Big fat lie. Need encouragement...... calorie burn.....

Ok, I am on day 25 of my 30 Day Shred. Today, I bought a heart rate monitor. Humongous disappointment.
I have been logging the Shred as 20 minutes of Calisthenics, vigorous at 206 calories.
Today, I wore the HRM and it told me that I burned 100 calories.
This is just completely unacceptable. The whole 25 days, and I haven't even burned a pound of fat??? Gah!
Although I will be sticking it out to the end, I can't help but feel very disappointed and unmotivated about it.

I guess I should have posted this in the motivation board, sorry!0

try level 2?0
-
Does the HRM have a chest strap? What kind is it?0
-
Maybe your HRM is calibrated incorrectly. I'd double check the manual and make sure you have it positioned properly. Make sure all your details are correct...age, weight, etc. I seriously doubt you only burned 100 calories unless you "phoned it in" as she calls it!0
-
WOW! I have been logging it as 28 minutes of circuit general which gave me an estimate on MFP of like 345 calories. I'm curious to see the feedback to this as well.0
-
And that's why I quit the 30 day shred after 3 days. I didn't enjoy it, I wasn't burning nearly as many calories as I could burn doing other activities that I enjoyed much much more.0
-
I am on level 3! It kicks my butt, and my heart is racing so that is why I don't understand it.0
-
I don't believe you only burned 100 calories either.0
-
this just doesnt seem right. Make sure the calibrations are right. Ask some other people that weigh about the same as you do what their hrm said.0
-
It wasn't the most expensive one on the market (Oregon Scientific).0

it proably has to do they the hrm it's self0 -
def. check out your HRM....With mine when I do 30DS I burn at least 300.....Mine has a chest strap....check your settings..0

30 Day Shred is known for more toning than calorie burn (I know, doesn't feel like it, does it LOL) so don't be disappointed with the calories burned but just go by your measurements. My best friend is doing this work out and those she's barely lost any pounds, she's lost tons of inches and looks great! I hope this helps!
PS...I wanted a more accurate read on my calorie burn since it's so difficult for me to lose weight (I don't want to be way under to way over) so I bought a HR monitor too. If you have a HR monitor that doesn't have a chest strap (that can measure your HR during exercise) I've been told it's useless without the chest strap. I got mine (it's a Timex) on Amazon for $40. And mine actually shows more calories burned than MFP does on some exercises but less on others?? But I have a heart condition and take meds to lower my HR so it's hard for me to get my HR to max to burn calories.

I had no success with the two HRM I bought - I took both back...unless you are constantly checking your heart rate...it did not seem rigth to me...if you checked it when it was low and forgot to check it again when your HR went up...you got a low overall num...and if you check it when it was high...the opposite...
I have not found one that seemed to be accurate ...I use the equipment at the gym and enter my weight and wore the HRM and it was never close...I got frustrated and took it back...
I also agree with the post that there is no way you only burned 100 calories - I have done that work out and it kicked my butt!!0 -
Hmm I really really hope that is inaccurate as well. I'm on day 7 of the the 30 day shred and have been logging as 26 minutes circuit training. I just don't see how it could only be 100 calories!! Yes it's only 26 minutes but it's a very hard 26 minutes! I can see why you would be discouraged. Keep up the good work anyway though. How do you feel otherwise? And are you seeing any results? If you FEEL better than just keep trucking.0
-
I always put it in as 150 as I suspected that MFP may be counting slightly high. 100 does seem a bit low though. I would check you have it all set up properly and then maybe try comparing cals burned on a few other exercises.0
-
Ok, good point. If you have boobs, where do you put the chest strap? Over the boobs or under them? Would that make a difference?0
-
Now that you have a HRM you will find the things that are really worth "your calories burned time". Dancing burns a lot more calories than the 30 day shred. I have to say I don't do the 30 day Shred daily just here and there and I rarely do level 1. I skip around from level 3 to level 2. Its weird but I think level 3 is easier than level 2 but maybe thats just me.....I also can say that the 30 day shred has really helped me tone up and lose inches. I get bored easily so I like to switch around with my exercises.......Jillian won't step out of the TV and slap you for not doing it 30 days in a row lol.0
-
Yeah I also lost no weight at all doing the shred, lots of inches though, shall be starting again next week, I like it0
-
I forgot to mention that I do find it hard to believe you only burned 100 calories......It must be a non reliable HRM. Sometimes I have to agree with my hubby when he says "ya get what ya pay for". I have learned my lesson over and over again.0
-
I do like the results. I feel stronger and more toned. My clothes are starting to fall off me so I am pretty sure I am losing inches but I didn't want to measure until I was done. It is just that I am trying to stick within my calorie range and this just messed up my last 25 days by logging my calories burned incorrectly. No wonder I am not losing as fast as I would like..... I was attributing it to building muscle.0
-
I didn't have a lot of money to shell out for a fancy hrm so I ended up getting the bowflex fit and I don't think it is accurate at all. I am sending it back. It does not have a chest strap. I don't think you burn a ton of calories from the shred which is why I only do it about once or twice a week. Cardio is always going to be necessary to drop pounds. The shred is more for toning. I log it as circuit training when I do it, not calisthenics.0

If it has a chest strap you should put it under your boobs. Just below your bra and make sure its tight(not to tight). I also have to wet down my electrode area on My polar chest strap.0

I put mine under my boobs like where my bra band is, but under the bra. It has to be against your skin to work best, I believe.
I find the straps to be very uncomfortable, so I rarely break it out, but I burn more than 100 calories doing a low impact walking DVD workout. Something is off with your HRM I think0 -

A chest strap is a MUST with an HRM. I have a Polar and while I haven't done the shred in a while, I KNOW I burned more than 100 calories. Sounds like your HRM is a liar. You do have to remember though, with quality, you get what you pay for.
Also, I have BOOBS... not small ones, either! Haha The chest strap goes under them... basically, I line up my chest strap with the bottom of my sports bra. And yes, it does make a difference where you place the stap.
Good luck!0 -

Under...right underneath the band of your bra.0 -

I have a Polar FT4. Level 2 of 30DS today I burned 294 calories0
-
I'm a guy and I have to put mine under my boobs for now still, too.
By the way, rigorous workouts burn 1000-1200 calories per hour. Even if you back off these estimates a bit, you should still be well over the 100 it was telling you.0
