what pros do including guys who compete in competitions. Read books of great body builders like Reg park, Arnold Schwarzeneggars. Talk to NFL coaches, they will tell you the same. You can spot reduce but it many not be common. Calling it a myth is short sighted. I am glad I got to work with some pro coaches not bro coaches. When a guy in NFL wants to get ready for season showing up over weight, his coach is not going to tell him hey you can't drop those fat in 2 months are get that tummy out. They do it with a focused diet and training . Regarding second point most obese patients have insulin resistance, which causes the body to store more fat with carbs.0 -
No eating after 8p.m.
Calories can't tell time.
They can't. :flowerforyou:
I eat after 8pm most days. :ohwell:
I get home from zumba at 8pm and generally have supper cooked and ready to go by 9pm! Then I go to bed like 2 hours later. Hasn't messed with my loss yet!"Exercises for women", (2.5 pink dumbbells included)
To be fair, I have the 2lb pink dumbells:laugh: . And the 3lb purple ones. Just moved up to the 5lb black ones. Everyone has to start somewhere :blushing: But! Absolutely agreed on the stupid idea that a) you get your little dumbbells because you're a *woman* or b) they're going to do anything for you (other than give your weak arms a chance to move up, which they have for me), is ridiculous.
I'm echoing the 'you have to eat breakfast'. Most days I get my 'breakfast' in at around 1 or 2pm, then have a protein bar or some veggies for 'lunch' around 5, then a big-*kitten* supper after 8pm, as I noted. I eat in a 7ish hour window. Again, hasn't messed me up at all. Also, eating clean/death to sweeteners. I had a friend who is even bigger than I was at my heaviest preach to me about having a Splenda in my coffee (the coffee I have, like, twice a week max) and how it's going to ruin my health :grumble:
I'll add(and this will not be popular): that cardio is evil. Obviously, for retaining muscle, you need strength training. But some people do cardio because they ENJOY it, and it gets/got them moving. When I was obese in the beginning (January:laugh:), a little bit of Leslie Sansone videos was all I could do. Now, I'm learning to run because I love it, and doing zumba every single chance I can get because it's my most fun hour of the day . I'm also getting into strength training for all the obvious reasons - that's where fat loss and muscle retention (not gaining, as I'm eating at a deficit), and strength come from. But cardio isn't as evil as so many seem to make it out to be. I mean, if you don't enjoy it, that's fine. But don't write it off for everyone else.0 -
