No hope...

I have lost all hope of loosing weight.

I don't know how to stay motivated. I can't get my food addiction in check. I hate myself more and more...

any ideas on how to keep going. I have been on this journey way to long and am not seeing any results...

    I am sorry that you are feeling this way right now. One thing that I started trying when I felt especially down was to write down 5 things that I had done well that week or things about myself that I felt positive about. Doing this helped me change my state of mind from focusing on what I couldn't do or hadn't done to a more positive mindset.

    Also I am not sure if motivational quotes or images help, but I put up motivational quotes and pictures that are great pick me ups (Pinterest has some great examples: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/218635756884225278/). It's alright to feel frustrated, just try to channel it into something positive! Don't give up, you can and will reach your goals!

    Motivation doesn't last, habits do!

    Motivation is what gets you started, but if you don't make sustainable habits you won't be able to fight past the times you lose motivation. Do you need motivation to shower and go to work, or is it just what you do? This is the same thing. You don't have to always be excited or even want to do it, you just have to do it.
  • I literally know how you feel. I plateaued at the beginning of the summer, despite trying very hard to keep it up and it just sent me into an awful depression.

    What really made a difference for me was when I would start to feel upset and frustrated, instead of curling up and crying I put on my shoes and went for an epic walk. Especially in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep. It really helped me clear my head, and after a few weeks I started to notice that I had been angry walking enough that I was seeing results again. I've always heard the quote "A bad day makes a great workout" but I never really believed it until I started doing my angry walks, haha.
    Sometimes we set goals and make plans and when it doesn't all happen as fast as we hoped, it messes us up.

    The last few weeks I haven't counted a single calorie or carb, and have had a few cheat days where I have sat on my couch with peanut butter and a Castle marathon, but I have also gone down another 2 inches in my waist, so it seems that I am more successful when I'm not stressing hardcore over exactly what I eat, and how many reps I do.

    Obviously things vary person to person, but this was my personal experience and what helped me. Maybe some of it will help you as well, and if it doesn't, I hope something does!     I have struggled with food addiction too, and have to be careful not to go to extremes. So I try to be good enough, not perfect. 80% is good enough. 100% is impossible.

    I'm so sorry you are feeling hopeless.

    I have always done great for a week or two then crashed with a 3-day eating binge. This caused me to lose and gain the same 4-5 pounds for a really long time. For me, it turned around when I added friends as part of the MFP experience. It has made me look forward to logging in every day and seeing what everyone is up to. How are they getting their exercise in, what are they eating, etc. Very motivating! My MFP friends have made this a fun journey rather that a stressful one.

    You can't rely on motivation, it comes and goes.

    A few questions to ask yourself:

    Are you making this more difficult by being overly restrictive with too big of a deficit or by restricting foods?
    Are you logging and being honest with yourself?
    Why are you doing this?
    Are you ready to do this?
    Are you trying to be perfect and when you have a not perfect choice do you give up?

    Go for consistent over perfection 80% good choices/ 20% don't worry about.

    ^What everyone above me is telling you, and also, don't beat yourself up. You've lost 20 pounds according to your ticker. There's no time line. You don't have to do this quickly. You don't even have to stick with it 100% until you hit goal. Take it slowly. It's okay to have doubts. It's okay to stop losing for a short time then getting back to it.

    Just breathe and regroup.

    I completely understand what you're feeling. I've been feeling that same way the past few weeks. I have struggled with food addiction for as long as I can remember. I feel like a whole week of doing well can be sabagoged so quickly, it can be very depressing. However, look at your ticker. You CAN lose weight because you already HAVE. I have been reminding myself of this DAILY lately because I've been really struggling. This is how I look at it...I just need to wake up everyday and TRY. Even if I do it all wrong. If I try everyday and screw up 75% of the time, maybe I'll lose 5 pounds by Christmas. Would I like to lose way more than that in that time frame? Absolutely. But I know if I don't try at all, I will be right back where I started in all this. What I've found by at least attempting to make an effort instead of totally throwing in the towel, is that my efforts do count. I am still eating way less than if I wasn't tracking and some days are actually good! There are so many people on here for support. I, along with others I'm sure, aren't pros at this and it's been a lifelong struggle. It is a slow learning process but you obviously can do it. Don't give up. You got this...

    I would tell you take it one day at a time and maybe focus on one aspect at a time (like cutting back on soda, or logging food - even if you are eating poorly)... just take baby-steps until they start to accumulate.
