After my ex left, I realised I was less stressed and started putting myself first for a change and so far I have now started eating healthier food and have lost 4.5 stone so far.
In an immature way, when I pick up my daughter, I do secretly like the fact that my ex has possibly put on the same amount of weight in fat though, childish I know.0 -
Same as most here. I have a bad habit of ending up in a relationship with someone because they have immense self image and security issues. Apparently I make a good security blanket. Eventually I had to decide that divorce was the only course of action to save my own life and the few people I had left in my life that I cared about. Then sadly enough those few relationships went south because of yet more drama and security issues about me finally being free. I am not into huge social groups so the few people I have around me I love immensely. After losing, what felt like, everything I had to find an outlet or be overwhelmed emotionally. So I turned to weight training to wear myself out physically as well as emotionally. I am still learning the right way to do things. But I know that regret and anger at one self can be a huge motivator for making massive change. I know I look better. I do not feel it emotionally. However, I am moving in a positive direction finally.0

I'm going through a divorce and I haven't been this on track EVER!! Anyone else having focused success changing their lives after a break-up?
This is truly the happiest I've been in a really, really long time!
Been there and done that, sorry to hear you have to go through it.
Short term, you can use the divorce to motivate you to get in shape but at some point it has to be about wanting to make yourself better and not about making him jealous/sorry he left/etc.
Stay smart, eat right, and don't overtrain and you'll be fine. It really does feel like a weight off your shoulders when you finally sign the papers.
@BostonWolf LOL! you've misunderstood... I have ZERO intentions of making him jealous or saying "look what you're missing out on" it's ALL ABOUT me getting my life on track in everywhere possible. I do agree fitness should never be about "getting back at someone" tho... so thanks for the concern but not even close to that.
Awesome....continue to kick major *kitten* and go about your business, in that case!0 -
My ex left me while I was still breastfeeding our second baby in two years, because "You are everything I wanted in a woman; kind, loving, sweet... but you just aren't attractive enough for me". I weaned the baby when she turned a year and lost the 30lbs of baby weight in 6 weeks once my hormones shifted a couple of weeks later. I am now another 15lbs smaller than that and look better than I ever have (even when we first started dating)
and he is getting fat, and my boyfriend is amazingly sweet, kind, good looking, so much taller, and makes 3 times more money than him..... so yeah, I win. His dumping me was the best thing for me personally. My kids suffer, but I do that best I can.
Great job, Jen. And I'm sure in a few years the kids are going to start to realize EXACTLY what the deal was between you and their dad, and they will appreciate you even more at that point.0 -
My fiancé of 3 years left me December of 2012 (turned out to be the best Xmas present ever).
I've since accomplished the following:
*Quit smoking tobacco
*Quit diet soda (was drinking this all day; every day - now occasionally drink a Zevia)
*Quit coffee (turns out this was a major contributor to my anxiety attacks - still occasionally have a cup or something fancy at the coffee shop once a month)
*I've been eating much healthier (no more fast food every day - yeah, I was sick all the time because this was all we ate)
*I've lost 22 pounds
*I'm finally starting to get my business off the ground, and have had features on Cosmopolitan (their website, not their magazine) and Buzzfeed
*My anxiety has eased up significantly
*My blood sugars are under better control
this is great, I can relate, I was married for 26 years, kicked him out in 2009 - it was the toughest thing I ever did, but the best thing ever - I should have done it so much sooner. I went on to quit Smoking also and lost 30 pounds in a few months, then went on to lose another 50 over the next year. I'd like to quit diet coke but not sure how - any suggestions?. I don't drink tea or coffee so only water and diet coke. (too many diet cokes).
Meanwhile, last year I met a great guy who loves to cook, so have added back 30 of those pounds, which is why I'm back here - would love to quit those DC's though.0 -
Ever heard of the saying "Divorce looks good on you"

To kick diet soda, I switched to juice in the mornings for a while (before I started focusing on weight loss), and chai tea with coconut milk and brown sugar.
When I started paying attention to calories, I cut out the juice and started drinking just plain tea with nothing in it. Now I mostly drink a plain glass of tea in the morning, water throughout the day, and the occasional Zevia Root Beer.0 -

Yup am the same, separated from hubby in January, my divorce will be finalised within the next 4 weeks and I have lost 3st 5lbs since I got rid of him. I am in another relationship and extremely happy. Actually met the guy on here Getting rid of that waste of a space of an ex has been the best thing I have ever done. It spurred me on to shift the weight.
Hope all goes well for you0 -
This is totally my story. My ex broke it off 1 month shy of 6 years. And 10 days after a new year long lease started.
The first 28 lbs were stress and anxiety over the living situation and the following 30 have been all me putting in the work and becoming insanely awesome.0 -
I have an interesting story for this one, but I'll keep it as short as possible. I was with a guy for 3 years and after going through a lot of things together (including health-related on my part), I gained about 40 pounds. Well, after gaining the first 20, I noticed he was preferring porn and looking at really skinny girls on fb over me (along with some other websites...even if I looked at lingerie, he couldn't control himself when it came to the photoshopped images and if a celebrity photo "leaked", he was right on it). This made me feel like crap and like I'd never find anyone else since I was so "fat and ugly", so I stayed with him and with depression, gained the last 20.
Finally, I got tired of his crap. He was staying out all of the time and when he was home, his friends would bring over the skinny, big-busted girls they were seeing and he was staring them up and down and giving them soo much attention while ignoring me (like HELLO I was sitting right there while this was going on). I asked him to go upstairs and I told him that it was over.
Fast-forward to my next relationship. Decent guy and average-looking, but seemed sweet. We lasted a year. This is who I was with when I started getting serious with MFP. I logged everyday and lost a significant amount of weight (2 pant sizes). He started cheating on me AFTER I lost the weight, so I got depressed. He finally told me it was over and I got a place of my own, where I fell off the MFP wagon for a bit. Lost my job and had to move in with family...no more place of my own.
Now, I still live with family, but have a job and an AMAZING boyfriend who puts up no fronts. He is completely honest with me and treats me better than I've ever been treated. This guy makes me feel like I'm the most beautiful woman in the world (and I've seen some of his skinny, big-breasted ex's that I'll admit, I'm a little jealous and wonder how I even compare to them) and I'm back with MFP both to make myself healthier and to be better for him (he is sexy, career-minded, and encourages me daily to be the best I can be and I do the same for him...we grow together).
This is the shortest version I could put on here lol. Anyway...now, I am losing weight and can tell it from the way my clothes fit and have had that first ex ask me to go back to him, but I refuse after all he's put me through (besides, he has no job and no ambition...a total zero). I have the guy I want and am getting healthy0
