How many calories does defacation lose?

Weird question? If you gain calories when you consume food, then you must certainly lose calories when you evacuate it as waste. Is there a significant calorie loss for pooping?

That would depend on how full of it you are! :ohwell: You could always weigh yourself before and after if you are that curious.

But seriously. Your body will have absorbed all the nutrients out of the stool. So you aren't losing cals.

You won't lose calories, as mentioned, but you will lose "mass". Your weight can go down up to a few lbs after a BM.

actually when you crap you are crapping the food after it has been stripped of the calories your body absorbs. the calories listed on the nutrition label is (I believe) the amount of calories that will be stripped from the food you eat.

so in reality, you don't crap out calories.

    Lololol. I love this gif!

PS- Aren't all the calories sucked out and all that's left can't be digested? That is what the human gut is supposed to do...

Well, sometimes it takes a lot of work to poo, haha. I would think you're burning some calories at least, haha.

You may not loose calories but you can definitely loose some weight. I was not feeling well yesterday. Not eating much combined with 6 or 8 BMs I lost almost 3 lbs.

I burned 28 calories in 22 minutes from droppin' a deuce. Though, I did get my HR up to 80 [from resting HR of 55] for 2 seconds due to a straining moment. I'd say it's negligible to think about.

    haha Jasper'sMommy!

I was just discussing this the other day with a friend. His contention was that feces can be used as a fuel source, it will burn, therefore, there is energy in it. I had to concede that point. Therefore, Our conclusion was that the calorie counts on foods are approximate anyway, and they likely represent what humans can get out of that food before the waste is removed.

My hubby is a nurse. He once had a female patient (young and thin) who was admitted cuz she hadn't pooped in over a month. He had to manually assist and what ended up coming out was 7+ pounds worth. There was no water left in the toilet after; she had displaced it all! They had to scoop it out into containers (you know the water pitchers they put in your room); it took 3!! He loves telling that story!

I wonder how much is actually lost when your body doesn't have a chance to absorb the nutrients?

I will never drink water in a hospital again.

By the way, I think this little gem is appropriate for this thread. Enjoy!
