    Ha! I've only seen that as a last name - well, Jacques, but close - and it was pronounced like "Jakes."

    Sure you can. There's no law (just a tradition) that says you have to give your children the same last name as the parents.

    A friend of mine has the last name Woodc0ck, but his kids last name is Woods. He didn't want them to get teased like he was as a child.

    Nope as in a student a friend of mine had in Grade 9 french. she called he Jaques expecting a French boy, got a sassy remark from the lady whose name it belonged to.

    Ross is one of my favorite names ever... probably because it's my uncle's name and he's the coolest guy I know.

    At my Grandmother's funeral some of our older relatives brought us the Sessions family tree and Ross was a recurrent name. I liked the name as well as it's connection to our family history. So many Ross Van Sessions' in our like. lol

    Since when is Connor a hipster name? I know a guy in his 40's named Connor.

    I really like names typically used for the opposite gender. Like Shannon for a boy or Ashton for a girl. My husband isn't a huge fan of that, so we probably won't do that with our kids.

    My husband and I had set baby name rules. No last names for first names, no gender ambiguous names, and no weird spellings. Names also have to look good on a job application.

    I mean, naming a baby Kyleigh when she's two years old is cute, but I would have trouble taking that person seriously when they are 30.

    Oh, and don't name your son something that ends in "son" or "ton." That goes along with the last name rule, but I swear I have friends that have all named their sons Braxton, Carson, Coleton, and Preston. All it does is make you kid sound like they go to prep school.

    I love the name Gemma.

    I've always been a huge "names person" mainly because of writing. Some of my favorites:

    Male - Seth, Todd, Micah, Karl, Julian

    Female - Gwendolyn, Claudia, Meredith, Jill, Gillian, Berit, Inger

    As someone who was named after a grandmother and great grandmother, I go by an off the wall high school nickname(at 27 still using this name-Josie) Don't do that to your child... Give them at least one name that is their own! I may have went too far with my daughter, but her name is definitely her own..

    Really? I always imagined kids with names like have full names like Winston Scott McKenzie the third, or and their daddies set them up with a trust fund. Couple that with the fact that all these moms I know that name their kids that are from rural America and it's twice as silly to me. Hehe.
