Any suggestions on how to kick start my metabolism? Not loosing weight, in fact gaining: (. I am having to force myself to eat more and I am struggling to get to 1200 as when exercising you have to eat more. I try to eat more protein, cut back on carbs and sugar. I drink 2 litres of water a day, drink coffee with just milk and green tea. I have started to drink a quartervofva glass of soy milk a few times a day. Help..

If your metabolism stopped, you'd be dead.0

I doubt it has stopped. If you're really that worried, I'd suggest talking to your doctor, a nutritionist, and making sure to weight and measure everything. Also, maybe you're eating back too many calories.0

I'm impressed you get cell reception from your casket- I got into the basement and I can't send anything!!!0

It sounds like your appetite has dropped, which doesn't necessarily correlate with a decrease in metabolism. Sometimes our hunger cues just get knocked out of whack by things like low-calorie periods or heavy exercise, but it doesn't mean that your metabolism is changed.
Look for more calorie dense foods to add to your day. They'll add more calories without making you eat a lot more food. Things like cheese, nuts, peanut butter, olive oil, coconut oil, butter, full fat dairy, Greek yogurt, dark chocolate, ice cream, sugar in your tea or honey, protein shakes & smoothies, avocado, etc.0 -
Your info says you have 11 lbs to go. Weigh and measure everything and don't give up! When you have less weight to lose it takes longer and when you just start exercising it takes a bit before your body adjusts and retaining water is a way of protecting you. Patience and good things will happen!0

I get what you meant. I'm a slow metabolism kinda gal, myself, so I don't need a lot of calories to sustain my low activity lifestyle. I'm working off 10 pounds that snuck up on me this summer, which then became 12 pounds -- yikes! I'm generally pretty lazy, but I do find that regular exercise -- for me that's a leisurely bike ride or an afternoon hike -- does really help get the old body jumpstarted again. You don't have to kill yourself in the gym for 2 hours; just get out and do something on a regular basis, for at least 30 minutes, at least every other day. It's the regularity of it that finally wakes up your body.
That's my two cents.0 -

Yeah....that right there. RIP OP :flowerforyou: You will be deeply missed.
ETA: Just checked out your diary. Some days you have 17 grams of protein. For an entire DAY. The average looks to be about 50 grams a day. That would be fine and all if your target bodyweight was about 60lbs.
Heres a list of simple things you can add that should help you get to your goal.

This isnt all inclusive, I am not saying you need to eat these things. This is to give you an idea of what kinds of things to have to increase not only protein but carbs n fats as well but mostly with the protein macro in mind.0 -
So,,,, you're dead?!0

Your metabolism cannot stop. If it did, your body would not convert food into glycogen, ATP, fat, etc and you would die within hours or even minutes.0

truth, I'm pouring one out for the fallen homie.0 -

Heh... yeah... so this.
Anyway, on the subject of not losing weight....
Are you weighing all of your food? If not, you're probably eating more (calories) than you think.
Weigh your food, log consistently and accurately, and you should begin to see some headway.
If you're not losing weight on 1200 calories after doing that, then it's time to visit the doctor... or morgue... whichever is more appropriate.0 -
Well not sure if this will help, but your protein is way to low, some days you have logged 30 grams or less, you are more likely to lose lean body mass than fat with those macros. While you continue to shed lean body mass, you will also be lowering you basal metabolic rate. I would fix your protein issue first, that should help.0

Agree with other posters, your protein is too low. Try mini meals throughout the day. Protein shake? Are you lifting weights? Build muscle. Vary your cardio. Increase your protein. I don't eat meat either, so feel free to look at my diary.0

The statement "I am struggling to get to 1200" is concerning for numerous reasons, like how did you get overweight being unable to consume 1200cals a day without difficulty, and that you are most probably starving yourself in an attempt to lose quickly or as previously mentioned logging inaccuracies. All the things i just mentioned are one form or another of self sabotage.

I truly am struggling to eat1200 and I do exercise a lot. My metabolism has been up in the air since doctor put me on mini pill. Could only take it for 2 months as was bleeding all the time and having migraines. Since coming off it, my periods have been longer and heavier. This has been for about 4 months now. Apparently, this is a common side effect of this pill. I am healthy and exercise for health and enjoyment. Some peoples comments on here have been uncalled for. I was only asking for advice. I am hoping my metabolism will get back to normal after all the hormones have adjusted etc. I am a vegetarian so I eat carefully and have cut back on carbs. I have brown rice, occasionally brown pasta, couscous. Etc. So trying.0

I'm calling baloney on struggling to eat 1200.
that's just not THAT much food. one small salad- and a portion of meat sauce (no pasta), 3 hard boiled eggs and half a serving of yogurt is 1200 calories.
(I know- because that's what I ate today and I'm FAMISHED).... but really it's just NOT.THAT.MUCH.FOOD.
You need to eat. that's how you get your metabolism doing the things it needs to do. so. eat.
ice cream and peanut butter- win win for everyone in terms of eating and calories.0 -

You can eat healthy until you turn blue in the face, but it means squat in terms of weight loss.
If you are not weighing your food, logging it accurately and consistently, then there's no way you know you are actually eating 1200 calories. Which means, you are probably eating more (calories) than you think you are. This is what you need to fix first. Weigh food, log it everyday, see results. If you're not losing on 1200 calories, regardless of the mini-pill, then you need to see a doctor for further testing.0
