Do you have a favourite quote? One that you live by, or are inspired by, or just a turn of phrase that you enjoy?

Mine is just a line from a song, but it's always caught my eye.

she was sharp as a razor
and soft as a prayer

from a Tom Waits song.

    I've always like this one!

Maturity is a bitter disappointment for which no remedy exists, unless laughter could be said to remedy anything.

That seems forever about to give in

    I like the Irishman's philosophy:

There are only two things to worry about: either you are well or you are sick.

If you are well, nothing to worry about! If you're sick - only two things to worry about: either you will get well or you will die.

If you get well, nothing to worry about! If you die, only two things to worry about: either you will go to heaven or hell.

If you go to heaven, there is nothing to worry about. And if you go to hell, you'll be so busy shaking hands with friends you won't have time to worry!

“Don't be ashamed to weep; 'tis right to grieve. Tears are only water, and flowers, trees, and fruit cannot grow without water. But there must be sunlight also. A wounded heart will heal in time, and when it does, the memory and love of our lost ones is sealed inside to comfort us.” -― Brian Jacques, Taggerung

I found this one after my mom died, and liked it.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

I don't know that I have a favorite, but I like this one, and I just happened to quote it today.

"What would you attempt to do if you knew you could not fail?"
  • The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It's a very mean and nasty place... and I don´t care how tough you are, it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently, if you let it. You, me or nobody, is gonna hit as hard as life. But ain't about how hard you hit... It's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward... how much you can take, and keep moving forward. That´s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you worth, go out and get what you worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hits. And not pointing fingers saying: You ain´t what you wanna be because of him or her or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain´t you! You´re better than that

    Basically any Buffy episode

and I basically just love Restless, so of course:
"I walk. I talk. I shop. I sneeze. I'm gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. There's trees in the desert since you moved out, and I don't sleep on a bed of bones." Which makes no sense, but it's always been one of my favourite quotes in the whole episode, it's an awesome monologue in general.

ETA: if anyone starts pissing you off or gets annoying/b*tchy, just quote Anya forever and always.

"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and all science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed." - Albert Einstein...

Actually, almost any of Albert Einsteins quotes...
