The below data : read your labels, Fruit Loops vs Raisin Brand is an eye opener. Yes many will have a fit over this, but it is just to show comparisons of these two cereals. It doesn't mean you should buy Fruit Loops over Rasin Brand....

1 cup Kellogs Raisin Bran

Calories: 190
Calories from fat: 15
Sugars: 19 grams
Sodium: 350 mg
Fiber: 7g

1 cup Kellogs Froot Loops

Calories: 110
Calories from fat: 10
Sugars: 12 grams
Sodium: 135 mg
Fiber: >1g

Nutrition percentages of vitamins are almost identical. Raisin Bran has more fiber than Froot Loops, but other than that Froot Loops appears healthier and has much less sugar.

Are you certain? Because I almost think the serving size for Fruit Loops is less than a full cup...

ETA - yep, I checked. Hmm.

What are either one made out of?

How healthy something is for you has nothing to do with the amount of carbs, protein, fat, fiber, sugar, etc. in it.

I am not a fan of Fruit Loops myself, but I do love Raisin Brand. Just thought it was interesting as Fruit Loops brings tons of sugar to mind and it does not have that much. It appears when all those brightly colored boxes of cereal with their cartoon characters on the shelf at the store seem to me , to say-" Hurry hurry, get your sugar coated cereals", lol.

I'm a huge lover of fruit loops but we have cut out artificial dyes in my household so no matter the sugar content, Raisin Bran wins every time.

Any specific reason you're leaving out the Protein and basic vitamins?

Also as kshadows mentioned Fruit Loops serving size is NOT 1 cup, it's: 3/4 cup.

I'm all for reading labels and eating the "less healthy" choice if that's what you're craving and it fits into your own personal dietary guidelines, however I do NOT stand for misleading information skewed to fit your own personal agenda.

    Froot Loops > Raisin Bran
Truth because raisins mixed in food are nasty.

Now you know why I don't buy either any more (well, I never ate Froot Loops anyway but used to love Raisin Bran) now my go to breakfast food is oatmeal, you can dress it up any way you want with berries or fruit, use honey or maple syrup if you want a little more sweetness, a dash of cinnamon etc etc etc

The combinations are almost limitless and, this appeals to my inner cheapskate, it's cheap - much cheaper than any boxed sugar coated cardboard.

My preferred Raisin Brand is Sun-Maid, but only because she's so cute.

Both are 1 cup. Fantastic argument for food scale v. measuring cups. Going by weight rather than volume means: Raisin bran is 34% sugar. Froot Loops are 40% sugar.

I try to follow the 10/10 rule, a good choice for me is a food that has less than 10g of fat and less than 10g of sugar per serving. If it has more than that I tend to not buy it. Next I look at the saturated Fat, if it has more than
3g of saturated fat I also don't buy it. This simple rule helps me weed out bad choices quickly at the store.

I don't like cold cereal at all, so am not personally invested in this, but if you correct to have similar grams (raisin bran packs tighter, I imagine, so there's more in a cup), the numbers look different. I'll pick 50 grams of each.

    50 grams of Froot Loops:

    190 calories
    2 grams of fat
    2 grams of protein
    5 grams of fiber
    17 grams of sugar

    50 grams of Raisin Bran:

    161 calories
    1 gram of fat
    4 grams of protein
    7 grams of fiber
    16 grams of sugar

(I'd expect raisins themselves to contribute both a good amount of fiber and sugar.)

Also fruit, I guess. 19 grams in one medium apple. I had 15 grams this morning in my cherries. Also 3 grams of sat fat in my eggs.
