Weight loss and diet changes have paid off!!! Doctor just reduced one BP med and eliminated the other. Thank you MyFitnessPal.com and the American Heart Association's DASH diet nutrition recommendations.

This is huge. I went from so obese and dangerously high blood pressure to normal BP and reducing my meds. Once you've made this sort of accomplishment, you feel empowered to make a difference in your life -- anything is possible.

I'm happy that this inspires you. It did me too. In fact, I also have a thyroid problem and my Dr. said the chances of ever getting off that medication are minimal, but she was so impressed with my effort that we discussed how to try to get off that too. Why should I live my life on chemicals when I have the power to change my body? It was this site that inspired me to take control.

That is a true success story. I keep trying to tell my mom that exercise, eating right and weight loss would help out her health problems. I do not want these problems so I am taking action now!!

When I told my doctor what I was doing, she looked at my family history and kind of shook her head. She said, you can do it, but you're going to have to fight your genes. That's fine, since I was tired of fighting my jeans. :)

Way to go! Its my goal to get off my meds. I have pretty borderline BP though with occasional spikes. I just got increased on mine last year to where it was FINALLY actually lowering my BP. I'd like to be completely off it by Christmas with any luck I can drop the dose back down by end of summer and get off the water pill portion I hate that part. I know with a little work when I drop down about 50 lbs it will revert to normal. It has in the past anyhow.

Anyway well done. Keep up the great work.

So inspiring. Thanks very much for sharing. It was actually talking to my doctor about my rising BP that got me started on the weight loss journey. I don't want to end up where my mom is only 20 years sooner. :p

    Keep up the great work!

This one hits close to home. This time last year I weighed 230 lbs and felt physically bad even though I went to the gym 4 or 5 times a week. I ended up going to the doctor and I too was diagnosed with high BP. He told me to change my diet and lose weight and he would see me in a few months. A few months passed and I went back and didn't have much success losing weight or changing my diet.(No sense of urgency on my part I guess). Once he told me I had to go on meds I felt like I was hit by a bus.. I felt I was too young to be on medication. I have 4 young children at home so crazy thoughts like not seeing them grow up quickly race through ones mind. My wife introduced me to this site a few days later and it has truly changed my life. I have lost over 30 pounds and have dropped my BP into the normal range without meds although it seems as it will continue to be an issue since my BP is slightly elevated at times. This just motivates me more to keep losing weight and beat this once and for all. I applaud you on your achievements and wish you continued success on your journey to better health.

Wow!!! That is truly amazing. It just goes to prove that we have the power to save our lives in our hands. You are an inspiration to others who may be in the same situation. Maybe you should appear on Oprah or Dr. Oz.

*blush* Thank you so much for the kind words. Dr. Oz has definitely been an inspiration to me. As have all the people on MFP cheering me along -- like you.
