I want to stay in the bottom third of the bmi chart's healthy range for my height. Why? Because I have a small frame and bad knees.
  • 10lbs over what I weighed when I got married. I've popped out 5 babies, figured I have to keep 2lbs per kid lol

I think a lot of people need to read this: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/181080-mfp-s-most-common-user-pitfall-to-avoid

Picking a goal weight based off high school weight, or driver’s license stats doesn’t necessarily have any connection to what represents a healthy or reasonable weight for your age and frame.

    I am 35 and 5’3” tall.

My goal weight is to be in the 130’s and/or wear size 6 to 8.

But my real goal is to look like a gymnast or an Olympic hurdler at ANY size and weight. That means a body fat percentage under 20 and large amount of lean muscle mass.

I set it to the highest end of a healthy weight for someone my height, but really I have a range I'd like to get into. I could be 10lbs higher or lower than what my goal is set at, I'm just going to re-evaluate when I get close to that weight. I have a pretty big frame and even when I was in high school and was very healthy and athletic I was considered overweight I just had a lot of muscle and not so much flab, so I'm not going for trying to be super skinny. I just want to get back my curves and muscle tone I had back then or close to it. I'm not really that worried about #'s on the scale, I'm personally more concerned with fitness and getting into shape.

I'm 5'8 and my goal weight is 150. I've always wanted to be curvy and womanly when I lost this weight and I think 150 is still slim yet curvy. I'm assuming once I get to 150 I'll wanna go lower because it seems EVERYONE does it. I saw on the charts though that 150 is the perfect weight for my height.

    5'-10" male
didn't really have a specific number in mind when i started, more of a range.
I am currently at "goal" which is 168-170. This weight range gives me a physique I am happy with.

I am 4'11 (barely) and my goal weight is between 109-115, whereever I start seeing my short stubby thighs start to look leaner. Most of my life I was 98-105lbs so I know that is a little lower than what I want to be since I am no longer a teenager. I want some curves and want to look like a woman, but anything over 115 (which I am above right now) makes me look too round, over weight, and makes me look short and stubby :(

    Goal weights are dumb.

    And why is that exactly??

I am 5'5" and my goal weight is 110. Which is in the underweight zone for me, but, i can't quite come to terms yet that i may not be able to get to that healthily. We will see. I may reevaluate at 125...

5' 5 and goal weight is 110?! Yikes

Pretty easy answer actually. Because weight is a bad measurement for what we're all striving for -- a healthy body that's nice to look at. Weight fluctuates with water weight, stuff in your digestive system, etc. It would be much better to strive for a certain body fat percentage or to strive for certain measurements. But, the fact of the matter is that you could look a whole lot better at 140 versus 130. Ever heard of the terminology "skinny fat"?
  • I'm 5"0. My goal weight is 115. I weigh about 126 now. I think it can be done. But taking off these last 6 lbs to get to my original goal of 120 has proved really hard. I'd like to be there by the summer I hope I can do it. I chose this number because I was about that weight at my wedding 3 years ago. Also my healthy weight is between 94-128 according to my bmi.

Yeah, but there is nothing wrong, or dumb, about shooting for a target range of weight to hit. That would be like saying it is dumb to be shooting to fit into a pair of jeans, or to lower your BMI to a certain number. A goal is to help keep you motivated to do the work to get to that goal

I'm 5'10 and my goal weight was 140 (which I just hit this morning.....booyah!!). I picked that because I weighed somewhere around 130-132 when I got married 11 years ago and while I was very happy with the way I looked then, I know I have a lot more muscle now. Actually my goal is to stay between 140-145# - my doctor told me not to go any lower because being too thin (even at the lower end of the healthy BMI range) is a risk factor for osteoporosis.
  • I'm 5'8" and my goal weight is 145. Any smaller than that on my frame doesn't look healthy. Oh, I can't wait!

I am 5'3 and my weight goal is 120-125 lbs. I am 150 lbs. and I'm always told that its fine and that I'm not big ,but I want to feel good about myself when I look in the mirror.

I am not sure. I am 5'0" and used to feel fat at 109. Well, I had a high body fat that is why.
So this time I'm going to see how it goes, because I am tracking body fat and building muscle, instead of doing the almost anorexic diet and never working out.

Right now I'm going for 125lbs, because it is a healthy weight range for me.
My first mini goal is to lose 20 lbs - that will be put me at 145, and I haven't been that small for at least 6 years. I feel that with my weight training and body fat reduction, I'll look way better at 145 this time around, than last time.

Once I get there, I'll look at losing another 20 which will have me at 125. I expect to look different this time at that weight, but if I still don't like it I'll assess my situation and see what I need to do - another 5-10 after that might be good. I don't think I can go below 115 though, I'm built with a large chest and a bubble booty and those will never go away (but that's cool by me)

I am 5'7" and my GW is anywhere between 140-160. The BMI chart says something closer to 120, but with my frame, and that weight, I honestly look anorexic. I've been that small before, it's wasn't pretty. So I figure I'll go with a higher number, and if I think I can lose more and still look healthy, I will, if not, then that's fine too.

Actually shooting for a number for BMI is pretty dumb, too. BMI is a measure used to evaluate populations and was never intended to look at specific people. BMI has no way of differentiating between "healthy" mass and "unhealthy" mass.

My Goal 130.....Realistic goal to really really shoot for 135-140....I am 5'6" ....I got back down to 125 after my first child...and then I really started enjoying food. But since I have gained I don't feel great......knees hurt...legs drag.....I just wanna be at a happy and healthy weight. According to charts....I can still be a good weight at about 149.....so if I make it to that....then I just might go further.
  • My goal weight is 160. That will be a 61 lbs loss. I will still be overweight but I want to hit 160 and maintain that for 6 months and then try to lose 10 more. I have lost down to under 150 a couple of times and could not maintain it so I want this time to be a realistic, maintable weight that I can live with for the rest of my life.

I'm female, 5'9" and 47 and have had 2 kids. My goal weight originally was 142 but when I have weighed that in the past I always felt like I needed to lose another 7 lbs. so I changed it to 135 which I hit a month ago. Now my goal is to drop body fat % because I still have jiggle and squishy parts on my abs and butt/upper thighs. As long as I stay in the 130's while I add more muscle and tone, I'll be really happy. 135 is the low end of healthy for my height and I actually am happy with how I look right now (but for that jiggle!)

    123-125 maintained

    Why?
Well, back in the day I used to be 122, I think I was 19 years old. I got that weight from 150 I believe. I was pretty small, Wore size 5's.
I'd just like to see what I'd look like again around that weight with the new "woman" body I have now. I feel I am the size now [129] that I was when I was 122, so maybe when Im 123, I'll be firmer! :P

I am 5'5" and my goal weight was 140 ....before kids I was 125 but that was before I had boobs etc....I like my new curves so I choose a weight that was the top end of healthy BMI....once I get there I will re-access the situation because I might need to go a lil lower to get rid of this gut
