~* ~* ~* WEDNESDAY QUESTION!!! *~ *~ *~
Q) Do you have any food tips?? Great replacement ideas, combinations, etc.
I use coconut oil to make my egg white omelets and stir fry. It helps keep my cholesterol down.
Plain Greek yogurt with those ranch packages to make my own "healthier version" of ranch dressing.
That ranch idea sounds like a great alternative for veggie dip as well.0 -
~* ~* ~* SUNDAY QUESTION!!! *~ *~ *~
Just thought I'd throw a fun question out there to get us all talking a bit and even get to know another a bit more ...
Q: "When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up? What did you end up being when you grew up?!"
(Answer for me: A musician, specifically a guitar player. I even started off as a music major in College with my guitar and trombone but it didn't last, ended up in IT! ... working for Ford for about 13 years now with a short break between.)
Funny. I play trombone too. I never wanted to be a music major, but now I play trombone in 4 different groups as a very time consuming hobby!
I wanted to be a marine biologist and work with dolphins. I did get a degree in marine biology, but I work with fish instead. They are not nearly as much fun.0 -
~* ~* ~* TUESDAY QUESTION *~ *~ *~
Q) What's your exercise of choice?
In the winter I love snowboarding or cross country skiing, and in the summer I trade off between my road bike and backpacking. Basically I prefer to be outside, but that doesn't happen on weekdays much. Dang job.0 -

Anytime a recipe calls for buttermilk you can substitute with lowfat yogurt. I've never tried it with pancakes, but it works great on homemade bread! Speaking of pancakes, my husband hates syrup, so he uses yogurt and fresh fruit instead. It's pretty addicting.0 -

Lentils. I add a half a cup whenever I make rice, since it takes the same amount of time to cook, and it adds extra protein and fiber.0 -
Married, soon-to-be 34, 3 kids (soon to be 4?) and an awesome wife.
Working hard at working out.0 -
Gotten behind on checking in:
Sunday: Zookeeper (and I actually was for about 5 years before I had kids and stayed home)
Monday: I take a free day every Saturday.
Tuesday: I love to run and play soccer.
Wednesday: I love the spray ranch dressings for salads.0 -
Love the tips! I plan to use a few of them in the short term for sure! With all this change in my diet (which I'm loving by the way) I'm finding out that it took a little time to switch over ... pantry needs to be stocked with better choices, fresher more frequent produce trips, etc. but all worth it ... anyway, thanks for sharing and I'm sure some more will still roll in!
@lizard ... how cool you play too. 4 groups though!? Nice! ... Funny that I grew up playing both guitar and trombone (started taking private lessons with guitar when I was 5 actually) and I always thought of that being my main instrument but my interest in the trombone took over when I started college ... maybe it's cuz there were/are so many guitar players and I liked being different, but when it came to playing blues/jazz the trombone became my first choice0 -
I'm a happily married 30 something, count me in for motivation and support.0

~* ~* ~* THURSDAY QUESTION!!! *~ *~ *~
Q) What is your favorite (or current) craving crusher? ... Perhaps it's that post-work decompression, perhaps it's stress, perhaps it's being tired and not wanting to cook, or even just not having a good selection of food in the house ... whatever the situation those cravings arise, and maybe for some it's soda, for some, sweets, for some stuffed pizza, etc. ... not that occasionally indulging yourself is a problem, and heck, if we burn it off even less of a problem, but do you have anything that you reach for when they start to come on??
A) My wife shared something with me that I have enjoyed lately that really kills my sweet tooth. It does have sugar, but a heck of a lot better than a candy bar. It's cottage cheese and a spoon of raspberry preserves (I love both, but together they're like a treat for me). I think I've talked to several people lately who can't stand cottage cheese so I know that my gross some of you out! lol ... but for me, it works!
How about you?0 -
Greek Yogurt and a drizzle of honey!0

I have a crazy sweet tooth. I would give up all the chips and salty treats in the world for a sweet treat! I had to go cold turkey with the sweets when I started this but have slowly added back in stuff I love. I am a peanut butter-holic and have recently switched to PB2. I mix some up and spread it on some wheat bread and it fills my sweet craving. I also love Fiber One bars... quite yummy and no where near the calories of a candy bar. I eat Luna bars as snacks and drink protein shakes (with PB2) as well. Now... none of these things are the same as a hot chocolate-chip cookie right out the oven... but they do the trick for me for now0 -
Yes, love the fiber one bars! However you made me look up PB2! I had no idea!!!0

Hi- I'll be 33 next month and married for 5 years. No kids yet- we are working on it. Count me in for support and motivation!!! Some days I know I need it0

If a recipe calls for oil, you can replace half or even the whole amount with unsweetened apple sauce.0 -

Whole fruit strawberry popsicles. They have 80 calories and big chunks of strawberries. I also like dark Hershey kisses and I have actually gotten to a place where I can keep a bag in my house without eating them all! I have a little something sweet at the end of most days.0
-
Fresh berries, or a Clif builder bar, it has chocolate crunchy things etc.0
-
I crave salty things so the sweet isnt' much of an issue. When I do have the occassional sweet craving, I just eat something. Since it doesn't happen too often, I'm good there.
Now salt is another issue. I just try not to have snacky salt things around. I get this really good salsa and eat that with a few chips and I am usually good to go. Not too many calories as long as I don't overdo it on the chips. The salsa doesn't have added salt so that's good too.0 -
I have a massive sweet tooth that I'm working on getting under control, so I like granola bars with chocolate chips or a skinny cow ice cream sandwich as a fairly safe treat. I am eating the occasional sugar cookie or piece of chocolate in it's full fat entirety sometimes a little of the real thing is better than a lot of something 'sugar free'.0
-
For me right now I would say the special K 90 calorie bars- chocolate pretzel, and sunflower seeds!0

I love salty crunchy things too....more than sweets. Air popped popcorn with hot sauce and parmesean cheese is my go to snack when I want this. Or a white cheddar rice cake. I can't keep things like triscuits, or any chip like food in my house.0 -
I eat 5 gummi bears, but I suck on them until they dissolve so they last a long time. That usually takes care of my craving for the really bad stuff.0
