In my office, not only do people cut donuts in half (including me, usually because I'm cutting another donut in half to have a whole donut of 2 different favors, but I digress) I have seen donuts cut in quarters and sometimes eighths. I have yet to hear anyone complain. As long as there's donuts, people are happy.
mmmmmm donuts.0 -

We do this where I work all of the time. I cut one in half and leave the other half for someone else who wants it. No big deal. As a matter of fact usually someone leaves a knife right by the box of donuts because so many of us only eat half of one anyway.0

ditto for my building. "anyone coming back for this sliver of a donut? no? then I'm eating it!" << most often used phrase in my office.0 -
I'm going to assume that judgmental person was just trying to be funny by making such a low-quality joke. I personally will cut a donut in half if that's all I want. Hell, I even get excited if there's already half of a donut of a certain type that I like!0

The office I worked in would get a dozen assorted donuts weekly (gifted by clients or from a coworker). Considering there were about 20 of us, it was just a matter of cause that the donuts got split (usually in 1/4ths). Some of us wanted to try a couple different flavors, others only wanted a smaller portion, some wanted none, etc.
Nobody minded, and everyone who wanted a treat got what they wanted. C'mon people! We made do with less back in the day, and everyone was happy, dangit:laugh: . Those who weren't were polite enough to STFU.0 -
The person who made that comment sounds like they're projecting their issues to you. LIke they can't resist the entire donut, so better tease or put down the person who can.
I personally, however, do not eat the donuts that have been cut in half when it happens at work because I don't like the thought of the donut being manhandled by someone else before I eat it.
I was going to bring this up. A lot of people have issues about their food being touched.
Which has always struck me as funny. How do people think food is made?
Hah, I have no idea why I feel this way about donuts. I'm not typically a "germs are so scary guyz" person. It's just something about cutting in half donuts and pastries and leaving them there. It's just not my thing, but I don't have a reason for it lol
With donuts I get it. If someone is grabbing them and mashing them I wouldn't want to eat that half either.
Then again never in my life have I wanted HALF a donut...
I think the thing that gets me about other people touching my food is being witness to guys using the bathroom and then not washing their hands. So yeah it concerns me that someone else touched something thats about to go in my mouth.
Am I overthinking? Probably. But in this instance I dont mind.

Oh my. Now I all I can think about is donuts! In our office there are always half donuts. It is all good.0

I don't like wasting food, either, but I'm really not gonna stress out over half a donut. It's not like I can personally give that donut to a starving kid, is it?0

Someone in my office building only eats the top part of a muffin and leaves a bunch of sad muffin bottoms for the rest of us peasants..........0

I agree and do the same thing all the time. It doesn't make sense to eat the whole thing if you don't want it. That is wasteful. It about portions and being healthy. Just because you could burn off the calories later, doesn't make the additional sugar and fat from the other half any better for your body.0

huh?

But someone commented that such people are being *kitten* or probably need to eat the entire donut and climb extra stairs to burn the calories.
Your coworker is projecting their own guilt from seeing others clearly able to moderate their intake and enjoy it. They would probably not believe me if I told them I don't typically like donuts AT ALL! Unless it is one of three specific types, I'll pass by them without effort or regret.
Also, I have worked with people who care about the "touching of food" thing but still prefer donut halves. What they do is use little napkins to hold the side of the donut while the knife cuts it (careful not to squish the topping, of course). They helpfully leave the napkin still kind of wrapped around the half so other similarly squeamish folk know that half is safe.0 -
Or, I don't want to eat food someone I don't know has touched.
Yeah yeah, cafeteria workers, chefs, blah blah.
Still not gonna go for a cut in half donut!0 -
There's a spot reserved in hell for donut cutters :devil:0

OP - you take half and I'll take half. You can even cut if you want.
Edit because now I have donuts and bacon on the brain.0 -
didn't read anything, but in for donuts0

I don't do this because some people are so anal about it. If I want half - I'll ask another person if they'd like to share half with me. Otherwise, I just won't touch it or will eat an entire donut.
If I want a donut, I'll eat a donut and I, like others before me, will work out a little harder or cut down on a meal to make up for it. In this day and age of germs, diseases and general weirdness going on, it's just not acceptable anymore (IMHO). :flowerforyou:0 -

DANG! Now I want one of those - never seen one before - but I WANT ONE!0 -
and this is why it's great that I don't work in an office building setting with co-workers brining in goodies!.... If I were faced with donuts at work all the time, I'm pretty sure that you'd find me under my desk eating the whole box! Whether or not I cut them in half first, well, that would be irrelevant.0

That's disgusting >:(... The knowledge of this muffin-stump abandoner is a burden on my soul. Find them and destroy them.0 -

I would try it for science.0 -

That looks beyond disgusting.
But probably doesn't taste half bad.0 -
I do it all the time, though I've seen some people cut a jelly donut in half....was a sad mess
I would do that, see two jelly donuts, cut each in half, so the jelly pocket was on one side, just the donut dough on the other.
I'd then take both jelly pockets. It sparked off a helluva shouting spate the first time someone discovered it, so I took some pictures of me with the jelly pocket sides, and fired off an all staff email.
It was amusing.0 -
Who cut the cheese.... danish?0

I will confess to being one of those people who does not like donuts or whatnot being cut up and left (unless you are sharing). In my office those generally get left and thrown out later in the day.
I will bring in treats for occasions (cookies, muffins, whatnot) and you take a whole because if you leave a half I will throw it out...I am a pretty good baker (until our building got locked down I had former co-workers who would still come over for treats) so normally people don't try that.
I apologize for my spelling. Half consumed food gives me the vapors.0
