Thoughts on "cleansing" ?

So for a while now I've been meaning and wanting to do a "cleanse" ; only drinking hot tea and lemon water (just for a day). What are your thoughts on this?

My thoughts are that it is unnecessary. Why do you want to do it?

prize means you may get *many* passionate responses, pro and con. Eat pop corn, sit back, and watch the fireworks.

    (Great gif, BTW)

Is something wrong with your kidneys & liver? If not, don't do it, because they are designed to clean you out.

How will you know when you are sufficiently cleansed?

Here's what I think about cleanses, in particular discussing them on MFP:

    Use the search function.

Do you have a functioning liver, a set of kidneys, a heart free from health concerns and a pulse (that's pushing your blood and oxygen through your body)?

If so, WHY do you feel a "tea cleanse" is important? And at all necessary?

If you're eating crap, lacking energy with a slow metabolism---stop eating crap, replace it with delicious WHOLE foods and ADD a few cups of tea with lemon instead of coffee, juice or soda, as well as getting (at minimum) the daily recommended intake for water.

Our bodies ARE LITERALLY self-cleaning ovens.

If anything, I suggest getting your Thyroid levels checked before doing a "fasting cleanse"...

Just...no. The liver and kidneys work just fine.

The only "cleanse" I would ever recommend to anyone is to stay hydrated and eat one of my stuffed sweet potatoes for dinner. That sucker has an entire day's worth of fiber in a single meal, and the poop aftermath is pretty epic.

    Other than that... no.

You don't need to "cleanse". Your liver and kidneys do that for you, every day, all day. Of course, if you don't have working kidneys or liver... then by all means, do your "cleanse". Hope that works out for you. Though, really, if your kidneys and liver aren't functioning, I don't think tea and lemon water will fix the problem...

    Hear, hear!

OP: since you joined recently, you may not be aware that there are several topics that evoke passionate, but not necessarily equally valid, responses. Those include cleanses, Herbalife, Shakeology, 1200-calorie diets (especially: gaining on them), eating back exercise calories, sabotaging relatives/friends/coworkers, and a few other things I'm forgetting.

It can sometimes seem rude when people respond that you should use the search function, or that this has come up again and again, but it's because people get a little frustrated at seeing the same question over and over.

My personal opinion: there's nothing to cleanse by doing what you do. But some people find that a day of fasting helps them start when they decide to eat at a calorie deficit. It can't harm you.
